I saw something like that screen on a rotational barrel and it self clean and time, you can check it out. I saw it on another RU-vidr, unfortunately I don’t remember who

Quite a few koi keepers in the UK use what are known as drum filters fitted with similar screens but on a much larger scale. They are self cleaning and do an amazing job but unfortunately are very expensive to purchase especially here in Canada if you can even find one for sale. Unlike the UK where they are readily available I know of only one dealer in Canada who sell them. Pricing starts in the $8000 range as opposed to $2500 in the UK.

Hi Ken, those filters are a great bit of kit, and over time, they will require less cleaning as it removes more of the fines. Jobs a goodun 👍

I thought I had clear pond water but the sieve filters proved me wrong. I hope you're right about not needing to clean as often.

Thanks Sid. Spray bar seems to be working well and the fish appear to be enjoying it.

Now this is definitely useful for me Anything to make life easier and enjoy more koi time. Hi Ken. When you coming over to set up filters 😂 Pond temp is warm...wow Koi are looking awesome I need to definitely get some sieve filters but would need to clean every minute or two

Still having to clean every 90 minutes or so to prevent pump starvation but it's amazing how much gunk they're removing from 'clear' (?) water. They'd probably require less frequent cleaning on a pump fed system.

Thanks Vince. They've been a pain in the butt for having to clean multiple times a day but they do remove a lot of fines I didn't know were in the pond.

Had one running for about a week now and cleaning every 3-4 hrs now. Like you not leaving overnight yet although the design doesn’t allow the eazypod to overflow I don’t want to temp it.

Because my Eazy Pods are gravity fed I'm not worried about an overflow but rather a lack of water getting to the pump causing issues and possible damage even though it is connected to a float switch and should shut off if the water level in my pump chamber gets too low. Like you I don't want to temp fate when it comes to my fish.

That’s seems like a lot of work to clean them every hour or so. Why not have another barrel to clean out the fine particulate or have a bog filter to clean them out.

If you don't mind me asking, where are you located? I ask because things like bog filters function differently in the UK for example than here in Canada primarily due to the weather. As for cleaning out the fines before reaching the Eazy Pods due to the limited space in my filter pit it would be difficult to include anything else. The Eazy Pods feed directly from the bottom drain so they pick up everything. My upflow filters capture a lot of fines however they are also feed via the bottom drain after passing through the Eazy Pods. On a more positive note now that I have reduced the flow rate through the filters (and the fact the sieves have been in operation for a while) cleaning of the sieves is only necessary once every 3 1/2 to 4 hours.

I am just north of Toronto. Can you not filter it after those filters? I know you said that the water will flow over those filters if you do go over the required time to clean them but that seems like something that needs constant cleaning in order to work properly. If you do have the time then that’s fine but if you have a nap then the filters won’t really do anything. That’s an amazing filter system you have going there. I just have 3 pressure filters on my pond. Can’t afford those fancy ones plus my 10 tanks inside the house too.
