A Sketch for the Women - SNL 

All the women allowed to take part in this skit must feel so empowered.

When Aidy and Scarlett said 'Thank you for saying that', I felt so empowered, such a powerful touching moment 😢

So great and brave of them to give women's issues a real platform. I did think Aidy and Scarlett talk a little too much in this, though.

As a man who knows many women, I really thought this was powerful. I bet all the women I know think so too. There's no way of knowing if they do, but I think so.

HAHAHAHA! The reference to women as "girls" after mentioning micro-aggressions was hilarious and witty.

Still addresses them as “girls”, while talking about the plight of women. 😅 Subtle details are the best.

this one and last week's sketch of guys at the bar.....so on point.

The part where they ask the ladies to respond, and Scarlett starts to motion like she's going to, and then stops because there's nothing on the cue card always gets me.

SNL is just getting better and better, that was brilliant.

The best part is ScarJo squinting at the prompter like "when's my cue coming...."

Reminds me of news segments on some cable news programs where the topic will be "the black community" and none of the panelist are black. I've seen Fox do this a lot but I've also seen it on CNN and MSNBC.

On behalf of women everywhere, I'd just like to express how empowered they must've felt by this sketch. Thanks Ace and Jake.

About halfway through the sketch, I started to think ‘Huh, when are Aidy and Scarlett gonna say something?’ And then, I got it. Genius.

Wow...just wow. Truly inspiring of Ace and Jake to say that, really cut through the bs. And also so brave and moving for SNL to put aside the comedy and just produce a speech which speaks to us all. So Brave

It's funny 'cause it's true! I once had a male co-worker tell me all about misogyny! Thank goodness he was around. He also likes to tell our co-workers, as a white male, what the nation's race problems are.

I once had a male film "director" gift me with his self published, self authored book. It was all about how men have screwed up women and what women need to do to fix it. He was beyond pathological but his book was a comedic gold mine :D

Yes!!!! This sketch is what I need in my life. It explains women's issues while also showing that women don't really have strong voices or that women get covered up with others voices.

I see a lot of comments about people criticizing other commenters for "not getting it", but no comments from people who didn't seem to get it.

This is why it’s important to be progressive. I wished more women would understand how much I understand their struggles. Too bad they keep trying to talk when I’m trying to let them know that I understand their pain

This is exactly what it's like. It's a weird intellectual understanding but not an in-person visceral awareness of their behaviour.

hysterical! And I don't know if this matters or not... But I am a married 54-year-old woman with FOUR daughters! And we all found it hysterical!!

People are truly missing the whole point here. The joke is not in the skit, the skit is the joke itself (if you can't already tell from the contrived nature of this video). This is not a post of hate, it's just an analysis of all the symbolism of common notions of modern-day sexism: 1. The fact that the men had names but the women are just referred to as "these women" --> no consideration of a woman's individual identity 2. The fact that the men decided to write a speech all about women --> men think they know all that women have been through; in fact, they have never lived as a woman so despite knowing all the facts, they can't truly understand what it's like being a woman. The whole idea of you will never be able to fully step into someone's shoes. 3. The fact that when men talk about the grievances of women, they don't let them speak --> still not respecting what they've got to say, thinking they know better, mansplaining, overpowering women with their speech by taking away their voice and agency 4. Calling them girls --> very demeaning. They are women, not girls. 5. Lorde --> again the whole "men know better" 6. Writing the same line for women --> again removes their individuality, also show the idea of men liking women who agree/praise them/plump their ego ("thank you for saying that"), non-argumentative women, no actual views of their own 7. Disparity in number of lines --> could perhaps reflect men's perception of women's lack of ability + this play purports to be a microcosm of the real world: men dominate this play as they do in the real world 8. Going to the table of women --> jumps into the assumption that all women want to complain about sexism (this is not a particularly strong analysis of mine, just throwing it out there, just feel like it's a bit of the "here we go again, let's hear you whine" kind of attitude 9. The constant glancing at the camera + exaggerated tone of voice --> men's concern as somewhat superficial at times, it's all "for show" (this sketch is super metatheatrical) 10 "They are called micro-aggressions...is that true" --> sounds straight out of "Father knows best" --> men teaching women, men in a more superior, knowledgeable position. 11. Sarcastic tone of voice --> questioning "do they even care" 12. When they talk about women they don't look at them --> kind of hypocritical, not real respect for women, no real concern. Again "it's just for show". Also, men talk is for men, women shouldn't but in (like they are "looking from the outside", and are part of an out-group as opposed to the men's in-group). What do you think? Any more things to add to this list?

Correct me if I’m wrong, but I think the point of this skit is to show that while this is a big issue that women face, oftentimes men get credit recognizing these things. As if being kind to women makes you a better man, when in reality, that’s how a normal person should ALWAYS treat women. Again, this SNL skit kind of went over my head as I was trying to understand better

Yup. It's how women in America are treated. They are told, condescendingly what they should be upset about, instead of just being listened to. (it's how we treat minorities as well...)

It's awesome that the women are up for participating in this kind of humor! And ironically, the female cast members are actually overshadowing their male counterparts in recent seasons of SNL.

So brave of these men to talk out about how pushed down womem are so often. I'm so grateful for these men to be there to support women, and they're so right. Women so often aren't given a voice in society, and that IS bad. Let's thank them for saying that :)

Thank you Beck and Kyle for bringing attention to so many women's issues. But maybe next time, ease up on Aidy and Scarlett's lines. They kind of took away from the moment.

When I was in high school, 10th grade, in 1986 there was a big news story: Barbara Mikulski was the first female Democrat elected a full term to the U.S. Senate. When she was seated, there were a total of two women and 98 men. Now there are 28 women in the Senate. A lot less rare than it was back in my youth.

I didn't realize that there were seven women cast members! Awesome!

Funny subtle touch, the men are named IMMEDIATELY "its so good to see you ACE and JAKE" and neither Aidy or Scarlett character are named or recognised as anything but 'girls' also, the "is that true?" line from Aidy and Scars characters is hilarious when talking about micro aggressions, its that patronising and mindset that women know less as a man on behalf of women, id like to say great sketch
