The most underrated songwriter yhe UK has ever produced. Probably the best though in the modern day. His words mean something to everyone and are so true to life and accompanied by the brilliant music he writes.
Why always people say "underrated" about succesful artists? I mean, you and a lot of individuals are listening to him and his music decades after this and other performances and videos, and his recordings are still on stores, and he was playing at Jimmy Fallon's the other day,and you dare to call him underrated? C'mon,be less childish and a little More serious about other person's carreers. Not only #1s and tops mean success... The simple act of you and i enjoy his music, becomes him everything but underrated,i hate that word,i wrote it three times in this post of yours.
@sergioaraya681 of course he's underrated. If he wasn't he'd be a household name among songwriters which he obviously isn't. It's only a few thousand of us that recognise him as being a brilliant song writer, therefore underrated
I am a refugee from war torn Laos, came to US, Texas country hick town, caught Joe’s music randomly and his music has defined coming of age for me learning to speak English in the 80s and 90s. He integrated instruments and his haunting vocal that only worldly travelers could appreciate with the Latin percussions, brasses, and arrangements.
I know the Country of Laos, my friend. I saw this Rockpalast live on TV back then. I lived in the GDR, East Germany. Must have been 40 Years ago. Still a fan.
I remember reading the liner notes of his live album back in maybe 85 talking about how a young lady had burst into tears at the climax of that song. I just did too..amazing.
Hearing this song for the fifteen time today... I was in the virtual world of Second Life this morning, when one of the musicians covered this... First time to hear it I am enthralled.... and can't get enough Thank you for placing this choice selection on RU-vid I am blessed, today !!
Damals Gänsehaut und heute noch immer. One of the best.If you love Joe Jackson, this is the song. The performance, the rockpalast was the beginning.Graham Maby ist the one i ever want to groove with. Best Bassplayer to me.
Reminds me of when I lived in The Hague in the Netherlands from 1981 to 1993. It was a good time. This album was big when I first got there. Still love it - even if I'm only a couple of years younger than Joe Jackson.
Joe has a superb band, Graham on bassgitar is one of the best and the drums are great. People like to play with him. Listening to them is still worth it.
never paid him much mind, I knew he was a good songwriter,I had Body and Soul on vinyl, but it didn't really move me the One time I played it. So, Steppin' Out was really the only thing I could say i was familar with...Until last week, i found "Look Sharp" and "Night and Day" on used CD's ($3 each at the goodwill). Put on Look Sharp when I got home and was immeditely happily surprised by the driving Guitar and Bass of "One More Time" and it only got better from there. I've been playing those records everyday, multiple times and can't get enough.
LYRICS Music has charms they say But in some people's hands It becomes a savage beast Can't they control it Why don't they hold it back You see my friend and me Don't have an easy day And at night we dance not fight We need the energy If not the sympathy But I'm brutalized by bass And terrorized by treble I'm open to change my mood but I always get caught in the middle And I get tired of DJ's Why's it always what he plays I'm gonna push right through I'm gonna tell him to, tell him to Play us, play us a slow song Play us a slow song Play us a slow song Play us a slow song It's late, I'm winding down Am I the only one To want a strong and silent sound To pick me up and undress me Lay me down and caress me I feel you touch my hand And whisper in my ear Ask me how I'm feeling now And I want to get near you But I can't even hear you But this is a fine romance If we have to be so demanding We need just one more dance to Leave here with an understanding And I get tired of DJ's Why's it always what he plays I'm gonna push right through I'm gonna tell him too, tell him to Play us, play us a slow song Play us a slow song Play us a slow song Play us a slow song I get tired of DJ's Why's it always what he plays I'm gonna push right through I'm gonna tell him too, tell him to Play us, play, play, play Play us a, play us, play us Play us a slow song Play us a slow song Play us a slow song Play us a slow song Songwriters: Joe Jackson
I don't think that Joe Jackson is given nearly enough credit for being one of the greatest composers/singers/songwriters/performers of the late 20th century. FFS he's not even in the Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Fame!
This is a Special Song for My husband and Me! We are both avid fans of Your Musical Wizardry! We dance to this Song and plan to renew Our Vows and they will play "A Slow Song" for this Special Occasion! CHEERS...
Such a talented composer, arranger, performer, musician, & lyricist; yet, so under appreciated, unconventional, alternative, & novel JUST FOR BEING a bit CLASSICAL & a bit retro. /// /// Okay, his music does not exude a strong dance beat, & super sexy music videos.
