My college major was perfect and would have been perfect for you with your interests. It was more than 50 years ago (!) but Home Economics included emphases in nutrition, interior design, child development, home management, textiles and fashion design. We had to master hands-on sewing, all the way from pattern drafting to tailoring. Such a shame that home economics has been split up into specific disciplines instead of a BA that explores how to live well and take care of the people you love. It was the perfect major for my career (30+ years as a designer for my first career) and my life as a wife and mother.
I love your husband's response to the question about leaving the city and also your response to your career and choices surrounding that. It is so enjoyable watching your home come together organically. Today there is so much instant gratification in huge room makeover videos and for most people it's not realistic financially or time wise to decorate in that way. I have a slightly different style than you but use the same processes as you, (utilizing FB marketplace etc) and I truly draw so much inspiration from your videos. Keep up the good work!🩷
🎉 I’m from NYC and while it was lovely that you were in the city, I was extremely happy you were moving back to North Carolina and purchased this beautiful house. You all got to experience the busy fast pace of our big apple. I definitely did not see it as you both going backwards. Your camera/phone microphone works very well. I was able to hear your husband clearly. Especially the sounds of the beautiful birds singing.🎶 I love seeing the family together on the porch eating. Brooks is just too adorable. My massage therapist told me, my black bags under my eyes are either too much or too little sleep. I was getting too much sleep and have cut back and am seeing a reduction and an improvement. Your home is so warm and cosy, you seem more a home property type than a NYC life style type. You wear it well... and NOTHING BEATS FAMILY. Thank you for sharing it all with us. I do see that many people in NYC do live stuck there because it's the Big Apple! When I was young I use to look at home magazines and wonder where all these big beautiful houses are with wonderful gardens and found out that these are home from throughout the USA. People get scared to explore beyond the big city thinking that they are going to miss on something in life. But everyone needs to explore the amazing country and find their dream life. It is worth it. I am an artist, and like you, I love decorating my home. Thank you for sharing some Q & A. Look forward to the nursery. 🙂
I totally agree with that one q&a answer you guys were talking about. I also moved from a city area to a more suburb area and it has been so wonderful! Also our 4 year old has a wonderful school he goes to now, and everything feels a little less hectic than the busier city area we lived in. We have all been enjoying our new stage of life here. More and different experiences to embrace.

I agree with TJ about seasons of your life. My daughter lives in NYC and I see the struggle of living in a small space. She also loves walking everywhere and enjoys what the city has to offer. NYC has a lot to offer but it is very expensive! I would love to live there if I was wealthy! I do think you made the right choice for your family!

I almost forgot how my allergies were so much worse when I stayed with my family in Durham. Also, my hair was always so frizzy from the humidity. I have a friend in Cary and she said she hasn't had a decent hair day since moving there. My aunt and uncle had a St. Bernard and we would have to clean her feet so she wouldn't track the red clay dirt into the house. I really loved N.C. nonetheless. I think your going about decorating the house in the right way and taking your time is smart. I also think that whether you live in the city or the country we often don't take advantage of the area we live in and explore to find hidden gems. There are many places throughout NYC ( all 5 borough's) that I've never seen and I've lived here my whole life. Your husband is right about a person can be stagnant anywhere. You guys are definitely flourishing and that's wonderful.

Your home is lovely. I too, spend twice a day sweeping my porch and deck. I live an hour east of Raleigh. I am SO READY for the pollen to be DONE! Croissants look delicious. We will definitely try them the next time we are in Raleigh! Our oldest son attended State! GO WOLFPACK!

We made all of our decisions about where to go after my husband graduated from NCState (!) based on distance from grandparents for our kids. I wouldn't take anything for that! And Brooks has that here! Yay!

Just wanted to tell you thank you for an idea you gave me. The 11 ? Days before you left NY you had pulled a string out of a bag? Or stocking? Not forsure what but you would go somewhere every day. I love that idea. My grand children had to adjust to a divorce and they look so forward to coming home. I babysit them while theor mom works. It has been very hard on them. So i am looking forward to them coming home and all week whether they are here or at mamas we are gonna do something each day they are here. They leave on the next Sunday. This is gonna be fun. Thank you so much. We are letting each one pick an adventure or fun thing at home. Thank you they love surprises. They always run down the hall to see if we have a surprise in their bedrooms. Yours look like an off white or cream (at least on my phone). Their color / hue looks similar to mine & i have literally been struggling to find/decide on a white color for my walls! I am thinking I want a WHITE (true white) with a rich, fresh , cozy, warm for these cold gray Indiana winters!) and airy for summertime. Thank you so much for answering my question! I asked if you ever felt like you were going backwards. I’ve lived in LA for almost 10 years now and we have a one and a half year old with zero family around. I feel so torn because going back to our hometown on the east coast would make since for family help but I feel like the area doesn’t fulfill me the way it does being on the west coast. I’ve looked in so many states surrounding it and it’s either stay here or move back home. It’s such a hard feeling. I’ve worked so hard for my career and feel the need to be here but family wise it feel like it doesn’t make sense to be here 😅 Appreciate hearing your and TJ’s advice it helps me not feel so alone in these adulting decisions.
Ahh that is so tough! I can understand the feeling of being unfulfilled and that is exactly how I thought it would be if we left New York. I think what we found is that you get fulfilled in a different way if you make a change. At least that’s what happened to us. Your move would be A LOT bigger than ours was though.

If you have an unclaimed baggage store there, you can find lots of cool stuff people left on airplanes. Not for furniture but for electronics and clothes. Estate sales and auctions are great for all types of stuff at a bargain.
Love your house and your content! The rattan/wicker chairs look like they are the Ikea ones, Agen... have them myself. Love them. Had them for years. Quite affordable if you want to get more and can’t find old, used ones. No, looked again... but similar! :)
