9 Crimes by Damian Rice and Lisa Hannigan // Robin Hood BBC.
Guy/Marian/Robin/Isabella
LOOOOOONG explanation so I hope you bare with me:
Few changes; Robin and Marians betrothal was a childhood thing which didnt last very long, Robin went to the crusades and when he returned England was still hunky-dory so he's not been outlawed. Guy isnt as sadistic as usual.
(My dearest Marian)
("It's time for us to both grow up") In an act of maturity, Marian decides to marry Guy of Gisborne which leaves childhood friend, Robin, hurt and upset ("you're marrying him." "I am marrying him.") However the marriage doesnt last long and it skips ahead to Marian telling Guy their marriage is over ("I love Robin Hood") With Little John, Marian takes off her wedding ring as memories consume her...
Guy proposed ("marry me") and Marian accepted, unaware that Robin loved her for years, the pain is too much for Robin and he bitterly doesnt attend the wedding, to Marians frustration as she's constantly thinking of him. Despite her distaste at being ("the Lady Gisborne") and her doubts, she still turns Robin away when he finally makes contact which hurts them both and Robin decides he should leave Nottinghamshire for a while, to which Much openly blames Marian ("in the Holy Land my master had dreams, he spoke your name"). Robin meets a new woman who reminds him of Marian in looks; porcelain skin, dark, curling hair ("Robin Hood," "Isabella") and, finding out she's Gisborn'es sister, takes her back to Nottingham to flaunt her. Guy, despite frustrated, doesn't interfere and, quietly blaming Robin, takes him to see Marian who is bedbound and wrought with illness since Robin's departure. Robin is torn between the fun with Isabella and his concern and love for Marian, his and Isabella's relationship makes Marian worse and Guy comforts her although she denies any romantic feelings ("I know you were once betrothed to Robin Hood," "I was a girl then") Robin begins to spend less time with Isabella and more at Marian's bedside where she regains her strength, however she's left feeling guilty when alone with Isabella as she feels her and Robin's relationship is conflicting with her duties to step aside as Isabella's sister-in-law. Robin calls upon Marian by use of an arrow and they begin a secret courting, the lovers are almost caught one night by Gisborne however Marian bars the door whilst Robin makes a hasty escape. Unable to resist Isabella's charms, Robin falls into her arms, unaware that a distraught Marian is watching and they argue before Robin promises he's only ever loved her and they agree to leave Nottingham.
With Marians words to Guy ringing in her head ("I love Robin Hood"), Marian packs her things to leave unaware that Robin is alone is the forest and has become aware of an assassin who is intent on killing him to avenge his brothers death. Robin composes a letter to Marian saying goodbye before Carter finally corners the unarmed Robin and runs him through and whilst dying Robin reaches out for Marian. ("I fear we may not meet again, in this life.") Robin's body is taken back to Nottingham and Guy receives it ("I am truly sorry") before sending for Marian whose distraught and demands answers from Guy as Isabella looks on helplessly, unable to claim she truly loved Robin like Marian did. ("Wake up, wake up! Please!") ("What happened!? What happened, tell me what happened!? Tell me!" "There were no witnesses!" "Dont you touch me! Dont touch me!") ("For the life, for the love we could not have, I only hope you remember me well.") Marian finds a friendship in Robins friend Little John and he, as well as the gang, help Marian through her pregnancy and childbirth where she names her son after his father ("Robin") before watching him grow into a child which resembled the young Robin she once knew. ("I'll see you in Heaven Goodbye my love.")
