Questionable water sources and a dangerous cliffside tent setup were just some of the precarious things that were part of my final backcountry trip of the season. The “crisis” part of the story-although very worrisome-was a great learning experience as to why you should ALWAYS keep your pets on a leash.

Despite the trip being cut short due to the “crisis” (thankfully, everything turned out ok!) it was still one of my favourite trips of the 2023 season. The fall colours, the moon, the stars… the overall scenery was outstanding. I kept wondering if it was real life or if I was living inside a painting. It sure felt surreal.

Glad to hear Elo is ok! Looked like you got to see some peak colours on this trip and the battery tip, albeit very simple, is a great idea.

Thanks! I didn't know this until I got back, but my third day was the official 'peak' of fall colours announced by the park. I used to use small sticky notes to identify empty batteries, but the stickies kept falling off, one day I had an "aha!" moment and thought about the rubber bands lol

Awesome videos Cody! Subscribed 😃 I've told so many people about running into you while you were on this trip. I agree on the scenery, Big Porcupine became one of my favourite lakes in the park, and the weather was probably the best you could ever ask for. Was also happy to hear Elo was okay! Keep it up dude, fun to watch your content evolve. Cheers! Julian

I’m glad in summary that the pup was fine, I’m sure they get into worse drinking from city puddles. You’ve always struck me as a stickler for rules so I’m surprised you allow your dog off leash in the park

I'll only let her off-leash occasionally when I get to my campsite; I have a much stronger opinion about keeping dogs leashed while on the trails and parking lots where you may bump into other humans/pets. But this trip was a good reminder why the leash rules exist in general (part of why I'm sharing the story is so that other people can learn from my mistake) and this trip was a wakeup call for me as well and I'm going to be much more restrictive about letting her off-leash even at the campsite. Site note, but related. The next video I'm releasing (took place before this trip) we camped at the same island twice on the same trip. A different group stayed at the site between my two visits and left the campsite FILTHY. Food scraps everywhere. I even found Tylenol pills on the ground. It was also a big reminder that no matter how well trained your own pup is, you can't control other people. You can scout a campsite's cleanliness when you arrive, but something as small as a Tylenol pill will easily get missed.
