I planted a few bushes years ago and they never grew much. When I finally dug them up they were basically still in the root ball. Some of the landscapers tell you the netting will disintegrate but I say NO. The least you can do is cut most of the burlap away... Good Luck!
@staceyschmidt3149
@staceyschmidt3149 10 месяцев назад
Hopefully they have something far more degradable in France/Europe! Because I agree with you- in the USA option, if you don't remove that stuff at least partway, in my experience, you'll end up with a root ball that grows nowhere, and a tree/bush that languishes.

Same. Those apple trees are too nice to not take the time to properly plant them. And the reasoning being, "if I take it out of the bag, I'd have to make sure there were no air pockets around the root ball" is disappointing. How difficult is it to properly plant and water-in a handful of trees? But maybe it won't matter if they aren't rooted strong since they will be trellised. Fingers crossed!

The walled garden is coming along nicely, just as a point as a professional garden designer and gardener in France and Germany, the rule of leaving on the wire and burlap on trees when planting is an outdated one, it is definitely now days recommended to remove both as they hinder the root development, which is so needed here in France with these strong winds we get. Also with any bare rooted stock (Yew) roots should be placed in water before planting to rehydrate them, I just hope they got a good soaking once planted. Happy Gardening

Perhaps there are some climates in which the cages around the roots degrade before root girdling occurs, but it's usually best to remove them. I lost a huge tree because a cage wasn't removed and we get plenty of rain and snow.
@willowdagato4494
@willowdagato4494 10 месяцев назад
I've seen a 5 year old tree blow over in Louisiana, and the burlap and wire cage were still completely solid. If burlap doesn't rot quickly in Louisiana soil... it's restricting plants roots a lot longer than people think. The worst part is, the excuse for not removing it was soooo weak. Air pockets around the roots? Just take a few minutes to plant the tree properly and water it in good. Easy!

We have gophers where we live. When we landscaped we put every plant into wire cages called gopher cages. To a plant they didn’t thrive. We ended up having to dig down the sides of the trees and cut the wire as best we could so that the roots could actually grow. They’re recovering now but they’re not settled enough in the earth and are too wobbly because they weren’t able to send roots out. Never again.

Hello Stephanie! Have you decided to not do the Christmas diaries this year? No worries if that’s the case. Something I’ve been looking forward to but we’ve got 4 years of older videos to rewatch to make up for it! Just watched a few from 2019 and 2020. It really just takes me back! You’ve really influenced so much of how I celebrate Christmas. Reflecting on it now, over the past 4 years, I’ve built up my own collection of Christmas decor including a silver artificial tree, have tried out so many of your recipes (including the turkey roulade!), prepared Christmas crackers for a family holiday dinner, bought my very own advent calendar from La Samaritaine department store in Paris (inspired by the Liberty one you had years ago), and even made bath bombs - although I didn’t attempt to put a duck in mine. I’m sure there are countless other things I’ve learned from you too - not to mention the historic tid bits you used to add here and there to the older videos! Sure do miss seeing Michael Petherick and you joke around in the vlogs and hope he is well! Sending holiday cheer to Lalande from Geneva.🎄✨

This time of the year I'm warming my mincepies in the the airfryer .when you haven't got a house full of people it's a great economical way to cook Marie said it was for people who like fried food but it's just a small air oven and if you do like friid food it's a heathier way of cooking.
