I'm considering college in Alaska, but I'm from the midwest. The outdoors and uniqueness of it all seems really appealing, but do you think it'd work out? Dunno if you'll see this, but I'd love to see a reply. Thanks x

Are you thinking about UAF, UAA, or UAS? Each are quite a different experience. I go to fairbanks. It's the bigger school (10,000). It's also the darkest and coldest for a couple months during the year. Though we also get some awesome auroras. UAA is in anchorage and that's more a city college. Anchorage doesn't get nearly as cold and you have the mountains 5 mins away for hiking. Then southeast which right on the ocean. So I guess to try and answer your question... it comes down to if ya can put up with dark and cold then you'll do great and if ya like the outdoors you'll love it!

This is such a trip for me. My dad taught at UAF for six years of my childhood so seeing footage of a campus I grew up running around is... bizarre. The memories, man. But also seeing it from the perspective of a college kid MY age now and comparing it to my perspective as a 9 year old is wack? I’ll never forget getting my head ass self stuck in a campus elevator.

my mom went to college there, and i remember running around in the giant room there waiting for her to be done with her classes when i was like 10🥴 (idk if we were allowed to do that but we did anyways lol)

My aunt goes there and my family’s all from Alaska (my mom grew up there) I spent part of my life there up until about 5 years ago and then I moved to Florida lol

I’ve really been considering going to college in Alaska. I’ve always loved the outdoors, and the beauty and freedom of the state has always captivated me. I want to study something regarding animals and wildlife - so Alaska being a very “wild” place I think the school would be a good fit. Is it difficult to get in?

I don’t live there yet... but as long as you get there in the spring or summer it shouldn’t end up being to hard just border control and the seasonly closed highways in the Yukon

Fall '98 to Spring '04 Chemistry. Bartlett Hall 12th floor back right corner apt. I was lucky in that I was on the Honors floor and could buy a 2-up apartment for a single person. It was very nice. The Fine Arts building was the only one I never entered as I spent most of my time up on the Hill. Wonderful school and I'll never forget the five terrifying years I spent there.

UAF is my dream school to attend Grad school. I hope I can get into and hopefully get my Masters in Environmental Chemistry and Math. I live in Central NY, will I get used to the cold if I come here?
