I always thought of the trombone as a wild crazy jazz instrument. This is another beautiful side like imagining angels floating down with royal grapes or cupids bouncing on fluffy clouds. So cool!

As a trombonist, I definitely feel we are the most slept on and underappreciated instruments in the band. :)

Jon, I totally know what you mean! For sure the trombone CAN be a wild and crazy jazz instrument, but it can also have a softer side 😉I love your imagery, that made me smile. I will think of those images the next time I play this haha!

@@timothydrummond3097 RIGHT?! We are the underdogs! But the trombone is so cool and can can do so many things! It can also be a great solo instrument. I am trying to spread the word!

@@LisaLizTrombone let me know when you remake the song and are thinking of angels and cupids while laughing and playing at the same time. You must must have a heck of an embouchure to laugh and play simultaneously ;)

すごいですね! As a Japan-o-phile and trombone-o-phile...gotta love this. Couple of years ago I was living for a while in #kyoto - guess what kind of music is playing in Almost Every Shop? (really!). Supermarkets, antique shopsm, coffee shops (natch), book shops etc. Cool Jazz. Blues. Pentatonic scale stuff. Coltrane, Chet Baker, Stan Getz, Bruebeck, Miles Davis etc. And now... guess what scale the traditional Bamboo Shakuhachi plays on? Yup... you guessed right. The minor pentatonic. (which I also play). Check out John Kaizan (Bamboo). My fave piece is Sentimental Over You. What else!!? If you find a moment... I have a question/favour/request... What slide positions are used to make the "turn" in Bar 3 ? in this YT video - "Minor Blues - J.J. Johnson Transcription" ありがとうございます

And here is a cool dude I met when cycling along the bank of the Kamogawa (River) in Kyoto - practicing away on a sunny autumn's day. photos.app.goo.gl/npk4VQNzNBtgFFP57 I hadn't played for years.... "Can I play a song?" I asked. "Sure" - he replied. And so I played Sentimental Over You. Big Smiles! #kyoto has to be on ANYBODY's bucket list. You have the orange "Tori gates" of Fushimi Inari in the background of this video. And the bamboo forest at Arashiyama, too. Both in Kyoto. You start with Big Buddha in Kamakura.

Wow, such a lovely song as a trombone solo! I like the way you did the video transitioning from moonlight to daylight with flowers! I used to like a trombone solo arrangement of Air on the G String but now that I heard this, it’s so much better!

Greate video. Shortly I discovered my old trombone in the house of my parents and after some investments in slide cream and oil it was usable again. But it doesn't sound like your trombone. Hmm, I am still investigating where the difference comes from. Maybe it is the slide cream, the mouthpiece, or is it the person who is playing. Currently, I suspect the player. I will start practice more. I hope the neighbors will not be disturbed too much.

Thanks Lisa for this video. Many times I watch the news when listening to trombone videos but I had to watch your video this time. We played this piece several years ago in our trombone choir and I was unimpressed but this video changes my mind to the positive including the background at the end. Love the solo version.

Hello Lisa, I love A Song for Japan,
@jr7982

Hello Lisa, Really enjoying your videos, thanks for them. You make your high range half step videos look completely tension free. They are very encouraging for this well seasoned weekend warrior. It appears that your embouchure is a bit off center, with your right side being almost completely in the rim. Is this just by trial and error or was it taught that way? Again thanks for all the video tips
@LisaLizTrombone
@LisaLizTrombone 3 года назад
Hi J R, I am glad you are enjoying the videos, that's why I make them 😊 Yes, my embouchure is off center. Believe it or not, when I put the horn up to my face, that feels like it's in the center for me! When I look in the mirror and actually place this in the center, it feels very strange and uncomfortable. I taught myself how to play the trombone, so I have used this embouchure from the very beginning, it is just what's most comfortable for me. Also, I think it has something to do with not being able to reach 7th position very well. My embouchure has moved father to the right so I can reach out that far - just an observation.
