Note that the Brodie helmet was the standard helmet of the British Forces from 1916 until 1944 when they gradually started changing to the Mk III "turtle" helmet (not completed until the late 1950's). It was also the standard helmet of the US Forces from 1917 until 1942. Very similar timeframe.

They actually provided more protection (against overhead airbursts) to troops in trenches than the German helmet. Visibility and hearing were also less resricted.
@@tomgoff7887 ........and they didn't capture the sound of weapons being fired (thus deafening the user). And hearing is an important sense for survival on the battlefield. They weakness was the chin strap which was useless in securing the helmet to the head. Activities like running, jumping or going to ground had the helmet sliding backwards or forwards or falling off.
