A "Spirit Filled" Church Service Versus Correct Teaching & Divine Service

Brilliant!! I have found the most Spirit-filled moments are when I quietly kneel before the altar for Holy Communion, where Christ comes to me, a sinner saved by His grace.

You do not have to choose between Sacraments, the Word and the Charisms of the Spirit as many Worldwide Lutherans have learned and the fast- shrinking LCMS may learn from them. In the NT St Paul give orientation on how to integrate the charismatic manifestations in the public worship. To suppress that means to go against the clear teachings of the NT.You can have a Lutheran worship and be Spirit- Filled.

0:45 Teaching through the book of Acts is so helpful for my congregation. You never find “Spirit-filled” people and good works, or witness and evangelism divorced from “doctrine”. Viceversa as well! No divorcing the doctrine from the Spirit. The apostolic witness gave life to doctrine because the Spirit drove them to confess it. Thanks guys!

“For God is Spirit, so those who worship him must worship in spirit and in truth.” - John 4:24 To be in a spirit filled church is to be in a church that rightfully divides God’s word. The spirit filled idea comes from puffed up Pentecostals/charismatics overdosed on emotionalism and lacking biblical theology Reformists might lack emphasis on the gifts of the spirit but it heightens the objective truth and knowledge of the scriptures I’m apart of a Presbyterian church where confessions and sacraments are highly emphasized!!

Read "Confession" from the Smalcald Articles on this where Luther deals with enthusiasm (schwaermerei) - also Augsburg Confession Article V. There is a union between the Word and the Spirit (see John 14-16).

I'm born and raised Lutheran. My husband is born and raised UPC. Long story. But I feel like he needs to get jazzed up at church. I went a couple times and found it disorderly, confusing, and scary. I love being Lutheran because my church has the peace of God. It's not just something we say to each other, it's real. That's one thing I need to feel. He needs to be pumped up, I need peace.

Not at all a spirit filled church is a church that has pentecostal roots. Which means holiness traditon (strong emphasis on sanctification), understanding and practice of the gifts of the spirit, premill urgency, and focus on evangelism. Music is secondary.
