HOW I REVIEW:
As you might know from my „How I make a buying decision“ video: Rather than just looking at the pros, I like to evaluate the cons or flaws of an item and then evaluate if I can live with them. That is why in my video reviews I concentrate more on the cons of an item rather than going over all the features. Therefore everything shown is just a fraction of all the points that go into the verdict and score of an item.
DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A QUICKLOOK AND A REVIEW:
A Quicklook usually covers pre-production units or items that I only used for a short period of time. While Reviews cover final items that I have reviewed intensively.
AFFILIATE LINKS:
No matter if I like or dislike a product, I want to make it easy for you to check out the product yourself. Therefore I include a link of the productpage. If marked with a star *, that link is an affiliate link, meaning if you buy the product via the link you DO NOT pay more, but you will support the channel.

This company doesn’t have very good customer service. I ordered one and saw the pictures include 2 handles so when I received it and it had one handle, I contacted the company. They acknowledged that it was a mistake in the picture and updated the picture but all they would do to fix the issue was offer 25% off the extra handle which is effectively $5 off. Shipping and customs will cost more than they are offering. Sad about the service but hopefully the product will be good.

The CTB26 looks the most suitable for me, but I would also add a must have for all backpacks and that is the ability to stand upright without having to lean on a kettle bell. Or against an office desk. My older Osprey Radial 26 has this so-called kickstand and it is a godsent.

A lot of the viewers mention this as a requirement for their bags. For me personally it's not that important, but I can see why you might need this feature

I'm a fairly decent sized dude (Tinder 6ft., 200lbs) and I find the CTB26 a great personal item travel bag but too big for EDC. If Evergoods ever made a 20-22L version of that bag it would probably be my unicorn EDC backpack.

In your opinion, would you use a flat water bottle like memo bottle? Or any water bottle internally is a no no?@@Andorski
@Andorski
@Andorski 5 месяцев назад
@@SubsequentEloquent I always use a double walled insulated water bottle because I like my water as cold as the iceberg that sank the Titanic. So I'm okay with storing water bottles internally (in it's own pocket; not just in the main compartment with all my other stuff), but I wouldn't prefer using a memo bottle.

Got the ctb26 phoenix 2 which is basically just an xpac version with orange interior and aqua guard zippers. It’s fantastic. I do wish it were 28 or even 30l to better suit traveling, hope evergoods makes an xpac version of the ctb35 without the hip belt and even without the hydration bladder provision.

Nice bags. The straps do come in handy, if you are out on one of those days where its cold, warm, wet, hot all in one day you can take your layers off and roll them up and stash them under the straps and get to it easily when the weather changes again. I don;t think I could be stealhy anymore my daily backpack (for now) is a Dalkine Campus 25L in Tropical Dream its the total opposite of a black bag, but I seem to blend in when I'm out doing errands and commuting to work. I'm not very steatlhy myself I got blue and purple dyed hair🤣

As a fellow motorcycle rider and commuter with it, I would suggest a look at kriega. The tailbags is what I used as a backpack on a motorcycle made me uncomfortable. I have read too many stories on advrider of what can happen in a fall when wearing one. Going from snagging and causing injury to the items in there causing back damage. Those kriega tailbags are waterproof af and durable. Mine spent 15k a year there and is still fine years in and keeps everything dry for sure.
@Youknowthebo
@Youknowthebo 7 месяцев назад
Very valid point. But on my MT07 I don't have that much space. I get the safety concerns, but I probably will stick to backpacks for now. But Kriega bags are awesome

Do you have any one off video with budget alternatives?? I am sure we would appreciate seeing what's out there and your opinion as to why it may not be the best option in regards to backpack and edc
@Youknowthebo
@Youknowthebo 7 месяцев назад
In general this is a good idea. But due to my time and budget limits I decided to only cover those bags that are much more difficult to take a look at for consumers because they usually are only available online. Most cheaper bags are either easily available in local stores and therefore good to check out for yourself or they arent that expensive so the expenses wouldn't hurt too much. That is why I rather review bags that most of us can't check out first before buying and therefore you benefit more if I reviewed them. That being said, I might do a roundup "opinion" video of cheaper Bags in the future. Thanks for the idea and inspiration

Loved the shadow (error) CTB35 that I got for a song at $199. It's such an amazing bag that I quickly retired my GR2s. These days I'm loving how I can EDC and light travel with the new CTB26 in OD green.

Thanks for your video! I used the Evergoods CPL 24 V3 for a one week trip to Yogyakarta and surroundings. What I most like about this bag are the comfort, back panel, and organization. The downside is, it's on the heavier side. When I need more space for travel, I grab my Goruck GR1 Workshop 26L. The Black Ember R3 18L is currently on my wish list . Do you know if the material can withstand torrential downpour?
@Youknowthebo
@Youknowthebo 7 месяцев назад
Cool. It's been a very long time since I have been in yogjakarta. Would love to visit again in the future. Is your question about the blackember? The blackember is pretty weatherproof. In Hamburg rain it works quite well. But Indonesian downpours are a completely different beast. I am truthfully not sure if any bag can withstand a monsum rain over longer periods of time. Just to be clear most weatherproof bags can withstand rain quite well, but from my experience the rain in Indonesia is much stronger. Also time of exposure is also important. If you are an hour walking in rain, water will get into any bag eventually
@errydm
@errydm 7 месяцев назад
@Youknowthebo Much has changed in Yogyakarta. There are a lot of things you can do in Yogya. And I like the vibe of the city. Yes, I was referring to the Black Ember. Occasionally, I ride my scooter during monsoon seasons. And I often get caught in a downpour. I guess I need to buy one of the 100% waterproof rolltop bags, which visually I'm not a big fan of. Oh, and it's been quite a while since I visited Hamburg. It is a lovely city!

Hi bo, I wanted to ask, how does the Black ember 25 compare to the CPL24 in terms of a few things. 1. Weight: is the extra weight noticeable and is it more comfy than the CPL24? 2. Space: Does it carry more or less overall than the CPL24? The reason for those 2 questions is: I'm a very minimalist traveller, I recently did 1 week trip with just the Evergoods PLC20 and a sling. It was almost perfect except, the PLC was only a little (I emphasise LITTLE) bit small overall. My frame is small at 163cm. I'm stuck in this weird area of bags such as the CTB26 being too big and PLC20 being a little too small. Do you think the Black ember will hit the perfect spot? if not do you have any recommendations (I just really want something as small in size as the PLC20 but carries a little more haha) thanks BO! love your videos!
@Youknowthebo
@Youknowthebo 2 месяца назад
Thanks for the positive feedback. Both bags are amazing. Unfortunately, I do not have the cpl24 anymore to properly compare both bags side by side. They are both amazing and you can't go wrong with either. But if it would be me and I would like to have a diverse collection, I might go with the blackember if I already had the plc20.

Truth to be told most bags look big on our height. But the ctb26 is right on the line of being too big from a visual standpoint. But I don't mind it. Do you want it for EDC or for travel?
