Hey I'm just try to get a word out to valve/steam I had an idea when I seen unity is raised there price I would love to see valve come out with their own game engine/dev tools for free to end bull pucky price gouging of little guys getting pushed out of game development. I see this as win win for valve as let's say they could have the game released on steam first and they still get there cut and a lot more people would start using the engine cause it a cheaper way to start off for beginners and they still get there cut of sales this needs to happen or at least mabey they could start free linux version that moders could help with

For the love of Windowsless Gaming, PLEASE SUPPORT 4K Graphics or ALLOW EXTERNAL GRAPHICS… …if you want to make a cheap console, that’s fine, but for those of us with 4K Televisions that our SteamDeck just can’t properly run games on natively, LET US CONNECT OUR OWN GRAPHICS CARDS! We are willing to do the work and shell out the money, that’s fine if you want to do a cheap low powered console, but LET US CONNECT OUR GPUs ffs… 😩

@F1BERFRENZY it's only "crap" because publishers refuse to support it since it's userbase is small. this is the reason why xbox doesn't have much Japanese games because it's Japanese userbase is so small compared to ps5. Also half the games you said in your comment are compatible. halo, apex and assassins creed are all compatible. even xbox streaming has an official solution posted by Microsoft themselves.

This is what I love about Valve's hardware efforts - even though most of this soon to be announced hardware isn't something I'm in the market for (I already have a main PC and a living room PC for gaming, and an Index), I'd KILL for a Steam Controller 2. It feels like all their efforts are such that their releases improve gaming as a whole for so many people, even people who aren't directly buying the thing.

Even though I own an Xbox Series X controller adn think it works great, I would be VERY interested in a Steam Controller 2 for multiple reasons. I own a Deck and those touch pads are amazing. And the fact that they also have sticks is even better (especially when I prefer touch pad on the right side but stick on the left side). There are some games I even feel where I'm almost forced to switch constantly between controller and MNK due to the fact that different things in games play better in different methods. For example: GTA5 has gunplay which almost always plays better on MNK, so the touch pads would be so much better to play with, however the driving of a car is so much better on a controller, and flying a helicopter/plane in that game? Basically impossible without a controller.

Knowing how Valve have worked so closely with AMD to get a custom APU that punches above its weight, I don’t doubt that they could have something that allows FSR 3 to pump high refresh video to a headset.

seeing more VR games with FSR would be great by itself, need as many frames as you can get when it's VR
@Dracossaint
@Dracossaint 10 месяцев назад
Most of the time headsets set a static frame target and dial back quality in order to stay there. At least the VR games I've seen. They do this by dynamically lowering quality and dynamic resolution already. Soooo I don't fsr will help, it's a upscaler after all

Also sadly as well FSR3 has to be implemented into the game. It has to be part of the game engines rendering pipeline

This gives me hope about a new category of product I was expecting to be released with Pimax Portal Station which promised that along the handheld that is released already. It would be a bigger screen to attach to the device and connect with a umpc via HDMI transmitter of some sort. But the thing is you would probably lose the VR capability of the handheld unless wired to the umpc. Even with the smaller company such as Pimax this was so fulfilling to my gaming needs now with Valve this would make me have goosebumps similar to the ones I had after following GPD devices for so long and suddenly hear about the steampal rumours

With the steam deck giving me a RSI often called gamer thumb, its track pads are the only way I can get a decent amount of gaming in on it(other than kb/m, never had this issue with xb controller on PC though oddly enough). Though I wish the deck had the bowl shape and slight tactile shapes like the original controller to give you a better idea of where your thumb sits.

I think a "VR Console" could work for Valve, since it being a "VR Console" answers the question of how Valve could provide a device that has enough of a purpose to justify getting alongside, or in contrast to other TV oriented devices (such as traditional consoles). What made the Steam Deck so inviting compared to the original Steam Machines was not only that the Deck offerred a substantial library of games on release that people are interested in playing (due to Proton), and that the Deck was accessible enough in how it's provided for people to just get one (as only Valve sells it), but also because the Steam Deck was in a unique position of being the only other affordable device to exist, that offers the ability to play the games that the Switch (the only somewhat comparable device available during the time of the Deck's release at a similar price point) cannot play (stuff like AAA as released on the PS4/Xbox one, and sone newer releses, as well as indies that were never ported), and allows those games to be played portably (which wasn't able to be done accessibly). That offers great value on it's own, with a hint of uniqueness compared to the alternative devices in a similar sphere at launch. A "VR console" would have the same general set of advantages of the Deck (sold subsidized to an extent, accessible to buy since there's a single device sold from a single company, and access to a large library of games that are actually interesting to buy due to Proton allowing regular PC versions), but would have the unique worth of focusing on VR titles that other comparable devices (like the PS5 or Xbox Series) doesn't priotitize or focus on. That provides the unique factor that makes it worth getting compared to the available alternatives.

Valve is already partnering with AMD for their SteamDeck chips, so I don't see why they couldn't increase their collaboration and start production of next-gen-level chips for their standalone console, I think AMD has everything ready to make it happen. If that would be the case, and the price would be competitive to existing "next gen" consoles Valve might seriously shake up the whole console market with increasing subscription costs and pay-to-play-online nonsense.

I think the issue with suggesting the quest could connect to a steam console is that if it runs Linux I don’t think you’d have the Oculus app, which is what the Quest uses to do wireless VR, if I’m not mistaken?

Connecting my Deck to the living room TV has been a game changer. I can't afford a Steam Deck dock, but I did get a usb-c/hdmi hub from Walmart that let's me play co op PS3, PS2, Switch, PC, etc games without dragging my whole gaming PC out of my room. It's also a great platform for Xbox gamepass cloud gaming which has become great. It's almost unreal that I can play 3 different 100gb+ games in a matter of a few minutes with solid performance on all of them. I would only draw the line at online FPS games as the latency is noticeable when streaming something that response heavy.

I can see steam deck or it’s next gen successor powering a style of vr on a chest harness. Something that sits flush against your chest that can flip down to access controls and sits flush to not get in the way of your arms. Multiple ports for hot swapping batteries like magazine pouches. Hand controller holsters on the side of next green steam deck has couch like detachable controller then even better, harness only holds all these separate components

I like your take on a possible set top box. I tried various solutions including the original Steam Link but none of them worked all that well. I wasn't impressed with the launch of the Xbox Series / PS5 and sat on the sidelines for a while then it hit me that everything is now standardized and all of it is X86. For example the XB controller, hdmi, PCM audio, etc. So I decided to just plug in a moderate tower into my TV and yeah sure enough it works great. The only wonky thing is Windows so I use a small Keyboard and mouse but otherwise it's great. But if Valve can do something that's really easy and straightforward, I could see it really take off. The consoles are 3 years old now and roughly equivalent to a Ryzen 5 / 2070 so a set top could easily be equivalent or maybe even more powerful than the current gen consoles.

I get the point of this, but personally I have no use for a Steam Console when I can use my Steam Deck docked. I am looking forward to purchasing the Controllers separately but personally the LegionGO with ChimeraOS seems like the complete package I was hoping for. The Steam Decked or Steam Docked or whatever is a bit strange to release among Consoles, perhaps they are trying to simply the PC Market for the Household entirely not just Handhelds. Dunno.

I've been wanting to get out of the Meta ecosystem ever since Facebook bought Oculus after I had just purchased an original Quest. I was REALLY hoping Valve would make a standalone VR set like the Quest, so if this new device (or pair of devices) fits the bill, I'll DEFINITELY jump ship from Meta to Valve.

My first thought was a Steam Deck Pro. A kinda beefier Steam Deck which is targeted to release in 2024 alongside the Switch 2. It could run VR, unlike other portable devices, and that's huge. I don't believe it's a console like the steam machine or a VR headset at all.
@BurningBroadcast
@BurningBroadcast 10 месяцев назад
A Steamdeck running VR? Using what hardware? The Z1 Extreme is (ROG Ally) is pretty much one of thebest chips you can put in a handheld and it's definitely not pushing VR or a huge jump over the Steamdeck. The hardware simply isn't there to release a significant upgrade over the current Deck. It's not Valves style to replace products quickly. With a console, you dont have any of the battery or power constraints you get with a handheld, thus you aren't running into issues with battery life and heat like you would putting the same chip in a handheld. I'm curious to hear why you think it's a Steamdeck Pro, and what you think would be in it in.
@exodusPrime13
@exodusPrime13 10 месяцев назад
@@BurningBroadcast It wouldn't be a replacement for the Deck necessarily, but a better portable gaming pc that is capable for VR. The ROG Ally is capable to run Steam VR. And a new custom AMD chip like the new Steamdeck Pro has, would be better than the Z1 Extreme (in theory). I just don't see the logic with a standalone Steam console, especially when they already tried that. The Steam Deck is a device that is 2 in 1 (tv/desktop console and portable gaming console). Why would they need a home console now? And you don't have to worry about battery constraints when gaming on desktop/tv. Just plug it in the Dockingstation. The Advantage against the Switch 2 would be enormous. If priced correctly it might have a good chance on competing with the Switch 2 in sales numbers. It's not necessarily about pushing VR to it's limits but about offering a portable gaming device that is capable of VR, gaming, office work, game dev, etc.. unlike anything on the market.

It's probably not going to happen, but I'd love if there was a modular steam console. The base unit would be able to last for a long time without going out of date, and anyone who gets discontent with how certain games run on it can just purchase upgrades to certain components. I don't know how logistically possible that would be, but I would personally love if that were the case.

Isn't the Van Gogh APU capable of 20w TDP? Maybe that's the thing here. With no battery and having thermal room the APU can go further. Maybe more RAM (and overclocked) could also help with the performance on a Steam Box.

My first steam activation was Half Life 2 Game of the Year Edition. Between 2005 and the end of 2011 it looks like I only used Steam for 3 games (technically more, since one of those was The Orange Box), because I guess at the time I was mostly console gaming, and I was still buying most of my PC games on physical discs. 2012 is when I had my first proper gaming computer and the first game I bought was the Crysis: Maximum Edition bundle, and that year alone I bought 27 games, so it's safe to say 2012 is the year that I became a true Steam user.

If this true, then we could potentially get a actual Valve Console with a controller and a VR headset which I could image it be anywhere from $500-$800 i think it be great to not just be able to play your games on steam from pc or steamdeck but also on a massive TV screen. It be great to play with someone in person on a valve console if their going wireless and bluetooth and such. One thing i would love to have added if possible is emulators running with it out of the box but i know that is asking too much

eh in set top box wish they would use at least newer gen chip as putting steam deck one in its already behind other devices so if they used something similar to z1 extreme (or better yet custom z1 extreme with much bigger gpu like in consoles) it would do a lot better assuming its like $399 (maybe not include controller but a separate buy since most people already have some sort of controller). What would be the coolest if it came with a regular pci-e slot that you could just plop a gpu on if you wanted to upgrade.

What I’m really wondering is what is the incentive (if any) to buy a steam console if you already have a steam deck with a dock? Will they interact together? Can you do multiplayer in the same room with one person on the console and another on the deck? Will the console have higher storage space or better visuals? With the steam deck selling so well, what’s the expected reaction to this hardware from ppl that just shelled out $300-600 on a steam deck?
