A Steel Hitbox for my BRO! Extra wide layout with a Meatcanyon-inspired theme!

In today’s video, I get a bit personal and try to convince my brother to play fighting games with the rest of the cool kids. Additionally, we’re going to utilize a metal fightstick enclosure and a new wide body all-button layout in a fresh fightstick we are putting together. My brother is a huge fan of the Meatcanyon channel so you know we had to lean into that theme for this build. Let me know what you thought of the overall aesthetic in the comments below! Or even better, if you’re just starting fighting games and want to run some sets with my brother in SF6, let him know!

I actually started playing "seriously" just two months ago. In this day you could make *very* fast progress because of all the available info: text guides, discord tips, twitch streams and youtube where you watch tutorials and good players doing things with your character to learn small things one at a time Learning as a beginner is fun. You know that you're too weak yet so losing seems natural. But you notice that you get better and better. Then you plateau but not for long really. Then progress, then plateau again. Just like in any other thing I guess. I would suggest to look for some old Sajam and Romolla videos (if you haven't seen them already), they were talking about these things a lot Me from July 5 is an invincible opponent for me from June 5. And I already know that August 5 me would smoke me today. Thanks God he's not around yet. Fighting games are not as hard as they might seem. Especially if you have such a supportive and knowledgable brother

This is essentially the layout i want, this reminds me alot of why pc players tilt their keyboard while playing. The mouse and keyboard can be positioned wherever is most comfortable for the player. With the standard hitbox, you are forced essentially into “home row” typing style. And this makes it hard on your wrists. The “ideal solution” is a sort of split design where you could change the angle and distance of both halves to accommodate for different hand sizes and shoulder widths

Yeah, that "home row" analogy is a good way to put it. Looks like we'd need to have an extendable fightstick to accommodate all body types. I can definitely see the allure of something like that. Thanks for watching/commenting!

You solved one of the issues I've been having when trying to design a controller for myself. I can't see myself using any of the hitbox style controllers on the market because they're too cramped. I need something like this, but I'd move the buttons around a bit. The enclosure you showed in this video is a great start. Thanks for that! This thing looks awesome.

Extra angled "hit" buttons section like in this build seems more convenient to me. Not just for this kind of splits but in general. I also hope more people would try split design, it porbably fits more players than we could have thought

It was really strange for me at first, but this is the first time I've ever played on something so wide. I definitely think it will fit his criteria for a comfortable "big dude" layout, especially since he won't have to "unlearn" any old, tighter hand placements since he's so green at fighting games. Tell him there is no reason to feel bad if he wants to play modern. I have a close friend who I finally got into fighting games and hes loving it because of modern. Hes gone full in and enjoys watching players and everything. Hes slowly learning motion controls while using modern since you have the option to still do the motion to save the 20% scaling debuff on specails it gets.

That's what I was steering him toward. I think there's a stigma against using them, but seeing some of these Japanese pros use modern at Evo and make good use of that style of controls gives me hope. It's better to just play what you like and feels good (while respecting the time you have available to play). Anyway, thanks for watching/commenting!

@@HushMySweet1 lower tier players defintely have a bigger baised against it so reddit per say is full of so many hot takes on it. But Tbh I love modern even though I don't use it. I may be biased because it got my friend into the game and we can finnaly have FGC talk without him just not caring or being involved. Hopfully your bro finds it the same as it made my friend feel like he can play the game like everyone else where hes struggled with motions for a long time and never had the drive to spend the hours drilling them. And np man keep up the great videos.

Your videos are awesome. They really do make sticks (or all button controllers) seem so much more accessible. Great to see you giving back to folks in this way. I'm in the process of designing my own stick and am starting to figure out a layout that suits me. I'm not a big fan of the L1 and L2 being on the pinky, so I'm leaning towards moving buttons towards the thumbs.

Awesome, glad to hear it! You'll have to let me know what layout you settle on for you. On that Rooflemonger build, we oriented those buttons toward the index finger because like you said, the pinky is just a few frames slower and this Drive system seems so integral to the core of SF6. Putting those nearer the thumbs could also solve that problem, so I'll be curious to know what your final take is on the layout matter. I'm still testing a bunch myself behind the scenes (and some are pretty wild, so stay tuned).

I got a cheap all-button controller off of a popular online platform in Southeast Asia and am definitely much better at SF6 with it versus a pad. But even the 24mm buttons feel big, in my opinion. I have long, spidery fingers but I still feel like there's a lot of motion between the buttons. So, I want to try a more 'cramped' layout with smaller buttons to see how it feels.

I love your vids. Your sticks have a very distinct feel, largely due to the art style, but I can tell you put a lot of attention to detail into them. I hope your bro loves it and it's cool you're helping him get into fighting games. Also I wanted to ask, I saw you were using crown buttons in this, have you tried the Punk workshop buttons as well? Would love to see a comparison since they both use mechanical key switches

Thank you very much! As far as the PW buttons, I did do a button comparison in last week's video. I was specifically looking at the quiet element so maybe not quite what you're after since I didn't address any tactile stuff, but you should be able to hear the difference between 12 different buttons if you want to check it out.

This box looks *almost* perfect for what I was looking to make. I hate how crowded the usual hitbox style layout is. Is there a way you could share the specs for this? The only thing I’d change is I prefer the usual hitbox button sizes, and I’d add back in the extra sf6 buttons. Specifically think an extra right thumb button and left hand pinky button could be amazing

Hey, sorry to bother you. You kind of inspired to me make my own controller and to actually trying to put an art on it, I was gonna just do a wooden box. So I went ahead and order an art using the focus attack website layout for a hitbox controller. I got the PSD file and it looks amazing. The problem is, I know nothing of printing and I can't order from focus attack cause my country has some tight importation laws and it's a third world country. So I have to go to a regular billboard store here that do works in acrylic and ask for them to print and cut the acrylic and the art, that triggered my anxiety cause I don't know what size to give to the art to make it so the buttons will fit correctly cause they have like an enclousure like some of yours. The box will be a box I'll ask a carpenter to make and the acrylic will be made by people that I can assume have never done a controller before. Cause here in Uruguay I don't think there's a big community for that. Any advise? Cause I literally know nothing of printing other than if the image is 40cmx17cm it will have 300-309 DPI. And the layout used was the one on focus attack

If you tell them to print at scale, it should be fine, but give them the approximate dimensions to double-check if you're worried. I don't know how the cutting of the artwork will go. Typically print shops in my area don't have lasers to cut perfect circles, so a lot of the times I'll use a hobby knife or a circle cutter and just cut all of the holes myself. If the store works with acrylic, then they likely will have a way to cut the art, but that's a conversation you'll have to have with your shop. Good luck on your build and post it on r/fightsticks so I can see it when you're done!

Hey dude! I just put together a video about a little all-button controller called the Flatbox. They are pretty small, but super cheap compared to most fightstick options. Sounds good! A shame your stick is sad, but we are hardest on ourselves and our own works, so maybe not as bad as you think. Plus, as long as you're learning and improving, it's still the right direction. (Kind of like fighting games: The barrier to entry is a lot of losses before you start getting the feel.) A Guyver stick could be cool. The color scheme would be straightforward. I'm not overly familiar with the source material, but you could go with some biomech / insect carapace aesthetics in your case design. The art itself would also go a long way toward pushing your theme, so you could also start there. Anyway, if you ever complete it, make sure to tag me on r/fightsticks so I can see it.

I have a lot of irons in the fire when it comes to videos, so this one was started before SF6 dropped. Everywhere seems out of stock right now because of the huge influx of people to the scene.
