President Nixon once told a story that he would write a little note to person that was having a tough time. He said anyone could write a note when a person is "on top," but when a person is done that is the time they need the note of encouragement.

I will never forget the interview with Mike Wallace on 60 Minutes when Anwar Sadat called Ayatollah Khomeini a lunatic. Probably the most honest statement I’ve ever heard from any politician that I know of.
@ellf535
@ellf535 6 месяцев назад
60 Minutes was (and still is!) a leftist propaganda outlet that did the carter et al bidding in 1979 to demonize and backstab Iran and her dedicated king, and promote and hype up the khomeinist murderers as “some kind of savior” of the country. I imagine, 60 Minutes was not too pleased by President Sadat’s comments against their islamo-vampire puppet who destroyed the oldest country in the world, Iran.

You know what they say, "Hard times create strong men, strong men create good times, good times create weak men, weak men create hard times..." These men lived in times when the stakes were high...most were veterans of the war or had lived through them. They knew what the world was, they knew what war was, and they knew that the world wasnt a simple idealistic place common minded Americans in their idealized bubble imagined it to be. They were realists, they were pragmatists. They didnt always make the right decisions, they but i have no doubt that individially they are worth more salt and intellect than all the recent leaders have been put together. And no one today would have the strength of character to do what they did back then.

These 3 men were the competent, coherent, progressive, sensical and patriotic men that we unfortunately lost. They were men of faith and truthfulness. The presence of these 3 men assured our world that peace would be the top priority in their leadership. Unfortunately, our modern leaders are all incompetent and mentally ill. Maybe there are still a few politicians left that have an actual brain, but even them are certainly not as good as these 3 intelligent men were. May president Nixon, the Shah (and his father), and president Sadat rest in eternal peace.

The era of pragmatism and moderation is coming to an end. Suppose its just a nature of the cold war and the 20th century in general. The times were hard and stakes were high...you had to be. Such is not the case anymore. More and more people driven by emotion and impulses, and idealogical zealotry...viewing the world in black and white. Good and bad. With me or against me... With a pragmatist, you can profoundly disagree, you may be on opposite sides, and yet know that they can be relied upon to act in their best interest, to behave in a reasonable and pragmatic manner. A pargamatist is one that can be relied upon. You know they have the base level of competence, and human dignity to do whats needed in their interest, to do right by them. To act as civilized men of a civilized society. With an idealist, a zealot...none of that is the case. With that the base level of civlity that distinguishes us as human beings, and that base level of mutual respect, dignity and basic civility in conversation, once that is gone, we are no more animals than men. The only thing worse than a ruthless pragmatist...is a ruthless idealist... There is a certain level of class and dignity that has been lost from the world...the notion that you can profoundly disagree, be on opposite sides of a war but yet admire each others strength and character as individuals...certainly from this time in the 20th century when many lived through war and hardship, sons of the 20th century and of the greatest generation...that common bond among them all, that joined them in mutial admiration and respect. It was a harder time, but undoubtedly a more civilized time...perhaps precisely so because they needed to be. As they say, "Hard times create strong men, strong men create good times, good times create weak men, weak men create hard times..." President Sadat of Egypt is loved by today's Iranian youth for hosting our Shah in his last days. He was a true friend, who ended up paying with his life when he was assassinated by the Muslim brotherhood the following year. Our parents' generation so shamefully exiled the Shah of Iran while he was suffering from terminal cancer and they wanted to execute him if they could get their hands on him and further bring shame and trauma to the Iranian national psyche. The way Carter, Giscard d'Estaing and other western leaders also treated our Shah and replaced him with Khomeini is a blot on the western political history. Not only it was a policy with disastrous consequences for the Iranian people but also the whole world has been dealing with state sponsored terrorism spread by the Islamic Ayatollahs and their proxies.

@user-hj4wr6ec3r yes but not totally... I agree as a person we are all nice human beings. But let's evaluate him for what he was, a politician, a president now. you see, he himself was the reason why Shah was ousted. And so for him to deal with its aftermath (or not) doesn't really change much. If he was competent, if he had the wisdom that Shah was a far favorable asset to have than the mullahs, he wouldn't have had to deal with a hostage situation in the first place. In the bigger scheme, the point is, his contributions were detrimental. To the American history, and beyond.

Nixon was as confused as anybody about the break-in at the watergate and attempted bugging of Larry O'brien and the DNC. He Never authorized it and only learned of it later. The operation made no tactical or strategic sense. Because it was a "nothing-burger" in the words of Ben Stein, Nixon wasn't concerned over it. His enemies pounced on it, exaggerated and sensationalized it and marshalled all forces, Congress, the liberal press, the entrenched Washington/Federal beauracracy, and the Intelligence Ccommunity to destroy him.

President Sadat was a man with a far-sighted vision; however, America shattered his hopes and the hopes of all those seeking peace with its boundless bias towards Israel.

If we had republicans like him and Reagan today, I wouldn’t in fact be worried at all about the direction of America. Even though I have a ton of disagreements with both, I can firmly believe they would never undermine our democracy.

Notice that he talked to former presidents and other world leaders. All we hear about these days is that the President doesn't talk to anyone who doesn't agree with his point of view.

@@junaid1 lol. Is that why Golda Meir in her momir screamed for Kissinger to help? Is that why USA intervened in the war in November 1973 to save Israel? Is that why Ariel Sharon admitted he was lost and couldn't do anything and even when he surrounded the Egyptian 3rd army, it didn't get defeated and Muhammad Hussain Tantawy broke that encirculation eventually? 😂😂 Learn history lol. Here are some sources for you: Ten myths about Israel book by Israeli historian Ilan Pappe. The iron wall book by Israeli historian Avi Shlaim. The fear of peace book by Israeli historian Mosche Zimmerman. My life memoir book by Golda Meir. Elusive victory book by Trevor N Dupuy. Ariel Sharon interview on Yom Kippur war. IDF leaders themselves in the war admitted they lost, on basis are you saying they won and even no sources or documentaries say Israel won that war. Are you in another universe?
