I imagine those fumes didn't smell to good! You probably needed a mask on!!! I know you'll need one heck of a washing after that one! I love watching to see what age bottles & all you dig up! Keep up the great work!😊
You could hear the “pop” when that cork left the bottle. That was so awesome! I wonder how many of us are watching with old bottles sitting in their windows?
Tom you have to learn when to stop, son ! --- Breathing those noxious fumes can affect your nervous system -- We want you to be "around" to make other discoveries and more gem videos !
Crazy dig Tom ! I guess that saying is true"If you can get past the smell you have it licked". LOL ! Enjoyed the dig and seeing all the great finds. Take care and best regards Tom !
Man! You have to give us a chance to send you a tip or a coffee or something! That was crazy with the fumes floating around there while you were digging! 🤑🤑🤑
You need some of those overall-waders (& the long waterproof gloves veterinarians use, dare I say again). Stench is not good for you. 😲 Love watching, learn so much from you. 💙
I just said that to my son the other day - we will have nothing to show our future generations that we were here. Crumpled up plastic and Monster energy cans, somehow no where as beautiful as the glass Tom pulls up..
Oh my, what a nasty, sludgy dig. Hats off to you, Tom! History, archeology, anthropology have long been favorite subjects for me. You bring it all together. Thanks for enduring and persevering through this awful mess.
Every Saturday when I see it's around 4-4:30 pm I think "hmm, it's time for a new Tom Askjem episode!!" Always informative and exciting to watch!!😊🎉🎉 I'm old, so it's exciting to see what bottles come out of pit.
I love to watch you uncover history, your the one that first turned me on to bott vid, your a machine i pray it doesnt make you sick you have gotten sick before its great but not worth your health, but im sure you know when enough is enough
Tom, Tom, Tom - your dedication to digging up the past knows no bounds! This one was a toughie for even the most ardent of Tom Askjem devotees, never mind actual having to mine that pit. I reckon that nothing less than three hot showers and a long soak in the bathtub after that little adventure. Perseverance personified. The paper with the print clearly still legible was amazing - but can we have a nice dry pit next time please!
Tom, if you are not the most dedicated young man, wow! Tom would love to see a video of some of your favorite bottles. That would be awesome. Thank you, Tom ❤
That project looked absolutely brutal. Collapsing, high water table, and serious sewage stink. Yet you hunkered down and made some very interesting finds. A lot of determination led to a lot of bottles. Bet you showered twice!
Ivar was a bow warrior,Norse, hardanger is a fjord in Norway and Google brings up a Hardangar fiddle so looks like maybe advertising for violins maybe on that paper. Looks like the Norwegians would have lived there at the time period, there was also a legendary fiddle player named Turman Sorenson in the 1970's from North Dakota so the tradition was there I'd say from the earlier settlers. By the way their fiddles are expensive now the old ones sell for $30 to $50,000. Does any of this ring a bell, seems Scandinavian dna runs through North and South Dakota. You really had a workout in this pit, great haul. You deserve a rest.Till next time,Take care! Your friend from Ky.😁I love the history!!
You could actually see gas coming up from the ground inside the pit. Be safe and decide when a pit should be scooped out. Still sort through the bottles safely.😊
The steam was actually caused from my body heat reacting with the cold ground water. I was dig purely overdoing it that day keeping up with the water pouring in.
Thanks to you my sewage terminology is growing! 🤣😂 I love it when they invent nice ways to label nasty things!! I will definitely remember "night soil." I love digging in the dirt and I love finding really old things, but I'm not sure I could endure the night soil.
❤❤❤❤❤ great video Tom !! Always enjoy watching you dig and listening to your soothing voice. First time I've ever seen the fume vapors on any of your videos!! Looking forward to your next video!! Take care and hope you get some rest and fresh air this week. 😊❤❤❤
Excellent dig of what looked like a very sticky and smelly pit. Wonder if the Norway bottle and the paper you found had a connection at one point, apart from being in the same hole. Keep up the great work.
Interesting pit! I was hoping some of those bitters would have some embossing after all that work! Hope that nasty mud didn't make you sick! Love watching!
I was hoping to see the Norwegian bottle cleaned up! My 2x great grandparents arrived here around the 1860s from the Telemark area and they may have recognized that product. I'm always impressed by your dedication to these bottle digs but please start wearing a respirator😊
Sometimes you got to do what you got to do. Better to be safe than sorry. We have had to abandon holes before. Got to dangerous. Another fun one. They do get stinky. Thanks tom. Hope you're doing well. Take care.😊
You make this old ladies day with your videos❤I appreciate all your hard work taking us along & your knowledge of artifacts that you share‼️Head out here to Washington state & you can stay withe anytime‼️Thank you❣
Tom, oh my word, you must have been exhausted moving that wet, stinky mud. I was worried for you, but you never gave up. So many bitters. Some serious drinking was done there. That was the toughest dig I have ever seen you on.👏👍😀
@@653j521 I never did privi or pit digs. Old farm dumps, etc. I always walked away thinking maybe if I went down another 6 inches or widened the diameter of the dig. That was my desire for more I suppose.
Hey, Tom! Have you ever seen the waterproof overalls that professional fishermen wear? I think they're called waders and they come with boots that will keep the seal. I wonder if a pair of those might not be a good idea for you to have on hand when you stumble into one of these really wet digs. I also wonder about a breathing respirator and long heavy rubberized gloves - like over the elbow length. I worry for your safety working in these conditions, dude. Be careful and stay healthy! 😊
I appreciate the concern. It seems that by the time I reach the “point of no return” I’m already covered in mud. Ive worn waders and rubber gloves in pits before but it got to be a hassle plus the cold groundwater feels good while working.
As soon as I saw the first shot in the video in what you would be digging in I thought "oh, no"! I don't know how you could even tell what color those bottles were with all that sludge on them! It didn't take alot of imagination to know what you were digging in by what I saw. Keep on digging....but hopefully in better conditions!
Tom,Tom,Tom,Tom,Tom! You get yourself into some really shitty situations!😂 but we do love your videos and the amazing finds. Just look after yourself mate as we do not want any harm to come to you! Watching and supporting from Australia 🇦🇺!
Hey Tom, Perhaps there's a better way for you to continue a project when there's a high water table. I was hoping you would find a soda after all that. Great finds though ☮️💙
Under the circumstances this was just about the only way. We had an excavator in on one of them out there but it tore up the ground pretty bad and actually loosened the ground to the point where it started collapsing worse than it was.
It's a poster telling you that a violinplayer from Hardanger in Norway will entertain you, he will among other thing play at least one dance from Valdres. His name is Ivar Lam something, never heard about him. Ole Bull is mentioned as would be expected, and also a costume often used in that area called a Busserull. But I guess its a bit late to get tickets for that one...
Wow! That was both fascinating and scary! You are amazing and you have great spunk and i love spunk!!!😅. Thank you Tom... I'm happy to not be holding my breath anymore!!! 😂😂😂❤
Not a soda in sight, that’s some hard drinkin’ goin’ on. I think that there are times Tom when you should consider a mask and a ☣️ suit, this was one of them. Please be careful. ❤
That old Norwegian newsprint reminds me of a very good movie, called 'Becoming Astrid'. Astrid Lindgrin, who wrote Pippi Longstocking. She was a young newspaper writer/reporter, the typesetting reminded me of that era she lived in, in Sweden.
