Heh, I remember when this was on telly - I'd do anything to watch every episode even if it meant watching it over and over again to catch the episodes I missed those days when school ended late XD I actually found the lyrics to this (and some other) songs and tried to memorize them ^^;
I think tsukasa's dad was abusive and killed mom and that is why tsukasa was crying, because mom was the only person she could trust and the only prrson to protect her, but with her gone, she was alone with her abusive father.
Tsukasa's mom died while she was still a child. Her father didn't want a daughter, he wanted a son. Because of this, he treated Tsukasa like a boy and refused to purchase appropriate feminine products. He hated Tsukasa for the fact she is a girl, and mistreated her constantly. This caused Tsukasa to become withdrawn and very sensitive because of both gender confusion as well as the conditions she lives in.
***** And I think BT ends up going out with Bear too, if I recall correctly. Which if that's true, then Tsukasa also finally gets both a father and mother figure.
Definitely one of the greatest anime series ever. The soundtrack is incredible. My son and I watched it every Friday night and we couldn't wait to find out what happened next...what a great concept, being a character stuck in the world of a video game with mysteries around every corner...excellent, thanks for posting.
this song has sort of a sad lonesome feeling like as if someone is lost but if you watched this and the anime you find that this song has more than sadness and lonesome it has yearning for love feeling and wandering feeling which is like Tsukasa because it's seems like he's stuck in a wandering world
For ANYONE out for more music like this (more Kajiura). Check out Madlax, Noir (especially Noir), Tsubasa Chronicle and Mai-Hime/Mai-Otome. There are more but those are the ones that really sticks out.
It really is a difficult anime to follow sometimes, but the depth of character development is SO intense. If you've ever played an MMORPG for years you can understand so much more how these people could be feeling.... It fills me soul with a stirring it hasn't felt since the days of Vanilla WoW, a poignant sense of incoming adventure!
@flanny701 You miss soooo much of the story when you end that early >3< And .hack//SIGN is hard to follow when you are new to it, yes. There is a lot more to it than is told in .hack//SIGN, but that's what keeps it interesting. I've been following .hack for over a year and I still have yet to see it all. I've watched all the anime, and played nearly all the games, read all the manga, and only now, watching .hack//SIGN again am I really understanding it.
@sandradmendez I think you mean him not her. In my eyes i honestly couldnt follow it I mean it's a good anime , but when i got to the last 3-6 episodes it felt all wierd trying to follow. Not to mention it has a flash back every 2 minutes its get kinda of annoying. This AMV video is one of the best .hack i've seen and in the top 5 for all anime tho im most likly not a big as fan, but the doesn't mean im not a fan still of this.
@SexyAngelNative I agree with that wholeheartedly. As long as both of them are happy, why should the way they were born matter? In fact it already seems like everyone accepts each other for who they are... so what's stopping these two from continuing their relationship? At least I think it would be a cute one. =P

@XXanimexobsessedXX Aura is awakened near the end of Sign, and is awake in the first for games. Meaning, the events of //sign took place prior to the games, however - Should you watch Liminality, Sieg's player introduced Mai to the World - Before falling into his Coma.
Actually I don't find anything depressing about the song. It's the video creator who interpreted as depressing because of the melody or something. That's why there are depressing scenes even when I don't think it suits the song. I don't think this video deserves 5/5 because of that.

Rewatched this not too long ago. God I wish I could play the games again. Should petition for the PSN to have them available for purchase and download.

It doesn't matter if it's 10 years old. All I'm saying is that I don't think it's really right to dump all of the blame on the reader. Doesn't matter if the series is 10 years old or just came out, some people like to find things out for themselves. And Sign isn't half as enjoyable if you know what's gonna happen.
i know your comment is old, but .hack's most main plot goes as such. sign, .hack the game and .hack// liminality happen at the same time, .hack// roots, .hack// gu the game, and the final chapter, link, was sadly never translated...unless there's an anime/manga adaptation. i'd have to check.
The actual interaction of players and their motivations to play these games is nowhere near as spectacular nor dramatic as show in the series. The character development is indeed deep, but nothing necessarily connected to the genre and scenario - it's actually a characteristic of the Bee Train studio and Koichi Mashimo. Watch his other animes and you'll see striking similarities.
Hmm, I always heard the song from Morganna's point of view, it's basically her telling Tsukasa not to stray from that path he had chosen. As his loneliness feeds a Dark Aura, notice though this song isn't played later in the series because it's not 100% neccessary to keep him only in that state of mind. Especially the "Chorus of Pain" probably is in reference to Morganna's Tempest (SPOILERS) which she uses on Tsukasa to completely break his mind. As to her, it's "taking him back to proper ways."
it's interesting because one could make the assumtion that Tsukasa is a girl in the real world by the end of episoid 4. thanks for uploading this too it's a great song
The Anime may seem a bit odd or annoying at times but I think that if you actually went through watching the entire thing you would possibly like it and enjoy it as a Whole. It's actually a pretty good anime, just gotta keep an open mind for it :)
Never said I didn't like the anime, in fact, I even mentioned I was a fan of the series at the end of my comment. I very much loved the series. The anime dothack//sign is still today one of my favorites. =P I also did re-watch the series quiet a few times, so now I do have a decent grasp of the story.
That's all well and good, and in general I do agree with you. But anime fans who decide to watch an older series can't push the responsibility to avoid spoilers onto everyone else. Sign is 10 years old. If they don't want spoilers, it's their responsibility to avoid them as well, as difficult as it can be. If someone just comes across a spoiling comment, especially one that's 2 years old like here, it's no more the commenter's fault than the reader's.
I really grew attached to this anime, im a bit upset it ended so quickly years ago it was good in my eyes and easy for me to follow unlike others such as Big O -.-'
It does take away from a bit of the mystery, though. Personally, I find it a bit rude to spoil an anime. Let people watch it and find out the story for themselves; that's the whole point of a mystery.
