Thank you to the women who laid the groundwork for women like me who came after you. You made it possible for me to serve my country as a career officer, graduate at the top of my law school class and eventually become a judge. None of it would’ve been possible without you.

My daughter joined the Navy ten years ago. She has also finished her degree while on active duty, has married and has just received a prestigious job within the Navy. My dad, who retired as a Captain in USNR, didn't get to live to see her join, but I know that he is as proud as he could be! The GI Bill got my dad his doctorate in Pharmacy, and Meg has never had to pay for her degree, nor has her husband. It also allowed my parents to buy our childhood home. Most important piece of legislation in the 20th century!

Thanks for the videos. I've seen the Why We Fight series, but are new ones to me. Too bad kids are required to see them so they would understand what their grand/great grandparents went thru during the war and of course, how it changed Americas society.

"This job belongs to some soldier" Indeed it does. He was drafted against his will. If he survives and comes home is he to be told that he can't have his job back?

My mother was in the WAVES and worked as an air traffic control tower operator in Corpus Christi, Texas. She also spent time at the Pentagon. She left Portia Law School in Massachusetts to join the Navy. Her brother also joined the Navy. Sadly, he was killed in Normandy > making my Grandmother a Gold Star mother. ;-( She met my father shortly after the War in Washington D.C. He, also, served in the Navy.

March 19, 2020 - At the time of great fear and panic in our country, with the coronavirus mania going on, I must put things in perspective and look at life back during World War II. This is my calming remedy, my peace, and now my salvation.

Ah yes, when men were men and women were just little girls. I'd show this to my daughter but she'd beat me senseless LOL.

I checked Amazon- mine says "Unavailable". I'd rather watch here, though, where people write 'comments' vs. the "Critiques" a bunch of wannabe Directors post. Thilly curmudgeons...

This is another reason Germany, etc. lost the war: they never used their entire work force, i.e., women.

Yes, Hitler insisted on their being baby factories and not working. It was a disastrous decision, even though the Nazis had all that slave labor and impressed workers from the occupied countries. Oddly enough, one of Hitler's closest confidantes was a woman pilot who was the Nazi equivalent of a WASP.

True. Right behind declaring war on the Country whose Economy was larger than the rest of the world's combined. A Country they had zero chance of invading or even hurting at all other than sinking some ships off the coast which were rebuilt faster than they could ever hope to sink them. Oh and invading a Country with the largest land mass on earth with a military that was built for short, regional wars.

I didn't think the newsreel about the WASPs was condescending at all. Pretty respectful of the women's determination & accomplishments.

They are on on episode #9 o man... They segregated the war even. Most likely for the best, they were able to thrive without the white guys bringing them down. They all did great! I wish things could be different but some people show their ignorance in ways that make even some tuff guys wonder.

They should have named this segment, "The masculinization of the American female."
@farmwife7944

Ethan Allen how many of those women did you ever meet? Farm women always worked both in the house and in the barns and fields and no decent farmer ever complained that his wife was masculine, we are simply competent in many things that are important to our lives and farming success. My mom worked at Pioneer Parachute during the war. My mother was beautiful, with her hair done in curlers every night to look good each day and makeup on whenever she went out which was typical of women of that time. She was slim and trim and took pride in being a woman and passed that on to me. The fact that women fought to keep jobs meant that war widows and divorced women for once had a chance to take care of their children while married women could help with the family finances to finally fill the dreams that the soldiers fought for; a decent home in a safe neighborhood with some luxuries like an electric refrigerator and a clothes dryer. When my dad got out of the service he took classes under the GI Bill to become a high school grad and a journeyman electrician while both of my parents worked night shift at Pratt & Whitney and my grandparents babysat. A man such as yourself that cannot appreciate the work these women did and the example they set for their children is the kind that hard working self respecting women would reject, which may account for your attitude.

Ethan Allen you win the misogynist prize of the year for sure. As a veteran officer only two years from retirement myself I find your dated views disgusting. But it’s surely been my pleasure serving on behalf of someone as backward thinking as you, even if you find my uniform masculine. You can just call me Colonel. Or Your Honor, that is if my judicial robe isn’t too masculine for you too.
