Backstory: This is a collaboration with Randy "Windtalker" Motz, a friend and seasoned award-winning recording artist, who surprised, honored, and flattered me by asking me to do so. Our collaboration made its debut on One World Music Radio, the number one station of its kind in Europe. It has also become part of a larger body of work that is in process thanks to Randy's inspirational additions.
This song started out as a simple solo flute practice, a focused study. As a performer, instructor, and flute purveyor, I enjoy creating recordings of my studies. For me it is a fun way to fine tune my playing and audio and video tech. These studies hone skills and explore note combinations and techniques that will become part of future songs. I believe learning and practice should not be tedious or boring, and that recording and objective listening are key to moving ones playing forward. I encourage all my students to do the same. This study works on intonation, undulation, accuracy in fingering and hitting each note's sweet spot, subtle percussion, and rolling note combinations that I find enjoyable to listen to and play. The video is my visual representation of undulating sound waves. I hope you enjoy my practice time and yours...remember to just hit record and have fun.
