Redfin have been hard to find in Lake Hume this summer. We have tried all our usual tricks to find and tempt them, but to no avail. This video was filmed over two days in mid January. While targeting a likely looking clay and rock bank, we were hoping for some better reddies, or perhaps a big yellowbelly that may be lurking around in search of some small redfin. With that in mind we employed deep divers (Oargee Plows and Bullet KillShot60's) We were able to tempt a big predator, but not the species we expected!!

Awesome work Ross, well done. I need to get my kayak up there again and chase some redfin. Nobody is reporting good fishing for redfin up there though. LOL

Yes mate, it's got me stumped. Perhaps the virus that hit them last summer had a bigger impact than we all thought. Cheers, and thanks for watching.

Gday Rosco, my wife and I were out on Sunday arvo trolling opposite Kookaburra point north of Bethanga bay where I picked up my first Hume weir Cod, a lovely 50cm. Very exciting. Isn’t it great to see these beautiful fish returns to the water. Thanks for your content.

That area you were fishing in has turned up a lot of cod in recent times. Well done! Recognition to fisheries and the local volunteers for helping to make Lake Hume a premier mixed fishery with regular native and trout stackings.

Nothing better than getting a native surprise bycatch! What a chunky cod for 55cm, looks at least 65+ 😂

It's been in a good paddock, hasn't it? It really made our trip that day.

Great stuff Ross well done! i reckon the cod out of Lake Hume are the fattest out of anywhere, that one you got was no exception! i went out in lake Hume a year or so ago looking for a feed of redfin and didn't have much luck then a 56cm cod presented itself late in the session so i decided to keep it for a feed and it was beautiful eating, just because they are fat doesn't mean they are not good eating, i don't often keep a cod for a feed that was the last one i kept

Cod numbers seem to be growing, Sandy. This one was in superb condition, and I agree about Lake Hume's cod, all the photos I see from there are great looking fish. Thanks for watching, mate.

Just wondering why hume is so low when the others still hold plenty of water I love watching what you do family fun thanks

Thankyou very much. The lake is actually holding more water than it normally would at the end of summer, it is primarily an irrigation storage, so is regularly drawn down to meet crop watering demands downstream. It's great to have a useable boat ramp here at Tallangatta, as it becomes unusable when the lake drops to about 52 percent.

Beaut cod gents. You didn't look too unhappy this session about missing out on a feed Roscoe 🙂 Such beautiful fish. Great to see the lake in good shape, too. Cheers PP.

Yes, it's a good feeling to hook into one of those beautiful natives, and just as good seeing them swim off healthy. Cheers, mate.
