Yuya Nakanishi is a Swordsmith.
Born in Nantan City, Kyoto Prefecture, Mr. Nakanishi set up a blacksmith shop in the peaceful village of Kameoka City in 2014 after training in Fukushima Prefecture for seven years. Since then, we have received orders every year to make swords. Japanese swords were once used as weapons for samurai warriors, but Mr. Nakanishi says, "In the olden days, people believed that the sword was not just a weapon, but a god." The Japanese sword was an irreplaceable item for Japanese people in the past. Kyoto was famous for producing swords. After the Heian period, famous swordsmiths appeared from Kyoto, and famous swords were born. Master craftsman Sanjo Kokaji Munechika from the Heian period and swordsmith Yoshimitsu Awataguchi from the Kamakura period are representative examples. The swords made in Kyoto by Sanjo Kokaji Munechika and Awataguchi Yoshimitsu are called 'Yamashiroden', and the common feature is the straight 'Hamon'. And it is a well-proportioned warp. The well-proportioned warp seen in old Kyoto swords is called Kyo-wari.
Many Swordsmith are active in Kyoto, which used to be a famous production area, but now only a few Japanese swords are made every year. Almost all of them are swords made by Mr. Nakanishi. Mr. Nakanishi, who protects Kyoto's sword-making culture, has a dream to someday reproduce the Yamashiro Den sword made by a famous swordsmith. For that reason, I set up a blacksmith in Kyoto. We will introduce Mr. Nakanishi's passion for making swords and Japanese swords.
