They spent like 10 million 2 years ago to build a new on-ramp for the exit Lost Hills instead of building the cross. The exit is 500 feet from where they wanted to build that nature corridor no joke.
He's not gonna bite your hand .... ain't going for your leg if try and kick him... He will lock onto your throat before you can even blink... protect your neck if you see one
They built overpasses over highways here in Nevada for the bighorn sheep and I'm pretty sure no animal in their right mind utilizes them, because its not natural for them. I hope they build tunnels instead.
S M H because it makes no difference in the grand scheme of things and we don’t always know what’s best for a specific animal. If we really want to help we will control our population and our shitty lifestyles.
You shut now by now, nothing. In some states there are highways hundreds of dead deer along the roads.Fish and wildlife in Yellowstone brag that the wolf bring in 30mill where are that money going,??? Buzz and cocaine???
Why are displaying public where they move cougars in the wild ???? As you are so naive not to know that this track and view their main and sole enemies and these are trophy hunters and poachers. Therefore even though you did not want to help you and will contribute to making them easier to track down these killers and kill. In America almost every year allows a quota to kill these gorgeous and unique cats. If you are an eagle and puma your icons, then the puma must and bald eagles are strictly protected and defends by all means of killing. Stop to view and speak openly and publicly where they move and hide cougars, wolves and other wild animals, which are entitled to their privacy and life like everyone. NO mercy for poachers and trophy hunters wherever they are !!!!!!
Mirjana Miki I agree with your sentiments regarding hunting predators, however the information given in this video will not be useful to hunters. There are mountain lions everywhere and hunters use dogs to find them.
Thank you a million for the post. These beautiful animals are going indistinct and poachers, and hunters do not help preserve the cats which help the ecosystem.
If you wildlife conservationist know that these cats are going to get killed in a human populated areas especially in near busy traffic freeways why don't you relocate them in a more remote area away from human population. You guise talk about trying to save these animals but yet you let it happen and could of been avoided for that one cat that got killed by a vehicle its going to happen. How about relocating them to the Florida Everglades, they sure need Florida panthers there?
If only we had some sort of communication device that would allow us to contact the outside world without getting out of the car or even a fixed communication devices at small store by an off ramp to notify someone!
PLEASE REMEMBER NOT TO STOP ON THESE HIGHWAYS. Most highways like that -- a man or women cannot even pull over to stop. You're talking about creating a large number of cars piling up on the highway, with possible injuries and death to many or some people. PLEASE KEEP DRIVING IF YOU HIT AN ANIMAL ON THOSE KINDS OF HIGHWAYS. Another topic: Will we find a replacement for those kinds of highways?
P Zettl We are on their land too, we need to cohabitate... I live in CA, and I do not mind some of my tax money going into a wildlife bridge. Please show a little empathy for animals on this planet!! It is NOT all about humans on this earth.
Are these guys just going off the books? Have they done any extensive in person research on the habitats of these animals at night? They seem to be confused. I hike alot at night at these places the mountain lions are seen. Ask anyone else who hikes around at night in this area. The #1 prey animal we see in abundance are rabbits! I see dozens upon dozens every time without fail. These could eat the pellets with rat poisoning. They are also much easier to catch with repeated success.
Right on! Keep up the good work! The bridge for the animals to cross the highway will be a good start! Also, wildlife people know how to transport lions to wilderness areas where they would mate -- with a good gene pool. Will the wildlife managers consider intervening to help with these animals not going extinct by moving in available lions to mate, and/or moving some of these lions out of the area so they can mate? Lions are extinct in the east coast of the USA -- except Florida -- as far as we know. This is bad for the earth, and therefore bad for mankind. Let's do all that we are capable of to save these American mountain lions.
Ruth Rogers want to save mountain lions on the west coast? We need to stop DEVELOPING the west coast. In 100 years it will be just as trashed as the east. Population control and stricter laws regarding environmental protection. Moving a few collared animals per year will not help and could potentially hurt.
OMG that is what we have been saying here in Spokane, Wa.. when I drive at 2am to work I see so many animals killed on the highway.. I have even seen moose in the middle of the night in town on the highway by the BBQ restaurant.. but I see cats, dogs, coyotes, raccoons, birds. All dead because of cars... We need to protect our wildlife because everyone can see we have less and less animals left in the wild. It's so sad when we can build things so fast.. why can't we build some ramps or tunnels for our wildlife to cross freeways and highways safely??
P-22 is no more. Captured and euthanized yesterday as an old, sick, and injured cat. Let's remember him as he was in 2013 in front of that Hollywood sign)). *PS: Good work on taking out a Chihuahua before you went to the big cat retirement home in the sky ;-)
Sadly, that one living in Griffith Park started hunting small dogs on leashes, being walked by their owners. Soon, he was tranquilized for a health check up and there were some health issues found. He had to be put down.
Not meant to be seen... they are stealth. I've seen one once, by accident, at night... a fleeting glance and it was gone. 1.5mo ago. It was crossing the road, low to the ground, at night. Too big to be a bobcat. It was either young or a female I believe. The eyes... I'll never forget them, the way they lit up in my headlights. And the long, sleek body... I'll probably never see one again. It paused for just a moment, looked, and then took off. It was amazing, yet spooky. I stopped and my friend and i heard it as ran off into the brush, as it of course, realized it had been seen. I think it had waited to cross the road after a truck s ways ahead of us passed by first, but I don't think it anticipated another vehicle coming. If you watch these videos, they say they watch the traffic and that's how they're able to cross the freeways... they can tell by monitoring their collars and cameras. This one had no collar. The ones where I live don't. The one in Griffith Park has been seen (per the video) less than 5x in 6 yrs. You probably won't ever see him. They're not for entertainment and the park isn't a zoo. He doesn't really belong in an 8 mi radius either, but he's somewhat comfortable and trapped now.
Don't look to culverts which go under the freeways. Because they are sheltered, homeless encampments are using them so the animals won't. Not that people don't deserve shelters, but if we're thinking about animal migration, build the ones over the freeways. This is a very good documentary. Thanks
"Mountain Lions need 200 square miles to roam". That is a gross over-exaggeration. This means the entire state of California is suitable for only about 840 cougars.
