i thought at first when you went to the sorcery cave right off maybe you had remembered a tip, mostly the reason to go there early isnt to learn sorcery, but for the chests in the back of the cave, often you can get a full set of steel tools to start off with and usually a weapon or 2. i generally go there very early and then cut thru the un named city, and the chest by the bat is an easy one to also go grab that sometimes has decent stuff, i also go to the library next to learn the maproom and hit the obelisk.
