I know that historical accuracy is supposed to be a thing here so is the Daniel Boone Tactical Emergency a real thing? Can someone elucidate this?
@WartimeStories
@WartimeStories 3 года назад
Yep. The name of this MACV-SOG cross-border covert mission set was termed as “Daniel Boone”. “Daniel Boone TAC-E” was a coded distress call that cut in on all radio frequencies across Vietnam. It meant that a team was about to be overrun, and it summoned all available aircraft to converge immediately, especially “fast movers” such as jet fighters and tactical bombers-which were forbidden to cross into Cambodia, even in support of teams that were in heavy or overwhelming contact. What Tornow had just requested in order to save the team had all the makings of an international border incident, and maybe even a court-martial. www.sofmag.com/legend-army-master-sgt-roy-p-benavidez/

As Mexican American kid, I was told about the incredible story of Roy Benevidez, especially from my relatives who are proud Texans, and my relatives who fought in 'Nam. I thought they were just telling me a tall tale but NO NO NO- everything was truth without hyperbole. He was 100% the real Rambo. yeah it honestly wouldn't surprise me if he was one of the biggest inspirations for Rambo, him and Arthur Whermuth aka the ghost of Bataan aka the one man army, he had a confirmed kill count of 116 japanese, he was not even a sniper at that, like 95% of his kills were from his Thompson SMG and grenades, one time he encountered an entire platoon of japanese infantry, he knew even with the element of surprise he couldn't take that many so he decides to stat marching with them (this was in the middle of night and before NVGs were a thing) and to help keep them from noticing a 200 LBS American in an American uniform he decided to shush them the moment anyone stepped on a twig or made a sound, well after a few miles of doing this they are only a few hundred yards from American lines, well he knows he has to do something, he decides his best bet was to pull the pin on a grenade, then act like he tripped and hand the live grenade to a japanese soldier then just haul ass away then empty a mag into the remaining japanese, it worked flawlessly and he ended up taking out the whole platoon of them, that is just one of the stunts he pulled in ww2...

Hey there devil dog! Good to know you. I’ve met many salt dogs from Nam, but I had a met a Vietnam vet who was a coach who later offered to train me in the pool after I got to MARSOC in 2015. Having already been Recon and a MC Water Survival Instructor at the time, I thought I was a decent swimmer. Then I met this guy. His favorite routine was to have me jump off the 40ft platform and without surfacing for air, immediately do a 25m underwater crossover. That, and he’d give me a balloon, tell me to swim to the bottom of the 15ft pool and then inflate the balloon down there. If you haven’t tried it, it’s damn near impossible lol.

As an Ex-US Army Infantryman, I can relate to the quiet whispers that are exchanged between fellow patrol members on a foreign jungle or wooded area while conducting a mission. Thanks for telling MSG Benavides's story. Young people today admire movie stars, stars who sing &/or dance, spoiled men & women who play sports & even "superheroes" who are fake. MSG Roy Benavides is a true hero who's story motivated me to sign-up to serve my country to do my part in the defense of this great nation. I hope that someday, u do a story on Capt. Lance Sijan, USAF. His story is just as inspiring as MSG Benavides's. Thanks for mentioning it, Jervis! Funnily enough, I did model this off of radio shows I have enjoyed listening to since I was a kid. I'll see what can be done in future videos, with regard to keeping a similar format. I enjoyed making it as well. The idea just jumped out at me since the book I was using (Legend) contained a lot of the actual dialogue, likely recalled by Brian O'Connor and the other surviving men, many years afterward. Seemed a shame to let it go to waste.

"Back in time for beer and bedtime stories." Oh, now that's what I call a cheeky reference XD Mad respect to Greyhound Four. Even after seeing his leader get torn up and with rounds whizzing everywhere, he still landed and attempted the extraction. Even when pretty much anyone else would've left, they still stayed to give the team as much time as possible to try and reach them. Must've been hard too for the team, even if they didn't really think about it, to have their getaway so close yet impossible to reach. That crew had the blood of Spartans in them. Also, a nice touch to speed up your speech when the action with the chopper got intense. A small audio cue that conveys the speed with which things are happening. Reached the end. Fantastic stuff. I dare say, your quality is on par with the much older Bedtime Stories, if not superior. Well done.

I know it's a bunch of extra work, but the RU-vid general subtitles block out a lot of your imagery and just are sad at best. I dig the subtitled narration that you do (like bedtime stories?) and I'm hoping there's an effective Way to add those types of subtitles for everyone narrating. After all the background checks and waivers though, Uncle Sam's Misfit Children were the only ones who liked me cause I'd dropped 100 lbs in 4 months during the DEP lmao But even with an ASVAB of 93, with all the waivers it was either Infantry, Combat Support, or Supply (once again, had younger me been smarter, all my Civ 5, Sim City, and whatnot made me a Logistics wonderboy, but I said, "who joins the Marines to be supply ...?...") So they put me artillery, 1st/10th Alpha battery. Even had our own 1st Sgt and CO stand ground mid training at Bridgeport to cuss out the BC and Sagmaj for mistreating the hurt Marines ... I'm hoping Part Three has that same effect. Thanks for saying so, I was hoping to create that exact virtual experience. Honestly, because creating animations is far more difficult than the audio, I often wonder if the animations don't detract from the story that the audio tells by itself. One of the many aggravations of making these videos haha.

Too bad the rest of the world doesn't. All while they decry military action they are totally unaware of the reasons for, and waving peace banners, they don't even know their right to do so has been paved by war and the blood of their countrymen. I'm glad my great grandfather died before the trend of calling anyone who didn't agree with bogus liberal policies 'a nazi' as it would be a bad idea to call that WWII vet a nazi.

We definitely need more stories, like this of heroism bravery, in the face of overwhelming adversity. One of the people that I met was Captain Larry patella, who was given orders to pull out when Saigon fell saying that the sea coming in and starting to gun down women and children, he disobeyed his orders, parked his ship, shoved all of the military equipment off of it and started bringing women children and civilians onto his flat top. He took a lot of pictures of this. He brought a lot of them as many as his flat top could carry to safety, and still felt that he had not done enough , we used to go to his house for an Italian luau. Some thing he created another person that ran combat missions that I met when I was in AFROTC was Colonel James de Kula, who in Vietnam, got shot down and ended up in the Hanoi Hilton, he told us many stories, but he also told us about how Jane Fonda came over, and basically was all chummy with the Commies and Gave them a lecture that they did not need to be there

Since you are covering some Vietnam and MACV-SOG content, what about covering Lauri Torni/Larry Thorne? Hell of a story there, and a tragic ending in the same jungles. Just finished the vid and wow, that was something else. Great work from every VA and the intensity of it all is better than any fictional movie or show.

or Arthur Whermuth (aka the ghost of bataan aka the one man army) or Desmond Doss (the medic who got the medal of honor without even carrying a gun in the pacific theatre of ww2) or dan daly (possibly the most gifted marine of all time, he is one of 2 people to ever get the medal of honor twice and was going to get a 3rd medal of honor for his actions in ww1 but then the top brass made it illegal for you to earn the medal of honor more than once in large part because of him) or Simo hauha (quite possibly the deadliest sniper in human history, 505 confirmed kills with his rifle and another 200 confirmed with his SMG, even back then "confirmed" kills were very under reported and in all liklihood his true total is in the thousands) or Col. lewis millet (one of the only people to serve in ww2, korea and veitnamm, he got hired as a "contractor" for the CIA, he was so elite as of 4-13-2024 the CIA still has never admitted he even was an agent of theirs but he for sure was since he moved like an hour away from CIA HQ and he dropped off the records so thoroughly only the CIA could be responsible) or any number of war heroes.
