Gilda Cruz-Romo is maybe one of the most underrated sopranos of all times. Her beautiful diction, vocal production, magnificent acting and tremendous musicality were deserving of greater recognition. As a member of the opera chorus, I was fortunate to be on stage with her in Turandot, Norma and Otello. She was always professional and gracious every time.
Buddy, you are correct!!!!! She had it all. How lucky you were. I was in the chorus with her for Attila in Philly. What a powerhouse and NO BULL. She came on and did it! And, so very kind, and funny, too!
@alexgomez, I thought I said so a while back, but in any case, definitely agree. I've tried finding album recordings by her and so far no luck. Appears she elected to not do that, and she was not alone in that policy. It's amazing to realize really how shamefully brief the era of hard copy music recording lasted.
I'm still looking for footage of the much hailed Otello with Domingo Milnes and Ricciarelli, but I think none exists. Milnes knocks my socks off and Domingo is a genius artist.
@@alexgomez2 Largely agree, I have the DVD. The cast is superb, and while I have issues with some of Zeffirelli's directing decisions, and a big one with the sound track pressed to disc a half tone too low, it is sumptuous and captures the glistening artistry of the principals for future generations. Paz y salud.
