It's time for a fun afternoon on the Farmall MD! I hook up and adjust the sickle bar mower, then head out to clip a 5 acre hay field.

I've really enjoyed watching your videos. I get goose bumps listening to the sound of the MD, from starting to shut off. My Dad bought a 1947 MD brand new, and I could hardly wait until I got old enough to drive it. Finally at 9 yrs of age and 2 yrs of bugging the heck out of the old man, he finally let me drive it. I had to wedge my butt against the seat to reach the clutch, but I didn't mind. I did a lot of chisel plowing, and loved listening to that diesel beller as I would work this Michigan blue clay. If all the tractors I've ever operated from my grandfather's 39 A to my cousin's Case IH Steiget, my absolute favorite was and forever shall be the MD. Thanks for taping and sharing your restoration journey. I really enjoyed it. I restored a 51 H, and 40 A kerosene, but haven't worked up the courage to tackle a Diesel. Probably at age 83, I never will. Again, thanks.

Pete, there is nothing more relaxing than working a tractor with some form of a grass cutter. I had a Farmall 140 offset that I inherited from my late ex-father in law. I kept it running as smoothly as possible and even put a 4 foot brush cutter on it. It has the one point hitch. Ex wife got it back in the big D. It had all the planters and cultivators with it and was a great garden tractor. I now have 3 Fergusons and a JD cab/air tractor. My oldest Ferguson is a Harry Ferguson TO35 that was my grandfather’s tractor. We baby it since it’s a 1956 model. You’re an Architect and I’m an Engineer. I’ve retired once 10 years ago but never stopped doing engineering. I lease out the hay cutting to a person who is baling haylage off the fields. He gets about 1000 bales a year off of 4 cuttings. I would never take on the tractor rebuilds like you as I no longer have the patience to dig into the repairs like you do. It was exciting when I did do the repairs myself years ago but have since lost my patience with in depth repairs. I enjoy watching you do the restorations and one thing I can greatly agree with you on is the need to have a good set of shop manuals for each piece of equipment. I’ll keep on plugging away as a consulting engineer for hopefully another 10 years and maybe if my patience returns, starting going through some of my equipment then. Keep’er running and stay safe on the farm.

Mr. Pete, you farm the way I did when I was farming as a teenager/young adult. We had a Farmall "M", not the "MD" My neighbor had the "MD", and I spent a lot of time on it. When I started mowing hay, I used the cycle bar mower, except ours was tow behind. Then we graduated up from there. Back then, that's the kind of mower that the state and county used to mow the ditches. By the way, I'm 61 years old. Thank you so much for sharing this. I was watching you spread maneure the other day, and it brought back a lot of memories because that's exactly how I did it. We also at one time had a Farmall C, H, and a John Deere 630 with a wide front-end on it. Those were the days.

In the early '70's the local farmer that I worked for had a belly mower mounted on an IH806 w/ tricycle front. It made monitoring the cycle bar much easier. A downside was that it was possible to drop a rear wheel into a low enough depression to sit the tractor weight onto the mower frame.
