A Thousand and One - Review (2023) | Teyana Taylor & Will Catlett | Sundance Film Festival 2023 

Watched it about a week ago. I was blown away and will never forget it. Very emotional ride of a movie. Great 90's and early 2000's NYC Timepiece Film. Powerful Film and Great Soundtrack.

Just saw this movie and it blew me away. It tackled so many nuanced heavy topics like the effects of bad government policies, gentrification, generational trauma, colourism, the angry black woman narrative, self growth, poverty, love and family. I mean, it was a lot plus the performances were exemplary. Loved every bit of it!

This is an Oscar movie if I’ve ever saw one !! I love watching movies that get good reviews at the Sundance festival, And this one was a winner.. I wanted to see for a long time. Now saying it’s an incredible movie is the understatement of the year!!! The twist wow Incredible. I loved how throughout the whole movie they creatively reminded us what was happening during that time for minorities in New York/Harlem and in some cases all over America. How they disguised things like racism, police brutality, Racial profiling and gentrification with announcements like “making New York Safe again” and “improving our neighborhoods” making it sound like money would be spent to improve the look of New York. When the reality was a lot of the buildings/homes were being bought at a low cost by wealthy white Americans who were really bending/breaking the laws of the landlord tenant act, by forcing families to leave their homes, the same people who have been a part of the community from the very beginning, generation after generation. So the owners can remodel the homes, units to charge more in rent often doubling, tripling the costs. Which will in turn make the rents way too expensive for the former tenants to return giving them no option but to move away, which of course is gentrification. Now the acting 👏👏. Everyone was incredible 👏👏. Can’t wait to see how it does during award season. Better win lol i Just love it !! Now Idk if this effected how much I love it. But I can relate to this story as a single mother with now 30 year old beautiful black identical twin sons, (have a stunning inside and out 18 year old daughter too. I’m the luckiest mother alive) working hard for them for their future, having a wonderful loving partner who is a wonderful man, but has his own issues from childhood, who allows that to come between himself and his sons. Not present as much as his sons needed him to be. It’s hard as a mother to do all You can to give them what they need/want to have a good life but not be able to give them what they deeply truly needed/wanted. It’s nice now that my one son lives across the country in Vancouver BC where his dad lives now, where they have a strong relationship and both are doing great. But also sad because his brother here in Toronto hasn’t talked to his dad in almost 13 years. Because he feels he left them/us (I had moved on by then and as much as I love him as my friend, I just hurt for my boys at an age they really needed him). That’s sad. But thank goodness he’s doing incredible at his career and personally. But It sure hurts children when a parent is “damaged” and it effects their relationship.(heck we all have some damage but 🤷🏼‍♀️). It just breaks my heart whenever I see it. I want to show all children they are loved and are worthy of love that it isn’t them, it’s not because they aren’t incredible!! I just love love all children, I’m that friend that will call you out lol you know :) if you give me a silly excuse why you aren’t there for your children, especially when I hear them complain…why their children don’t CALL THEM 😳🤦🏼‍♀️. who’s the parent !!? But I strongly believe it’s never too late😊 Until it is 🤷🏼‍♀️ Thank you for your thoughts and options if this amazing movie. ♥️♥️🇨🇦

I saw this yesterday too, the mother and child me and you against the world, the secrets...very relatable for me and for alot of ppl in Many ways the love in this movie is amazing, for sure made with love
