She certainly crushed the miles. I could do a few twenty mile days but she hit them over and over again. Very impressive. She would leave me in the dust, much respect.
Hey Ivey. This was great. I have been staying in Killington, VT for several months and so I pass the trail head for The Long Trail every time I go to or from town down to Rutland. Hikers are frequent riders on our public shuttle bus. I used to camp a lot in the summers up around Lake Champlain in Burlington, VT and thereabouts but I never did any trail hiking. I think I might give it a shot this spring or early summer. Thanks for sharing!
250+ miles of roots, rocks, and mud! This video brings back SO MANY memories of my childhood. I grew up in Rutland and hiked all of the LT by many day hikes and overnight trips with the GMC and Boy Scouts. Finished back in 1975. Glad to see there is finally a hiker bridge over the Winooski River. Looks like you had a great time on your trip!
Thanks for posting. I retired a couple of months ago. Plan on doing the trail this September. It looks beautiful. You did a beautiful job with your video. Congratulations
Hi! Three things that stood out to me: 1. You! Jeez you are really buhyooteefull! 2. VT. Yes! There's a possibility that I might move there in spring/summer and you capture what I'm going after when I move there, wilderness/peace/happiness. 3. The shot that lasts a few seconds starting at 13:16 is just incredible. The movement of the branches, light and your tent. .... Thanks for sharing this. I'll be sure to check out your other vids! :)
I just finished hiking the Longtrail August 21st of this year and I'm still grieving it. It was so great to watch your journey and remember my own. Thank you
CONGRATS! 🎉🏕👣㊗️ For your successful LT thru-hike. It's so cool that you met Stringbean on your journey. I remember PT "Probation Termination" mentioned that you just flew by him and Marmalade in one of his episode. Happy trails!
Thanks for putting out this video 👍. I’ve watched it at least 3 times in anticipation. I’ll be doing it SOBO starting in August. Keep up the good work on videos and happy trails 🏔
Congratulations on your accomplishment, and great work with the video. Also, kudos on making the trail a physical challenge as well. I hope you are doing well! :)
very nice video well done Ive done so many sections of the LT years back with friends and my kids too nice to see those old areas again, some has changed so hasnt that I remember the lincoln gap I froze my rear off one night it dropped to 25* never got to do it all, got disabled, thanks for bringing back old memories if you have a ham radio license a bunch of us locals monitor 146.520 every half hour on the hour as a safety protocol for hikers Congrats
Wanting to try hiking the Long Trail this coming summer. My plan is to section hike the Allegheny Trail here in West Virginia on my weekends off for training, it's very similar rugged and remote
Awesome job completing it. I’ve done parts of the long trail but not the whole thing I’m planning to do more of it summer 2021. Just curious what is the name of your shelter system? it looks really nice. Anyhoo safe travels and see you on the trail!!
That's awesome! I thru-hiked the AT in 2017 nobo, and then went nobo again in 2018 from PA to Katahdin! I can't wait to do the southern half a second time :) Have a blast!! You'll cruise right through the LT after finishing the AT!
Excellent video which I watched with rapt interest as I plan to hike the LT this Fall. Could you suggest a portion my gf could join me on for a week that combines beauty with accessibility? Thanks!
Awesome video, it looks great, thanks for sharing. I'm planning a 2021 hike if I can make my schedule work. did you take any zero's or Nero's? You look like you were busting out the miles. If you were to do it over again any changes?
@@shetreksco I have heard the first hundred are not so brutal but after that things really kick into gear. Still over 25 miles a day is some serious miles. Most of my hiking takes place in the White mountains so if I can average 15 a day I will be happy. Very impressive miles I must say.
Section hiking is always a great option! Doing a week or so, here and there of any long trail is really rewarding if you cannot take enough time off work to do the whole thing in one go.
Great job! You probably get asked this a million times so I apologize but I have to know: what camera are you using? The quality/definition of this video is stellar!
Hey Kaleidoscope, Thinking about doing the long trail next year for my 60th. Did you find the northern part harder than the whites? How are the opportunities for resupply?
I definitely think you'd love it! I'd say the northern portion is much like the whites but less heavily trafficked. There are portions that feel less established and more remote. Resupplying is not bad, I walked to all of mine! The longest being 5 miles off trail.
Hey! I had actually just returned from a 6mo trip to Patagonia, where I was a part of several expeditions, so I was pretty well in shape. However, I usually prepare for a thru-hike by going trail running or hiking, doing body weight exercises and working out with a kettle bell, and just making sure that I’m moving every day.
My base weight was 15lbs roughly, and I probably carried 7lbs of food at the beginning of each resupply, plus at most a liter of water; max weight: 24lbs
I know you are a nutritionist . Why has no one focused on suppliments for assisting the long distance hike health advantages. I see most suffering from nutritional shortages and they never realize it. They are only worried about getting enough caloric junk . Joints are sore every day , they have muscle cramps, stomach aches, lowered immunity etc..a little MSM, magnesium, probiotics, enzymes, vitamin D, C, and zinc would solve these problems. Foods just no longer contain enough , due to mass production. Sorry I made this too long.
There are people focusing on nutrition, check out the backcountryfoodie on instagram! And there are many others like her. Talking about what I eat on trail does not interest me currently. I've tried fueling my hikes every which way and honestly, each thru-hike is different dietarily for me.
