A time-lapse in 2023 after we planted over 10,000 crocuses in the backyard in October 2021.
All bulbs were planted 8-12 cm deep, around 15-20 cm apart and it took around 16 hours to plant. We avoid walking on the lawn from when the ground thaws in the spring until they are done flowering and then wait until the end of May to cut the grass. For every one bulb planted in 2021, there were 1-2 flowers in 2022 and 2-5 flowers from each bulb originally planted. These crocuses make a great crocus lawn!
Cultivar:
Crocus tommasinianus ‘Ruby Giant’
Bulbs planted: October 5-9, 2021
Time-lapse: March 19-April 12, 2023

How do you mow the lawn? Or do these come up early Spring before the grass starts to grow?

The crocuses grow and start to flower before the grass starts growing. The crocuses produce long leaves after they flower that are there for 4-6 weeks. They start to die down in late May and the grass takes over. We cut the grass the first week of June to allow some time for the crocuses to store some energy for next year.

Those look great! I heard crocus tommasinianus spreads like crazy. Did it take over your garden and spread into your beds?

We have yet to find any outside of the lawn. This specific cultivar does not self seed, so if you have gardens with edging you should be ok.

Looks great!! How did you plant it? What method did you find easier/effective?

We ended up using a narrow transplant spade and making slots every few inches. Here's a link with a short clip showing the process: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Vte6kajXXPw.htmlsi=Kc3VBRg9hTrFDOI_&t=234

What made you choose to go with this variety? I was considering “Barr’s Purple” but I’d love to know a if you choose this variety for a reason?

We went with Ruby Giant because it was the darkest and cheapest crocus that was available. It looks like Barr's purple is also Crocus tommasinianus so it is likely very similar.
