Performers: Jennifer Weier and Emily Madiera
In memory of Ann Broadaway and Lou Ann Smith, dedicated members of the Foundation's Arts and Humanities Committee.
Friends Emily Madiera and Jennifer Weier present a concert created with gratitude that one of the seasons of life includes a time to dance. The music selections connect us with past musicians who have celebrated dance nourishment and written music for this purpose. The concert will include selections by Francis Poulenc, Astor Piazzolla, and Franz Liszt, in addition to a variety of other genres of music and movement.
Jennifer Weier graduated in 2014 from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln with a Bachelor of Music degree in Piano Performance. She has performed internationally for chamber music festivals and as a soloist throughout the United States. Jen served as the musical director for musical theater productions, directed a community chorus, taught piano and voice lessons, and worked as a church musician.
She obtained a Master of Arts degree in Conflict, Displacement and Human Security from the University of East London. Jen is interested in making music’s healing abilities accessible for populations affected by mental health issues, trauma, and displacement. In June 2021, she relocated to Goldsboro to begin working with Saint Paul UMC.
Emily Madeira is a lover of movement, play, and authentic human connection. From ages 10 to 21, she formally practiced various styles of dance including ballet, jazz, modern, hip hop, and pointe. She holds a B.A. in Psychology and a minor in International Relations from Salisbury University and a Master’s Degree in social work from Tulane University.
Emily’s movement practice expanded through artistic dance with hula hoops, which led her to street performing in various cities around the country. She settled in New Orleans, where she began working with various educational and governmental agencies to address the achievement gap and other systems of oppression.
Emily has an ardent passion for all partner dance but has focused her practice on contact improv, Argentine tango, and blues dance. This will be her last performance in the U.S. before she moves to Buenos Aires in November to continue her studies of movement and dance.
