Kim Cattral stole every scene, and it stands to reason that it was difficult for SJP. And Kim had every right to "demand" more money, because she was the spark in the show. Another YT channel recently had an interview with a crew member who said Kim was the crew's clear favorite and they would actually clap and cheer for Kim after scenes cut. So even the crew felt Kim's spark!
SJP was a executive producer for the show , thus commanded and deserved a bigger paycheck for doing much more work!! Kim was a fading B to C movie actress at best before the show and she let the shows success and jealousy go to her head . But n stead of using it as a springboard to other projects. She did no additional work off season like her co stars.
Parker signed up to be the main attraction. Kim was the breakout star. Parker got jealous and created a mean girl clique with the other two. Kim eventually walked away.

I completely agree. After about the fourth season it felt like Samantha’s plots were kind of mean and degrading. Kim still pulled them off, but it felt like the writers had a grudge against her.

It was a toxic environment and with SJP as a producer she was in a higher pay bracket to the other girls. Kim wanted and deserved a pay rise. Kim also didn’t like how Samatha was been written and defended her character as best she could!! Parker made herself look small when she railed against Kim Cattrall's popularity and punished her for it. Parker could have capitalized on it and helped herself, her image, her bank account, and her co-stars' bank accounts, but she just wouldn't. I didn't see the new movie cuz I didn't care that much for the show.
I don't know what happened or didn't happen in the sets, nor behind the scenes. But I do know that when I did watch, Kim Cattrall was the draw and for me, the star of the show. I definitely noticed a change under Michael King, of the character. I felt it was shortsighted writing, an attempt at reducing her natural shine and vivaciousness to vulgar promiscuity for the sake of promiscuity. The typical "loose woman" shallow and materialistic. But Kim Cattrall being the magician that she is, managed to take what she was handed and imbue it with life, power, humor and vivacious, vibrant charisma. None but the most uptight could help but loving and celebrating and looking forward to Kim's Samantha, even burdened with the change of tone. That is why, in my mind, SJP's Carrie may have been the lead character, but Kim's Samantha was the true star of the show. Because Sam was in fact the heart and soul of the show, and not just because of her looks, but the actual personality, the fantastic acting, her absence is unfortunately really felt.
If Kim doesn't want to do it, she shouldn't be forced or coerced to. She is in her 60s and maybe she's tired of playing that role, which she is entitled to do so.

Samantha was much more annoying to me, she was stuck on sex, rude and mostly unsurprising to watch. I just knew that all of her scenes would be about her coming to terms with the fact that she wants to love and that she’s too independent to do that. She was your regular modern American bitch.

Agreed, Kim did the smart thing by not participating in the reboot. Most TV reboots never do well(look at the recent Will & Grace and Murphy Brown reboot for example) and it looks like the Sex And The City reboot will follow the same fate. Good job Kim for not participating.

The fact that I've seen Kim on other tv shows (even staring in one as the main character) I can see why the other actresses were jealous. Most of them got their debut on SATC and never moved up from that, they literally had to do a reboot and play the same characters they played over 20 years. They even had to turn the show into a movie to keep audience interest in the show after past the 90s. Kim stood out. Not her problem she had more potential than the others

This just came to me, but maybe they really were throwing shade at her in Just Like That when Samantha left because Carrie refused to be her ATM? That doesn't sound like Samantha at all. Friends didn't have a main character, that's why the actors got along better. SJP is the main character of her shows and she demands to be treated as such.
It's a matter of respect, they all shared the same amount of screen time on the show and the same amount of dramatic and hard storylines. What's more, Sarah Jessica Parker was the least explicit despite being the main caracther in a show about sex. They all should have made the same money.
I think the writing is so bad, every two seconds is about how old they are, hip replacements, hearing aids, etc. They went from fabulous to depressing. (maybe that's the lesson if you're fabulous in your 30 you will be falling apart in your 50's lol) It's almost like millennials and misogynistic gay men wrote the script. It's hard for me to believe that women in their 60's wrote the script. I mean Candace Bushnell's actual life is more fabulous that Carrie's. Candace has a broadway show right now and is not worrying about podcasts and is at parties in the Hamptons. The show is a mess.
Samantha was always my favorite mostly because she was actually the better friend. But the situation Kim went through is so deplorable. Glad she’s not on that toxic waste of a show now. And she handled it with grace!

I decided not to watch the newest SATC for two reasons, there is no Samantha Jones and enough is enough with SATC…what’s next….do we see them in nursing homes or retirement homes pushing a walker or something? Sometimes you just have to leave well enough alone. The original series was cute and I enjoyed it but after that it was too much! Carrie got Big at the end and that was the best place to leave it so the viewer can use their own imagination as to where the story and characters went! Otherwise it just ruins it imho!
What “beautiful” script are they talking about? The disastrous reboot is somewhat based on the 3rd movie script minus the Samantha story. If the leaked scripts are true Brady supposed to have a crush on Samantha and she supposedly flirted back, if it’s true it’s more than disgusting, no wonder Kim didn’t want any part of it. This dreadful reboot with atrocious writing and terrible acting just proves that Kim made the right decision. Money is not everything.
I recall Kim had reflected during an interview after the SATC second movie that there was nowhere else to take the Samantha character, hence SATC 3 never happened. Just like real life, the characters would need to grow and mature. Kim is ten years older than all the other girls so it isn't surprising that she felt no incentive to reprise Samantha again because she knew what worked for her character at a younger age would not be attractive present day. It is no surprise that the two movies were not received as well as the original series. Kim is a very good actress and more than likely saw the writing on the wall that the reboot was a very bad idea. Not being a part of this train wreck proved Kim's point. Why would she choose to have her career spiral over some BS reboot that clearly was made for one reason and that was to cash in. I applaud Kim for standing up for herself as her reputation meant more to her than a paycheck.

Kim had her own career compared to Sarah. The only thing I can remember Sarah being in before sex and the city was Annie when she was a kid. Rather Kim was in quite a few movies.
SJP I remembered from 'Girls just wanna have fun' in the 80s, with Helen Hunt, SJP was a horrible actor then too and the other characters made the movie, it was quite popular. Helen Hunt was in a Matthew Broderick film too after that, at the height of his fame after Ferris Beuller, they were all in the same circles when they were young. I remember SJP having a few small or background roles in those 80s movies, not main character roles. She was around after the early 80s brat pack days which had already introduced Kim on a mainstream scale with Andrew McCarthy in Mannequin etc. Definitely Kim had a 'main character movie' career that SJP never had.
This is not true. Sarah Jessica was in " Footloose". She was the lead in her movies " If Lucy Fell" and "Miami Rhapsody". She starred with Bruce Willis, Nick Cage and Johnny Depp in 3 films and was in "Mars attacks" and " Ed Wood" both directed by famed Tim Burton and " Hocus pocus" There is no need to disminish all her hard work for a story no one knows about except the people there.

The first time I saw Kim Catrall on-screen was in this disney movie called Ice Princess where she played a hardcore coach/mom (I was too young to watch satc when it first aired so this was my initial introduction to her as an actress) and I always thought she did a phenomenal job. And that was a completely different character than Samantha Jones! She has so much range.
I knew there was real beef between them after that one scene where Sarah yelled at Kim in a lingerie store... that joint seemed REAL and Kim looked honestly heartbroken. As I watched I wondered if they were having real on set issues
It’s a bitch when the character actress who was the lead ( Parker) character became eclipsed by a more beautiful leading lady playing a comic sexual clown. The character of Sam Jones absolutely was the breathe of fresh air device surrounding the other 3 woman’s rather tense and depressingly neurotic yet hilarious plot lines. Samantha became the levity and cemented the NYC sex addict confident person that is so prominent in NYC. Without her beautiful blonde earthy confidence slicing through escapades while the others were playing out those tensions the show would have been obnoxious. As seasons grew heavier and more intense, Samantha became dominant as a go to for this needed levity. In the end she was everyone’s favorite. Of course she wanted more money. Dorky Miranda , childish and fearful Charlotte and neurotic/ approval desperate Carrie all were very entertaining but Cattrall’s performance along with script was the most satisfying on screen. It was like a drug. Its sad the other three just can’t compete with Cattrall. SJP clearly felt she was the lead and thus should be top dog. Because the script was written that way. But this DOES happen in theatre where a secondary role makes the entire show and everyone falls in love with the performer and goes back again and again for their on stage moments. Consequently the rest of the cast is appreciated, yet not lauded. This is entirely what happened with SATC. I enjoyed the series and all the characters did very well with the material. That said, Kim Cattrall was really kinda everything in those 9 years. The other three were more brittle. The reboot is natural that she isn’t there. Of course she moved to the UK and moved on. People like her always leave the city by 60. The other three were younger and less confident and more invested in NY than Samantha for the answer to everything. Sam Jones was global. No matter where the series went she was that older friend that was wise ON SO many subjects, beautifully tough and full of candor that everyone seeks in a NYC friend/mentor. In short- gold.They should have given everything to Cattrall in any demands she asked for. They would have done the third film and it would have ended.
I rewatched SATC Season 1 to 6. SJP's character is just so irritating at times. I love Samantha Jones and Miranda Hobbs' character. Kim Cattrall is the true SATC Queen. I miss her and Smith. 💜🤍
Its hard to know the full truth, but I am more likely to side with Kim on this. I've been in similar situations - being older than other coworkers who form cliques out of their immaturity and I have to just sit tight and put up with it. I hate that. I get what Kim experienced.
