I love the atmosphere of these types of Diorama, a snapshot of bygone days that sometimes I wish we had back… the tunnel in the first one gives a feeling of depth and imagination not knowing what’s at the end… very good work and detailing 👍🏻
What beautiful layouts! They will inspire and encourage people who don’t have much space to still go ahead and create a layout. The back-scene photos help to give the illusion of a lot more room than there actually is.
As you rightly say these dioramas are pure escapism from modern life and very atmospheric, I particularly like the way you added grass and vegetation among the tracks adding to the realism, I admire you guys and the patience it must take… thank you for sharing
Very nice Chris. Love the touch of the Ivo Peter's car on the first layout. We have a Grandson with that name, and he had his first ride, on the S&D, behind steam, eight years ago, when he was less than 3 weeks old. How, you may ask? Well I'm a volunteer on the Gartell Light Railway, so it wasn't difficult!
Stunning. I love the sense of depth created using the photographic backscene on sticky backed plastic. Sticky backed plastic and Fairy Liquid bottles, those were the days. Love the tongue in cheek humour. No doubt you listen to Radio 4 at 18.30 for the News Quiz or I'm Sorry I Haven't A Clue. Mrs Trellis of North Wales will be pleased. The Friary van is nice local touch. Unlike the awful Friary Centre, that replaced the brewery, with it's depressing bus station to the rear. It really is begging to be demolished.
I remember most of these layouts from a magazine some years ago , Model Rail I think . Really impressive and very realistic . What gauge are the layouts ? they look like O gauge !
Thank you sir. Your way of filming let us dream through detailed sceneries. I like the balance of coloris and light and as setting with n visible adjustment. In the box, sceneries, seem a nice concept. A success. Congratulations.
Technically I don't think they can be classed as layouts as such, more like diarama's , but the standard of modelling and the realism is superb. Puts many so called show layouts to shame.
Beautiful work - especially like Combwich - great amount of detail in such small layouts really adds to the realism, nice to see video of these little gems, thanks for sharring !
It wouldn't be the S&D without Ivo's Bentley. And great to see the Yankee tank on Brew Street. We have 2 on the KESR, though only one is generally in use at present.
love the layouts it what started me of doing a small n gauge layout on an ironing board do keep up the amazing layouts and skills and love to see more of you on you tube.
Came back to watch this again....nostalgia is the word that comes to mind as I grew up in the Wirral where coal trains and passenger traffic with 2-6-2s were the normin the 50s,,,
Wow now these layouts have some of the best scenery I've ever seen, a real inspiration. Added to my favourites for future reference. Thanks for sharing. Regards Paul
Beautiful attention to detail. I love the wooden platform with weeds growing underneath. It really ads depth to the layout and makes it look different to everybody else's.
I love the S & D theme especially the "Bridgewater" terminus. Sadly I never saw it and it is long gone. You have the essence of the Somerset levels. I like the back scenes you have done.
It fits in around my photography business which is my main thing. I only choose jobs within my skill set. P4 would drive me mad tbh. I can pick and choose.
Small models, fast builds. I use the same philosophy. Can try a lot of different ideas then. Brewery name is great - nice when it relates to something, even if the beer's awful lol. I wonder if you've ever modelled a 'nice' pub to visit? :-) Cheers, Laurie
Doctor Micro Layouts, please, when you next do some sketches, would you sketch me a layout?!! I just can't visualise it - 8' x 2' at my disposal, baseboards already made and crying out for summat! Midland/NE (shared) Branch Line terminus would be lovely! Thank you. Superb layouts, as always!
By the way, mentioning "Lidl", an idea of a "Now - Then" micro Layout would be an idea. Showing the late 50s and then the 2000s but the same plot with part structures from the 50s made into new buildings/extended, and the terrain practically unrecognisable bar a few tell tale, prominent, bits.
Wow.... just found you....fantastic modelling.....love the crossing cottage so similar to one that used to exist near where I live.....once again fabulous modelling....fred......nice voice and narrative!
it's OK to dream dreaming is a wonderful thing. That's one thing no one can ever take from you you appear to me to be an artisan of the railroad it's a beautiful thing. I do sincerely appreciate your video very inspiring it's OK to dream❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ God bless be safe
What a lovely collection Chris. Ours is still in the planning stage and having measured the car! measured the Summerhouse! and the time to build! Are ready to start! Keep it simple said, Maggie and Gordan, as I extracted our gatecrashing Daughter who went missing during a visit to Pendon. We later went on a morning of fun with her which was enjoyed by all. Many layouts are too serious so the odd visit to see the Madder Valley run is superb. Just up the line from us in Reading! Best regards. David Lily and Katie (10)
Cracking to see you making videos again Chris. I absolutely love your work and reading your articles, they provide some ace inspiration. I'd have to say your my favourite modeller so i'm looking forward to seeing more. All the best
Just discovered this video and am pleased it brings together a number of your creations I have read of in magazines over the years. Fantastic level of detail and use of colour brings believable realism. Thanks for the show
this is all exactly what i would do if i had the time or money. Amazing little dioramas! No need for them to run - mine is the same [although I only have ONE!]. ALL so realistic though.
Yes, that IS how Somerset in the 50's looked. You have captured it very well indeed. Really nice layouts, ( yes, LAYOUTS, not diarama's ) and plenty of inspiration for aspiring modelers, like me, with limited space available.
Ha, love the idea of 'keyboard warrior monthly' great looking layouts mate, as always, very impressive. You certainly have developed a style. Much like now famous artists and their famous pieces hanging in galleries, it's possible to stand, looking at a layout and say "that's a Nevard"
I hazard a guess that you are now too busy with your profession for the introduction of “yet another” creation?! However, these are timeless pieces and, I for one, feel an air of nostalgia wave over me when watching and imagining being there at the real time of the pieces you create, Chris, such is the realism you create...........is there a “new” one in the pipeline?! Best wishes, Bob
