Hi Rick, I'm from Brazil and I've lived in Swanage for four maravilous years until november 2018. Thanks a lot to show me the small city I still love. Lots of emotions I felt seeing your video. Hope to go back someday.
Great vid mate absolutely love swanage went there for many years as a kid (48 now) holds so many lovely memorys! my kids now love the place too so as soon as the vans built we'll be heading down there as much as possible once agian great film rick! 👍👍👍👍
I enjoyed that day out mate, and I didn’t even leave the house 😂. You do seem to get tempted a lot ha ha. You must have done nothing but eat there growing up 😂. Awesome you found your Dad’s plaque, next time you’ll have to find your sisters. I need to go and do a day like that soon. I think we are planning a trip to Dawlish Warren soon for the day so that will be good. Thanks for taking us along :).
It's definitely one of the plus points of getting older that you become less self concious and care less about what other people think. in fact you realise that if they do have an opinion, it says more about them than it does you. I really enjoy these type of videos Ric!
Thanks Rick for bringing back hapy memories, I lived down that neck of the woods for few months about 25 years ago , staying in my cheap 2 berth caravan at Nordon farm camp site , next to Corfe Castle, loved it.....
Stumbled across your channel by accident...an unexpected pleasure! I often visit Swanage on my motorbike, as I live in Poole. As you say it's like hitting the reset button! Thanks...subscribed.
Really enjoyed this one Rick, your like a super hero . Good on you for braving it like that filming on your own takes a certain mood I can imagine, I've been watching your videos for a good few years now also addicted to the honest guys channel you own. And yes your van is the bomb and your riding eight foot up and I for one am glad because you have earned it fair and square. Cheers again Rick
Great video Rick. I stayed in Swanage on a school trip back in 1977. This has brought back so many memories. We fished for crabs in exactly the same spot.
what a good idea for the plaques rick-glad you finally found your dads!i'm going to appreciate our local beaches more-they are only ten mins away in the car compared to your two and a half hours!glad you enjoyed your trip out and it has rejuvinated your soul! xx
Always great to see your vlogs Rick. I too love the sea and it is cathartic just to look out into the waves and just mentally disappear and come back feeling refreshed and invigorated. Nice one Rick.
Loved The walkaround! Brought back so many memories. Sadly I haven't been in years and my partner has never been at all so I am planning to take her to my favorite beach somewhen this year. Hopefully soon now the lockdown is over and its getting nice and sunny. 😊
A very good Video Rick. I have never seen Swanage until now and it was great to have a look around with you. I love the laid back, relaxed vibe in your vlogs. Great work !!! I agree more like this would be fantastic. 😊👍
Much enjoyed rick ,you were almost on my door step in good old Weymouth. Hope your staying well these days .....good to see you enjoying your new Van .👍👏
Hi Rick, Great day at the coast. Very nice area, and it is always nice when there aren't too many people around. I enjoyed the video, Have a great rest of the day. 😀
Well done Rick!. So glad you got out and recharged!. Looks a lovely place, but like anything popular will get crowded. You picked a perfect day. A wimpy !!!! Didn't know they still existed! I remember when I was younger the wimpy in the town centre, long before the dreaded Mc you know what took over. What a lovely idea that was about the plaques when building the pier. Glad you got your paddle. Woolworths! Pic and mix and getting your school uniforms lol. Such a shame they've gone. Hope you get back soon and thanks very much for sharing with us. :). Pat
Loved watching this vid. I used to go scuba diving in Swanage along the pier you walked down. Used to park in a car park just up from the pier entrance above the green small park area you can see from the prom/beginning of the pier. Happy days.
So glad that you did this, it is amazing how easily something to simple can change your whole frame of mind. Having spent several years living next to the sea, I’ve been missing it something awful recently. I’ve been listening to sea sounds at night to get to sleep but the weather has been so bad that taking the trip hasn’t been worth it. However, after watching this, I think this weekend I need to cancel some other plans and make time to take a trip to the coast.
Am I odd, but I love visiting seaside towns in winter when everything is quiet and closed, really enjoyed this video, gentle melancholy. Rick, thank you.
Hi Rick, been watching some of your Larp vids and now I see you’ve done one on my home town! The shop you tried looking for with the Lara Croft outside was chalked ‘just looking’ and unfortunately no longer exists. It was great though, one of my faves, kind of like walking into a hoarders attic. My mums shop is also in swanage so next time you visit pop into the curiosity shop and say hi from me. Keep up the good work.
This brought back fond memories for me of my first trip to Swanage back in June 2018. I had quite an adventure over those 4 days during my stay & i fell in luv with the place ❤ Going back to Dorset again next July 😊
That was a really delightful and enjoyable vlog Rick - almost like being there with you. Interesting to see that you have a long standing love of the Swanage area, as my family all live in Dorset (Corfe, Weymouth & Bournemouth). But like you I am also ‘land locked’ - so know exactly what you mean about returning to the sea every so often. ATB, Andy
Two of my favourite places in the world. Haven't been in 20 years since moving to Sweden. A friend kept a little sailboat in the car park at Studland. There used to be a lay by at the top of the hill on the Corfe road just out of Studland were, back then, you could park up your van for the night, probably not now anymore though. Thanks for the memories.
thanks for the video rick . I was born and bred in swanage but left just over 20 years ago . The place hasn't really changed much , johns toy shop ?? i remember buying britains toys from they 30 plus years ago !! i worked on the quay straight from school on the little speed boats , maybe you remember them ?? thanks again from northern Canada :)
I really enjoyed that Rick great video, haven't been to the seaside in years :/ cant believe you actually found your dads plaque amongst that lot, awesome!! Mum used to take us to woolies for pick n mix at Christmas, then have a shock when we got to the checkout at the price of it lol, memories eh? I think that larp experience has done you good, and I'm sure a lot of people will agree. More of the same please!
Scudo Camper - Variety TV Hi Austin, please let me know when you do visit Swanage. Be really good to meet you. I’ve been following you for a while now on Scudo channel and live your videos. Cheers lee
A very enjoyable video of an area I know well, great to see. I have wild camped ten minutes from where you were on that beach, let me know if you need details.
Swanage is also one of my fave places to visit. Normally take the steam train from Norden to Swanage but didn't get a chance this year. Never been to Studland, that's on the list now. Totally get why you need to get to the coast. As you say, it's resetting the mental switches and in a way, it's a bit like 'earthing' or grounding oneself after built up stress of day to day living.
Great vlog... Know it very well and been going there for 30+ years *scary*. Do you remember the 5ft amethyst they used to have in that crystal shop... And when Dino's was just a caravan lol. Summer campsite up priest way too. Studland is awesome too. Love the area so much I moved to Bournemouth outskirts (more work opportunities). Awesome walks along the cliff tops at Durlston. Thank you for a well executed vid :-)
Never lived far from the North Sea all my life... no more than a couple of miles …… I need to go to the beach/harbour/lighthouse regularly just to feel the fresh air, see the power of the waves...… and scoff some fish and chips. Happy camping!
What a lovely look around, you made me giggle when you kept saying you were tempted by the pastry, I never knew there were any wimpy left, I agree far superior than the ones that are around today:)
Great video pal me and my family absolutely love swanage we have some really good friends that we know that moved there 10 years a go so we visit them every year or so I want to live there but it's expensive we are looking at a lodge for the time being
Hey Rick, was brought to your channel through this fine video. Seems you like me have great affection to Swanage area. It’s just a shame that the fish restaurant on the stone quay has been changed, I remember the live lobsters . I would have had fish and chips on your visit. Have you ever been to Toms Field campsite? There is room for you size van.. super site . I micro camp in my Citroen Berlingo with an Amdro Bootjump conversion drop in unit.. much better than Tent. You have a new subscriber , Cheers! Simon. Malvern uk.
Great video Rick. I live just down the road in Poole. If you're down this way again try baiter park at poole, it has a special motorhome car park with long bays right on the harbours edge and a short walk to poole quay.
Hey Rick maybe a day trip to Studlands as nice weather coming up soon, a wonder a long the beach might do you the world of good as you clearly enjoyed it and it is the best beach there is.
Its the same as Penzance, closed for the winter. Took some family hols in Swanage, we used to stay up the other end self catering at Highcliffe Road on the corner with Ulwell Road.
Used to go every year in the 90s . Need to go next year. Excellent walking. Random fact, I saw my first ufo there flying over the sea right over my head about 150 foot up. It headed up the valley towards corfe
great video although i am in agreement best to visit coast on sunny day. I also enjoy all weather ie winter , winds , rain. If you can get into that mind-set i feel the longing for the sea will be with you all-year-round. look forward to the next "sea" related video
You could pick a couple of seashells from the beach to bring home with you. Visual object reminds us of certain places we have visited even though we may no longer be there as much as we wanted in person.
I'm only 20-30 mins from the coast, btw, i noticed a 5 bed house in the next road to me sold for 160K (purple homes, 5 bed maesteg, select 'sold' ), porthcawl from around 165K (though there are some seafront properties in the millions) Also, as you know from Aberyswyth there's nices sunsets over the water. porthcawl can be as quiet in the spring and late summer as swanage is now Am i hinting again ? :D I checked on Swanage parking, something to do with being over 1.5 tons is the reason they don't allow vans etc on the front (though i would imagine that's an excuse not to have a load of campers cooking etc)
