I am the mother of a fireman. I am so impressed and proud of him. not everyone can become a fireman. It takes a special kind of person that can put himself in danger for the safety of a stranger.

Not sure I'd like to put in a 24-hour shift. The US certainly does things differently to us Brits. Here our firefighters put in two consecutive day shifts from 9am to 5pm, and then they put in two consecutive night shifts from 5pm to 9am. Then they have four whole days off.

It may take him 40 seconds to put on his gear, but he doesn't need to put on his gloves and his helmet before rolling out the door

I work as a fire truck driver. A Russian fireman is required to wear a fireman’s clothes in 20 seconds. The firefighter must be fully dressed, in a helmet, jacket, pants and boots, except for gloves. Departure of a fire truck from a fire station should take no more than 35 seconds. But the fire truck only responds to fires and accidents.
