Very nice photos at the end! I just started doing bird photography and got some good photos of the Great Egret last week in Australia. This one had a almost rainbow colored mouth. Enjoying the videos!!

Thanks, I'm glad you enjoyed it. I have been doing bird photography for many years and I still enjoy it. I'm starting to do more and more video to give my viewers a view into how these birds go about day to day activities to just survive. Being a wild bird or animal is not easy when you are part of the food chain. Some birds have to struggle just to survive. I try to capture that in my photos and videos plus I try to show how beautiful wildlife can really be. Sometimes you have to show a bird or animal up close to really appreciate how beautiful and amazing they really are. Thanks for watching.

During the drive what happens when an alligator decides he needs a nap in the drive? Do we call game and fish or wait him out?

I have been there many times and never had this happen. Cars scare the gators more than people so they don’t normally sleep on the road. If one does, your car would normally scare him back into the water. They normally sleep on the opposite side of the canals where there are no cars. This is not to say you won’t see one crossing the road but during the day it’s not very often.

I'm on holiday in Florida at the moment and brought some camera gear for wildlife. Do you know of any locations that has guides to assist me on my journey to photograph birds ? any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Peter, There are a few places that have trams that will take you around some of the parks but they normally only run on weekends. They don't work all that well for photography but if you see something you want to take a picture of the tram will not normally wait for you. They are okay for snapshots but not for serious photography. I always walk so I can stay as long as I like in one location. Lake Apopka Wildlife Drive, which was the subject of this video, is great. You can drive the 11 miles in your car and stop as often and as long as you like. I get out of my car and walk around an area and then drive to the next one. Black Point Drive in Titusville, FL is also excellent during migration season and you can do the same thing there but be sure to get your car off to the side so people can pass whenever you stop. Viera Wetlands close to Melbourne, FL is the same although it has not been very productive the last few years. You have to walk Orlando Wetlands but it is also good during migration season. Ft. Desoto Park in St. Petersburg, FL is also excellent for shore birds. Circle B Bar Reserve in Lakeland, FL is excellent as well. If you want to see alligators, go to Lake Apopka or Circle B. There are plenty of them in both locations. I have made videos on all of these locations. Are you looking for a person to hire to take you to these locations or do you just want information about some of the locations to go in Florida?

what lens(es) did you use for the still shots?
@RCScottPhotography

Techno Xtreme - I used either the Canon 400mm f/5.6 L prime or the Canon 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6 L IS II lens. Pictures were taken on more than one visit to Lake Apopka. Camera was a Canon 7D Mark II. Video was shot in 4K using a Panasonic GH4. Thanks for watching.

Well gees, that sounds like a lot of fun. Walk down the trail and you risk your, your children's and pet's lives..I think it is just too risky and who could possibly relax knowing a gator could jump out the bushes at any moment..I think viewing by car is a much safer bet for this lovely and rejuvenated area..

I'm not going to tell you not to worry about alligators because they can be dangerous. You just have to use common sense when you are in wetland areas where gators are present. Obviously, don't go swimming, which is not allowed anyway and don't let your pets out of the car. Some wetlands in Florida don't allow pets for this reason. It is rare for an alligator to attack humans but it does happen. Mainly children because they are small. I have been around alligators all my life and if you just don't try and get close to them for a selfie or something stupid they will leave you alone. They are as scared of you as much as you are of them. They will generally run away from people when you get close but don't ever try to get close and you will be safe. They are not just sitting in hiding waiting for you to pass and then grab you. Don't be afraid to enjoy wetlands because you are afraid of alligators. You can't drive all of them . Some you have to walk and with common sense you have nothing to worry about. I have done it for many years and never had an incident with a gator. Thanks for watching.

If you use good sense and don’t get too close gators are no problem. They are not pets so respect them, give them space, and there will be no issues.
