1983. I was a second engineer in 90000ton tanker. Now. the engine room is clean and more high tech stuff. I am retired now. but I miss that time a lot. marine engineer life is my life. Good job.

Huge respect to you sir, i've always admired Engineers' skills and i believe it is much more difficult than Deck side.

KS Yu hi sir how can I get job there
@hunter1029016

The best way is to go to a school for the maritime industry and get your USCG license in either deck or engines. The you can sail commercially.

Our family used to take the car ferry to Victoria BC, and when I was a young lad, when we were walking from the car to the restaurant on the ferry I would walk by a door to the engine room. Heat billowing out, guys talking, tool sounds, and I thought when I grow up, I want to work in the engine room of a huge ship. Sadly that never came true, but I am a mechanic that works on much smaller things...cars! Thanks for the excellent video!

2 things: 1) It's apparent that you & your crew-mates take great pride in your ship because of the cleanliness and organization. and 2) The video music on this one was perfect. Thanks Jeff.

I’ve got to say, I did not even know I was interested in how big ships like that worked. Excellent production quality, even if not for learning about ships, there are definitely amazing filming techniques and transitions to learn from, along with the concise explanations and flow.

I work as a Gas turbine Technician on a destroyer. It gets hot in the engineroom. Very similar equipment we use; lavap purifiers for fuel and lube oil, coalescers, air compressors etc.
@alidycepaisley3829
@alidycepaisley3829 3 года назад
I'm surprised at the need for air compressors what with a gas turbine producing power. Usually the low or high pressure compressor sections can be tapped for charged bleed air and they've got plenty of that to spare.

Great video Jeff. I just can't believe the size of the crew. I am on a 619 feet × 84 feet, 17000 long tons displacement ship and we have 120 people in engineering alone. Your ship is much larger.

Jeff, this is a an awesome video. It's informative and the quality of the videography is superb! thanks so much for making this. If you have the time and inclination, it would be super cool to do individual videos for each system (i.e. power generation, hydraulic systems, fuel systems, etc.). there is so much fascinating stuff going on in the engine room, it would be amazing to be able to learn more - and your video style would it that more fun and informative. anyway, keep up the great work. You just earned another subscriber. Thanks!

Well put together video, a bit humour injected to make it appealing. Good introduction to a career at sea. I've had more years at sea ( engineer officer) than I care to remember. For a career for life chose navigation. For a career where you skills are sought after ashore go engineering, There will always be work for you and you get paid to see the world! Continue with the videos they make excellent viewing.

Stumbled upon your video's after seeing your (incredible!) 30 day time lapse. I have no affinity with ships, container or otherwise, but I cant stop watching. Someone said this was better than NatGeo, and its true. Beautifully shot, professionally edited, interesting content, some good humor. I almost feel like you're wasting talent by sailing on ships, but, well, as long as you do both :)
@JeffHK
@JeffHK 7 лет назад
+P44man better than natgeo 😱 i am flattered haha
@P44man
@P44man 7 лет назад
Its hardly an exaggeration, as natgeo is getting pretty unwatchable with all the over-dramatization. I much prefer your style video, just tell it like it is. Quick question about the time lapses: how did you set your camera exposure? I see no flickering, and it goes from day to night seamlessly. Full manual, or aperture priority and removed the flicker in post processing?
@JeffHK
@JeffHK 7 лет назад
+P44man alot of latest dslrs have exposure stepping mode for interval shooting so that it slowly adjust exposure. the only time i have to make adjust manually is sunset sunrise when i have to switch aperture and iso to compensate Most are done A priority, with exception to pitch dark nights
