My favourite Rover and had the pleasure of seeing and hearing a 1986 Vitesse SD1 in silver for all the years I have lived here since I moved into my street in 1998 belonging to a guy who lived at the end of my street and used his as a daily driver in all that time up until a few years ago now when he had to give up driving due to a heart attack - his Rover now with a member of his family elsewhere in my town. Never owned a Rover but my favourite car is the 1980 Austin Allegro 1750 TC Equipe I owned in the 1980's unfortunately lost in an accident or I would still have owned that car today.
Absolutely gorgeous. Great engine & exhaust sounds too. Love the colour. It really suits the car. I remember when these were new and I lusted after one. The Rover SD1 must be one of the most beautiful cars of its era and possibly ever. And what a stunning example this is. Well done.
Saloons made among the end of' '70 and beginning of '80 are best looking at to me. Hi from northern Italy where that nice Rover was not so rare to see.
Hi from 🇬🇧 You should be very proud to have an SD1 in such nice condition. In 1986 I bought a 1982 sd1 2300s manual in red with a sunroof 18' 000 miles and 1 Bank manager owner. At 21 years old I thought it looked the dogs danglies😊.
Wow! It´s gorgeaus! and the sound of it makes it even better. I took my 1978 3500 SD1 for a short but nice spin today and it runs perfectly. Never ever gona sell her either! Cheers from Sweden!
My dad had one from new. He had 3 in total, lovely cars. So comfortable. They ran like a dream. Reputation for unreliable. But the three he had never had any problems whatsoever. You car is a beautiful example, so envious. I would love one like this. Such a beautiful looking car and a lovely car to drive
The car is an absolute credit to you. it's great to see a fantastic example if an SD1 on the road. Once mine is finished, I plan to drive over to Germany 👍
Absolutely beautiful. We had those here in South Africa I remember we took one for a test drive once lots of smooth power my dad almost bought it. I also remember they used the Avengers actors in the ad campaign for this car. The Avengers was a popular British action TV series in the 70s/80s.
What an ab-so-lute stunner. My dad drove a VandenPlas in this spec and color followed by a blue, manual transmission Vitesse. I actually still have the die-cast Matchbox scale model of a VandenPlas in this color I got as a present from the dealer (Misker in Emmen) when the car was delivered. Trots als een aap met zeven lullen 😉😊
Looks great, I love these cars. The paint looks perfectly good from what we can see on video, so perhaps leave it, especially as it is original. Excellent work on the jobs you've already done on it.
Thanks for the compliments! Yeah the paint does have some shine about it. Most of it is original (i know for a fact that the roof has been painted along with the tailgate. But for now it is fine. Cheers and thanks again!
Absolutely fantastic V8 rover I had two of them through the 1980s first one was a V8 SE and my second one was the V8 Vitesse one of the best cars I’ve owned and I’ve owned a lot of cars since I passed my driving test in 1973 from my first car a Mini Cooper to range rovers
Schitterende auto.... Een jongensdroom. Herinneringen aan eerste vakanties bij vrienden in de UK, midjaren '80, als klein petrolheadje, keek ik mijn ogen uit. SD1 is me altijd bijgebleven. Altijd een zwak voor Britse auto's gehouden. Geniet ervan.... 😊
Thanks. Yeah I think most people admire leather without really appreciate proper velours. To bad really because in this motor it is so chique and comfy. Yes it is!
@@marc80sroverfan95 Danke. Der Vanden Plas ist so wunderschön👍🏻, mein Vater hatte ihn genau so in der Farbe. Das war 1989 ca. Ich wünsche alles Gute für Sie und Ihren Rover allzeit gute Fahrt.
Cheers. Haha the correct side you mean. 😅 It is great to drive indeed. A a 2600 also very nice to drive when they are in good order. That is an impressive millage.
Hah, they moved, when I was there it was definately Katwijk a/d Rijn or maybe Valkenburg. Like I said, many years ago, mid to late 80's. Very nice car by the way.
* Have just done a quick "Gov.U.K" vehicle check on your car, to see "if" it still survives It most likely does, because.... "MOT Vehicle C175CJO does not have a valid MOT certificate" [Unquote] Expired: 26 March 2016 0 It also says current status S.O.R.N - statutory off road (bollocks) so it's laid up I so wish more of them survived, esp' my personal favourite, the P.6
@@marc80sroverfan95 Thanks! I know in the past it stopped some people running large engine vehicles Is there a year when a low tax break is permitted; here in UK no car tax is paid over 40years old
They should of let the Australians have the SD1 instead of the P6. The Australian arm of BL would of developed the SD1 further for Ozzy conditions and probably make it better than the UK version, rather than waste development money on the P6. The SD1 was likely the car most urban Australians would of wanted if it were allowed to be further developed and built there, modern sleek looks, a V8, futuristic well packaged interior, nice handling, hatch back practicality and quite refined. Although it may still of been too small bodied for many Australian tastes back then 🤔.
@@nk53nxg also I believe the recently aborted Rover P8 would have been perfect for Australia! (As the SD1 came out 3 years after the P76!) Rover P8 was the perfect style and size for the Australian Market! Why BMC-Leyland Australian didn’t steal the tooling for the P8 instead of going alone with it’s disaster P76 is anyone’s guess!
@@mervynstent1578 sorry I meant the P76 not P6. I love the P6 with its quirky Citroen DS inspired body construction. The P8 could have gone to Australia, especially after they spent millions on tooling up for it just for it all to go in the bin.
,Lovely example. I owned a near-new '81 V8 in New Zealand, and the 2600 manual as well. Both were terribly made, and I was pleased to drop them. after my '77 XJ6. Sorry, but the assembly was awful, and the excellent concept was let down by quality control. Glad that the owner has at least got one good one....
A lovely example, they had the potential to be a great car car but cost cutting, union action and poor workmanship let the car down drastically. A tried and tested Buick Jetfire engine that Buick wanted back after a while but Rover wanted too much money and the American public still didn't trust aluminium engines at that time.
Nitro Silvia has been restoring a diesel SD1 for a long time...of course stopped when this scam demic was pushed onto the world but you can see his videos on that on his channel up until he stopped.
