I got the soft round Nitram in mail and wow it is what I like! It disappears twice as fast though so save it for the blackest parts. Got very used to the B now. It took time and sharpening more often but hardly any dust. Besides it was the first time working in charcoal in ages. Also git my one sided razor blades to sharpen. Found an eraser called Vanish. In the mail. Ha ha. Found a mechanical kind that’s a thin rectangle ...Tombow? in the mail.... Thinking of using cheese cloth when I blend some places. I have a bunch of it. Never used paint brush before. It’s perfect. Can still see the grain
Your videos all speak volumes and this one its especially true. When I really got serious about my art, I convinced myself that to create as a master does I need to have the most expensive supplies because of course that's what they use. I learned this is not the case and seeing you cutting your own drawing glove and using a nut and string for a plumb line reminded me if that. Wonderful video as always 😁👍
Very interesting, cutting out a glove to use on my drawing hand so as not to smudge my work. I’m definitely going to try that. I don’t think I could use a pencil with such a long lead. I know I’d wind up breaking it. Maybe I’ll try anyway.
Florent, what on Earth are the mirrors for exactly? I’m completely intrigued, why do you have several? Now I’m off to search the house for pencils to whittle!!
3:55 AHHHH! WHY? you coulda kept the pencil dust and used it for drawing. i could imagine maybe dipping a brush in some of that and using it for filling large areas, or even dipping a finger or tissue etc ya know.
Would someone mind explaining what the mirrors and plumb line are for? They're mentioned but I'm brand new to all of this so I haven't the faintest clue (except maybe self portraits for the mirrors?)
The materials I recommend: Pierre noire from Conté de Paris ( charcoal with more clay making it harder) Oil pitt from Faber Castell ( smth like graphite with oil in it, perfect because doesn’t leave the traces on hand! ) Charcoal in pencil from Faber Castell
i think those cheap staedler pencils (which we all had at school, and i still love) have a nice hard core, so are more suited to this. and make sure you dont drop them or bang them. the amount of pencils ive broken just cuz i dropped it and it shattered all the lead, so i'd sharpen it and it'd just fall out bit by bot, would drive me nuts. especially with coloured ones. You called always try a builders pencil sharpener. i have one and if i use it for regular pencils instead of the flat builders ones, theres a hole in the end that theres no blade on, and it removes all the wood but will leave the lead to poke through and get longer as long as you hold it at a good angle. its really handy.
That’s how I sharpen my pencils lol was taught this method back in my first year of high school by our art teacher - I remember panicking thinking your damaging the pencil and art pencils were not cheap lol. But after being taught how to do it it was like an epiphany my young eyes were opened.
