Just a quick update - I am not going to paint the bureau! I have had so many comments about it and I really love that so many of you are passionate about historical preservation! (Although this particular cabinet is a reproduction piece made in the 90's) Thank you so much for all the lovely comments and messages!
Hi Nicolas, can you give me the paint color on the walls and the designer of the paint. I can quite understand the name. Thanks lisa in California.❤️🙏🏻
It's wonderful that a young man is old school. Who would not like to be invited to his home. I think he blends his older friends with younger who enjoy beautiful things and a elegant life.
Would love to be invited to his home as well and have afternoon tea with Nicolas! Wonderful young man and so happy I found his channel! Good luck Nicolas with your channel I wish you all things good!
I agree...this world needs some class, everything has gone so vulgar...We need this, and Im betting he feels he was born in the wrong time. I can relate. Love this.
I don’t think you are a cheap person. I think you are a person with an extremely good sense of style, elegance, and beauty. You also seem to be very creative and artistic, and use that to make everything look better than what they are. I only recently discovered your channel and instantly became a favourite of mine after watching just a few of your videos. :) Now I will continue watching, since I paused the video to write this. :D
@@NicolasFairford 🌟It is kind & most helpful of you to be up front about your more bargain finds as well as show off tricks of trade to improve them. 🤔Many of us are not natural decorators. Nor do we always fully understand our own aesthetic. Or, even how design principles can instantly improve the feel of a space when followed. You clearly adhere to several guidelines -- like in your room lay-out & also how you tend to group like objects together (in 3s & 5s). Your space, however, is definitely not textbook📚. Your sitting room has life & vivacity to it. 😁We appreciate all the encouragement, education, & tips on how to mix newer cast-offs with old (not necessarily antique) pieces. Most of us who need to stretch our 💰dollars long for beautiful spaces, but don't always know exactly how to get there. What things we should 💲splurge💲 on -- & what we could 💲save💲 on. Appreciate your suggestion on how to style low-end pieces for a high-end look. 😆Hate when decorators are quick to toss out 🗑 beloved items to fit a certain hot theme or look. Prefer some items w/"dinge" &/or history attached to them (esp. your own). 😘So, thank you for being candid about your collection & personal process. Good to know that beauty can be achieved by smart choices made gradually over time. ☮💛🌼 from LA.
Olivia, I agree. Modernity has its place as well, but it's become so ubiquitous as so be excessively uniform and thus boring. Everyone we know wants their home to look the same as everyone else. My husband and I also appreciate a more timeless style, not necessarily antique but at least inspired by the shapes, textures, and motifs of the past. There's more character in that, and it's more warm and inviting. The excessive modernity at the moment seems like people trying to keep up with trends meant to superficially impress. A channel such as this one is long overdue!
A lot of people cannot simply understand that taste and quality of life has nothing to do with being wealthy. It is matter of clever choices and an ability to see potential in items and not afraid to experiment with them. Lovely parlor and living space as well :)
@@NicolasFairford This is quite late, but here's my 2 cents. For the cupboard, line the inside with wallpaper to give it a facelift without erasing that gorgeous wood stain. You can even make interchangeable looks by applying fabric or wallpaper to thin, reinforced cardboard that you cut to the size of each section of the backboard, and secure in place with double-sided vinyl tape. As for giving the rest of the room an edge, textiles are key! Hunt online marketplaces for a statement rug or drapes, and pair with a coordinated throw or decorative pillows , and voila! Interior Design is my hobby and your home is gorgeous so I'd be happy to offer more advice! I could help decorate all day, every day.
How wonderful to hear all the charming stories behind the lovely pieces in your home. The landscape painting is beautiful. I love the burled wood finish on your cabinet...so warm, and not easy to find...I would be sad to see it painted black. You are very talented with these new video ventures...I look forward to seeing more of them!
You are not cheap. You are smart and with a great sense of appreciation for things. We all should practice having more appreciation for the things we have. Sending you blessings and good energy.
You are not a cheap person. You know style very well. Your home looks like a home of an old rich person. So classy. Genius! Make more videos, please. Thank you.
Spending your money wisely on things I think makes it more interesting. The way you decorate is so high class and beautifully done that no one would notice. Much Love
Its so peaceful to see your videos.you belong to this generation but your classic style brings to life the beautiful past which most of us have forgotten in the race for modernity.Thank you.God bless.
You are lovely! I'm so glad I discovered your channel. I love your classic taste! When everyone is going modern or jumping on the latest trends, it is refreshing to see someone who appreciates a classic design because it is still beautiful!
I love that your pieces have stories ! Am old and have moved a lot so all of my things have stories also-I feel it grounds me somehow to remember how I acquired this or that, who I was with and how I was feeling at that time. Enjoyed your video and your talent.
Nicolas thank you for a tour of your beautiful living room. I love that you enjoy books and magazines. Oh I love your doggie! Thanks for sharing your home with us. You take care.
Beautiful - I love how you showed us that it doesn’t have to cost a lot. And when you transform a piece it’s so much more original + so much more character !
Hi Nicolas, I just watch you beautiful, classy home tour. I like your multi purpose table and the way you painted it. I have an old table that's in need of a make over, I now know what I'm going to do. Thank Darling your so charming. Classy and calm.
I love your living room and the way you present it. If the rest of your home is as impressive as your living room, I hope you would consider showing other rooms in your home. Thank you for being such a good collector.
What a breath of fresh air you are?? Young, elegant, tidy and extremely stylish !!!!! I said young because a lot of young people don’t live like you. Yes please do not repaint the bureau. Everything in your room is very chic and impressive. In fact when I saw you in your other video I thought you were rolling in money. It is nice to know that what you need is a good sense of style the rest will follow. Well done and keep it up 👍
I very much enjoy your channel. I'm an American and live in Florida but am a self-proclaimed Anglophile. Britain is gorgeous, and I've always liked Staffordshire dogs and chintz covered furniture and curtains. I came across your channel randomly and am now obsessed. Keep up the good work. You're so inspirational and talented with classic style. In a world currently obsessed with Mid-century Modern, you're very refreshing. Cheers
You are such a gem! I just found you on RU-vid. It's so nice to know that there are still some who appreciate beautiful, timeless decor. I don't care for modern, unless it's with an eclectic mix of period pieces. You have great style! Thank you for putting these videos together. I'm really enjoying them!
I just recently discovered your channel and am absolutely delighted with your good taste and sensitivity. Thank you for embracing the mission of sharing with us how to make life more beautiful ❤️
Beautiful room. I actually love your desk/cabinet the way it is. Such a lovely piece. And, I have a thing for TVs as well. Can’t stand them in my living room or bedrooms. When my son was a teenager I converted one of my upstairs bedrooms into a tv/game room. He had video games and all manner of clutter attached to the tv! When he had guests they could play, eat, and lounge in there. Close the door and viola!
Thank you Nicholas for another lovely video. I am binge watching all of them now as I just found your channel this week.I love that everything isn’t just purchased from a store and that everything has a story and that you have a hand in creating the beautiful things that are in your flat. Best wishes from Hudson New York.❤️💕
Just discovered your channel. I love your apartment and your accent! You are very talented, and cute, too. Have subscribed and plan to binge watch. Best wishes from Florida!
I love the room! Thank you so much for the tour! I'm glad you decide not to paint the cabinet. I deeply admire your love for those special things around you, everything tells a story. It's magical!
Love your videos Nicolas - love your style ! Can you share the name of the flora book you’re using ? Looks fabulous - can’t wait to see the final framed prints !
I’m just like you is so many ways Nicolas. I collected interior magazines for about 15 years and every time I went to get rid of them I’d start looking through them and I couldn’t. I’ve still got them. I started buying them in 1988 when I was 18, they’re English House & Garden, World of Interiors and Architectural Digest and some Country Homes & Interiors. I don’t think I’ll ever get rid of them. Remember, what’s old is new again. I am really enjoying your videos. Thank you, Tim.
Nicolas, I so enjoyed watching a tour of your sitting room. Finally someone else who hates the TV as well ! I'm yet to find a creative way to hide my TV. You have a nice, calm and mature way of presenting which adds class and style to your videos. I too have collected objects throughout my travels and life in general that I enjoy living with. Quality over quantity and only have things that bring you joy I think is best. I look forward to your next videos. Glad I found you. With warm Aloha, Jamie
Love love love your place and your taste in interior decorating. You look like someone who belonged on the show rich and famous. Thanks darling . Have a wonderful weekend 😘💛😘💛
I'm so incredibly relieved you had a change of heart with regards to painting that exquisite piece of furniture .Painting that glorious wood would be sacrilege . Please reconsider loving differing woods and their natural beauty before painting .. Love your channel content, your sense of style and incredibly soothing voice . That room is gorgeous ..
So delightful, I feel inspired to beautify my own space. And thank you for being so candid about budgeting, it show a great deal of humility and relatability
Found your channel today. I fell in love with you and will be watching as often as I can. I absolutely love your living room. It is just my dream room but have never achieved it I am 75 years old in California with a limited income, but you encouraged me to pursue my dream. I love flowers and lace and ribbons, beautiful traditional decor. At 75 I think it is time, don't you? W ish you were my neighbor, I would love just visiting with you. Your friends are blessed.
Nicolas as a new subscriber from Australia I am thoroughly enjoying catching up with all your videos 😍 I love that you can pick up anything in your apartment and tell a story about it it is like having old friends and family around you all the time XX
Books books eveywhere! I love that "mess". It's the soul of the room and inspiration for you. After watching this I'll let my books feel more fluently.
Charming! I wouldn’t paint the piece bc of the lovely wood however, I love the idea of a red piece of furniture. Great taste doesn’t always translate into expensive, your home shows that. Love sharing time with you!
I LOVE your style! So classic and warm and inviting! I also love your voice, it has a soft, soothing vibe, yet very much classy British! I'm so happy you've decided against painting the bureau as I thought the instant I saw it that it's such a beautiful piece that added just the right touch of character to the room! Forgive me..I realize this video is a few months old but I've just come across your channel and am LOVING it! I want nothing more than to be able to visit the UK for an indefinite period and soak up as much history and food as I can possibly take!
How you make the inexpensive pieces all look high-end because of your style! Incredible! And the painting by Rupert Aker...WOW!!! At least now I know the artist's name ;)
I recently bought a beautiful tea set for a dear friend and suddenly your channel was recommended. It's such a joy to watch you. I love your style, the story about the mystery gifts, and that circular room and doors are spectacular! I need a room like this in my future home. :)
What i absolutely love is that you have a history with everything your bringing into your home ! And I'm so thrilled you didn't paint the bureau/desk! If you want a little pop of color, I'd probably would fabric the back behind the shelves. But it looks dynamite the way it is!!!
Lovely tour, Nicolas. 🥂🌿 Yes to keeping the bureau! Magazines...give them to a library exchange, a retirement home or sell to half price books. Many would enjoy your finds.🙏
Nicolas! I VERY much I enjoyed the tour of Tracey’s (I do hope the spelling is correct) home. She and the home is everything you said it would be. She mentioned being in the Detroit area at some point in her life. Many years ago my family had a business in downtown Detroit called BobLo. We had ships that would ferry people to an island (ours) in the Detroit River for a day’s amusement focused on families. My Uncle was for many years the mayor of Grosse Pointe Michigan. We called him Uncle Red, his name was Lorenzo Browning. Your friend seems delightful. Thank you for sharing her and her beautiful home with us. It was an inspiring visit! 🙂
That white pant shade is perfect. It’s hard to find a good white. The painting of your village goes very well with the room. You have great taste and show that even with a relatively budget a room can turn out well.
