In this video, I take a quick look around my UK tropical garden in March, as temperatures start to rise and it looks like the worst of the winter is finally behind us.

Wow what a lot you have in your garden. I am a keen gardener myself but never really experimented with more exotic plants. I look forward to your future videos!

The place looks great mate. My fatsia polycarpa always takes the most damage. The standard one is 15 years old so it's tough as an old boot. Even the spiders web one this year as it's gotten older is holding better form. I like you rostrata, that'll look great when planted. Your plant collection is coming on nicely with plenty of seed grown stuff thrown in. The biggest thing I miss in my garden this time of year is all the purple foliage from my cannas and ensetes. All good things to come...

Thank you. I agree re. the purple foliage - I've propagated so much persicaria red dragon from a single plant that I now have it growing through ever bed to give to contrast. This year I'm adding amaranthus velvet curtains - they have fantastic deep purple flowers and foliage.

I lost a few palms and a bsmboo too. My yuccas have done great no damage,my cordylines are near dead and i'm in south london but our winter was this year so cold.

It's been a costly winter for so many. Really surprised to hear you've lost so much in London. What kind of yuccas do you grow? I'd like to try a few more.

I enjoyed this tour mate thanks for sharing. Your eucalyptus trees have grown so fast! Hope the pollarding goes well. My tetrapanax is identical to yours, the top is about to fall off and it’s squishy until the last inch or so. Well done on keeping the large cordi frost free. I’ll have to see how you protected it. Sorry about the chaemerops spear pulls too…makes you wanna stick to trachys. Have you considered a wagnerianus? They are tough as old boots. Thanks for sharing.

Thank you 🙏 I was looking at waggies earlier funnily enough as I'd like some more varieties of palm. My small chamaerops were all fairly cheap B&Q purchases so easily replaceable, but they're painfully slow growing! Fingers crossed these squishy tetrapanax pull through and start pupping 🤞😄

The Yucca is definitely not Y gloriosa. The trunk is far too thin as well as the leaves. My first guess was Y aloifolia, but the fact it was damaged by not too cold a temp makes me think it might be Y gigantea which is more tender.

Ahh that's interesting as it's the same plant I see sold as a generic 'yucca' in many garden centres and nurseries. Any suggestions for hardier alternatives? Y. filamentosa seems widely available and fairly inexpensive.

@texastropics Год назад
@@greatnorthernexotic I'm not sure how available Yucca are over there but as you have mentioned Y.filamentosa does come in a few different varieties. Others that seem to be more common are Yucca recurvifolia, Y aloifolia, Y gloriosa, Y rostrata, Y elata, Y linearfolia and Y flaccida. Quite a few more on top of that, around here I usually see Y baccata and Y faxoniana on a fairly regular basis. I could name you another half dozen species, but they may be hard to find in the UK.

This is great, thank you. I'll investigate stockists for these as I plan this year's purchases.

Nice, im with you and going to give things a month or two as you never know. Biggest casualty for me looks like one of the bananas, didnt protect it at all though so you reap what you sow and all that..

Fingers crossed they should be root hardy enough to resprout from the base 🤞🤞

Had never heard of that one but just Googling it now and it's gone right to the top of my list - awesome looking foliage!
