Oh my goodness! Kristy! I found a vintage palette today at a thrift shop! I thought of you! I totally scooped it! It’s red white and green and says Fairy Land… looks like 1940’s maybe idk. I’m so happy I can’t stand it! So fun! 🎨♥️

Hey Kristy! I'm enjoying this so much! What a fun trip down Kristy Rice vintage watercolor tin lane! I've seen an earlier video where you shared some of your tins, but you really outdid yourself with this one 🤩 And I ordered your travel brush too. I won't be saving it just for travel 😊Thanks for all you do to keep our creative and fun juices flowing!

How exciting to find someone else who is obsessed with repurposing. I am new to watercolor, but have already found I am going to be completely crazy with putting my paints in every kind of container I can find to create a new palette with. I absolutely love, love, love your collection. Your enthusiasm is contagious and I'm a little afraid this could become a new obsession for me. These are all so wonderful and fun!!! I'm going to have to go online and look up some of these online. I don't get out to thrift stores anymore.

those mini palletes are rhe best !!!!!!!!!!!!! too adorable! i have a few vintage palletes i bought when i had more money, a larger one with pirates that sadly is getting rusty, i will try that killz u mentioned! an adorable super tiny one with a little dutch girl & scotty dog, i think, its in the bottom of my purse I'll have to dig it out to be sure. one large one like you had with the kangaroo and the little kids, the boy painting, and then a circus one with a lion a carasoal(?) however u spell that! and little raised mixing wells with a couple clowns, monkey, elephant on each well. they dont have different paints in them but i keep one in my bathroom to paint in the tub (thats the rusting one ofc!) then one in my room with sennelier only, one in my room with all brands that is my daily one, & one in my purse. i adore vintage palletes and am so glad i snagged a few before they became more popular because i looked at ebay tonight and the prices are outrageous compared to when i got mine!
@MissJanaMac

They lost definitely are, but keep looking because you can come across a steal every once in a while. For example I got a set of refill paint for my Kopy Kat tin for 20 USD.

Fun video. I bought an old beat up palette from the 40s. it was in a pathetic condition, rusty and the paints were unusable. I gave it some TLC and the result is soooo cute. On a different note - I get the 'culturally sensitive thing'. On the other hand it seems weird to look at an iconography from days past with today's eyes. I wonder how our images of today are considered by eyes of the future. I guess today we produce a lot that is cringeworthy in the future when it comes to treating the less fortunate, the elderly, the children, the animals.....
@KristyRice
@KristyRice 6 месяцев назад
I agree. It’s a hard thing for me. I want to admire the past and know that it was a different time but also some imagery just goes knots in my stomach now. So for me it’s just about each individual buying decision and what’s going to make me feel joy when I look at an item :)

Kristy, the "elton john one, I think actually is what they called a 'beat nick" and those sunglasses are on him 'cause they were the cool or neat rather, style for beat nicks, who were often artist, and listened to Jazz, should be a 50's thing.

My favorite was the really big Alice in wonderland! So beautiful! My « white whale » vintage palette is one I saw in a documentary called « Royal Paintbox, artistry of King Charles », at about 33:30 in the RU-vid video. He shows a sketchbook with an integrated metal 8 pan palette, with a space for a brush! Never seen anything like that anywhere else! So practical! But he doesn’t show the front of the book so I don’t know how to find it! 😅great video, Kristy!

Team replay here-I love this idea ever since I started following you Kristy! I bought my first vintage tin a month ago and bought a Donald Duck one because my grandson’s name is Donald Duck! True story! I will be using your drop the magnet in the pan first technique for sure. I can see how these could snowball quickly into a collection because I like so many of them.

Have fun on your European trip! If you happen to visit Brussels, make sure to look up! Seems strange, but we have a lot of street art and interesting architecture, especially Art nouveau 😊 And if you like gardens, I recommend the botanical gardens of Meise (just outside brussels). The one at the center of Brussels is more of a public park now, and the royal greenhouses don’t open to the public until the end of April. Meise has a small castle, greenhouses, art exhibits, lovely ponds… it’s great for inspiration! Can’t wait to see your adventures! And I love the palette tour!

With the shallow watercolour tins that you have instead of using half pants that don’t fit, you could get empty eyeshadow tins and use them as your pan for water colours 31 purple fish uses these you can also get them in send rectangle shapes and miniature squares

Kristy Rice, U have gained a new follower in me. U have a personality kinda like mine & I think that's what I enjoy most about u & the way you explain things where ppl can relate. The optimistic way of looking at things. Creativity is contagious!! Can you tell me how you repurposed the paints in your Kopy Kat palette? I think that was the one you mentioned, if not i'm sorry about the confusion. U covered many vintage paint boxes, tyvm by the way! Ive never seen such a large vintage w/c paint tin haul. That's something else we have in common. I love old tins & the paint inside. I look forward to your response. If it's easier to show in a video, just let me know & I'll watch for it.

@@KristyRice I pretty much have all the watercolor sets except the 4th generation set. I am a huge fan of every single set. Well except the opaque watercolor set. Only because they crack badly as they continue to dry. I wish I had have known and I would have put a drop of glycerin in each pan as I was panning them.

I fell asleep during a video of Prussian blue pigment comparison and woke up to this video... I love vintage pallets but raising 3 kids I had to prioritize. Luckily, 2 of the kids were girls who are now adults and went through extensively and expensive eyeshadow phases. See where I'm going here? Oh yeah, frugal mom has her paints in repurposed eyeshadow pallets.

Oh, and how do you display your cute finds??? I am thinking of tilted shelves to actually see the quirky designs. But real estate will become an issue.... (Or a 'rotating' exhibit. Gives me the chance to play with them). The very shallow tins can be filled with ultra flat pans like they are used in eye shadow palettes. Stick a magnet tape to the palette and the mini pans will not fall out. This amount suffices for out door miniatures.

Excellent collection! If I send you a couple of photos, can help me identify a tin that I believe belonged to my grandmother? It has an ocean scene on the front and contains 50 small colors in a grid format, with two elongated colors that are unlabeled along the bottom road. The only text I can find, other than the color names in the grid, is “made in England”.
