Our Rural Bulgarian Village in Springtime (A Tour of a Traditional Bulgarian Village)
Our traditional Bulgarian village is situated in the Rose Valley in central Bulgaria . Life here is slow and small farming and self sufficiency are a way of life.
Our Bulgarian village is a typical village for the region, being largely agricultural. It is a small village with just a few streets and a village square. There are natural wells on some of the street corners where the mountain spring water can be collected.
An important aspect of village life is the "small farming" that takes place here. Many of the villagers own their own goats, chickens, pigs and horses. Each morning the shepherd enters the village at around five and collects the goats to take them up to pasture. The evenings see them trotting home again - each once separating independently from the herd as they reach their individual homes.
Many of the villagers also keep rabbits and chickens to eat, and for the chicken eggs. Each morning is punctuated with the call of the cockerels and other farm animals. The village is alive all day with the sound of cuckoos, woodpeckers and other native birds, until dusk when they are replaced by the twilight serenade of the farm dogs and the Jaba of the pond frogs and crickets.
Millenniums of wine growing in the region have produced a perfect natural yeast for wine making. Nearly every house has its own grape vines and a still for Rakia - a by product of the grape pressing process.
On the edge of the village stands an old farm that was once the site of a small monasterial farm where the monks would sing hyms that could be heard throughout the village. The village is now called “Singers” in Bulgarian. Nowadays local folk music can be heard wafting through the balmy evenings.
------------------------
Would you like to escape to a simpler place and time? Maybe just for a nice relaxing holiday, or maybe to leave the ‘rat race’ for good.
We are an English couple living in a small village In rural Bulgaria - a place where time seems to have stood still.
We make videos about life here with an emphasis on Slow living and Cottagecore:
A return to the land, home cooked food from scratch, rustic interiors, Self-sufficiency, local customs and traditions, and the beautiful countryside around our home.
Perhaps your dream has been to take early retirement? Or to afford your own small farm or homestead? Or maybe you just want to take a relaxing holiday in a beautiful sunny location.
We have been able to realise our own dreams of doing all of the above. We have created this channel to provide help, advice and information for anyone wishing to do the same, and to celebrate this beautiful location.
Our valley is the perfect place to relax. Enjoy the beautiful surroundings and the sunny climate, and let the fast pace of the modern world fade away. Indulge in home cooked traditional food and wines in rustic surroundings. delight in the colourful customs and celebrations that are still alive here. Maybe rediscover ‘old’skills like wine making, canning, Animal husbandry, or just how to cook a traditional dish on the log-fueled ‘petchka’.

Hello, im looking for a property in Bulgaria and interesting to buy English family houses. Maybe you know someone who wants to sell a house, it would be very helpful. Thank you.
@Escapetoasimplerplaceandtime
@@ВасилисаПремудрова-л7с hello! I don’t know anyone at the moment, but there are quite a few groups over here for buying and selling houses and you can advertise on those what you are looking for, where and what you want to pay. If you just go on Facebook and look for houses or property for sale in Bulgaria.😊
@ВасилисаПремудрова-л7с
@@Escapetoasimplerplaceandtime thank you, every information helps. I noticed there is not many English houses on the market or unbelievable prices from agencies, better to buy direct from owner. Ill keep looking.
@Escapetoasimplerplaceandtime
Yes you are right - they are individuals who advertise their own homes on the Facebook groups. There is no Estate Agent very often it’s straight from the owner. The cheapest place seems to be on the river Danube. I’ve seen them up there for under €20,000.

It looks beautiful where you live. I have only been to Bulgaria once,July 2016, near to Elena in the VT area. I loved the mountains, and although it was hot there was a gentle breeze,so I didn’t get sunburn which I would have done in England. I am impressed by the condition of the roads in the village and I would be confident to ride a bike and not have punctures too often,or am I imagining that? Seems a lot of grapes are grown by each family,l wonder if some is sent to a local winery ? If it’s not too personal, I would like to ask you if you have taken early retirement,or do you work from home? I am of the impression that you live in your village full time. I had a dream of buying a small house in Bulgaria,when property was very inexpensive,but due to a devastating diagnosis of stage 4 cancer (there’s no stage 5) I have to content myself with watching other people making a life in beautiful Bulgaria. Thank you for sharing your home and village with us.
@Escapetoasimplerplaceandtime
Hi there! So lovely to hear from you again. Yes we do live in our village full time and yes I have taken early retirement. I am actually registered blind and I was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis many years ago - though thankfully I am very well at the moment. I’m not sure about the roads! Some of them are better than others. You don’t see many people on bikes here - but they are literally 50 years behind us in so many respects - which is one of the things we like about it! I would love to get a tandem- I used to have a tandem back home (obviously I can’t see to ride a bike!) with regard to the grapes - no! Everyone drinks, a lot of wine here I think! Including me 😃 thank you for your wonderful comment, and I do hope you will be able to come over again🥰❤️

You are doing a great job here! Please describe and explain as much as you can so viewers can learn as much as possible. Can you help others who want to consider your area? Are there other english speaking people there. (Western Europeans) Kind regards from Denmark.
@Escapetoasimplerplaceandtime
Bless you! Thank you for your very kind comments and your helpful suggestions. Our village is situated in the rose Valley which is in central Bulgaria and is a very Rurel district. There are many villages here similar to ours and even prettier than ours. It is also a low-cost area to purchase property - as are other areas of Bulgaria. Most immigrants tend to locate either at the Black Sea or in VT, and those areas tend to be more expensive to live. This means that there are not a lot of English. Speaking people here - though there are more in the city - which is Plovdiv, which is absolutely beautiful! if you want more English speaking people, then the Black Sea or VT has more. I’m not sure how many people come from Denmark you will probably find some in the cities. Thank you again.😊💜(Plovdiv is about an hour and a half away from our village)

Breathtaking scenery and views that could be from a movie set. I hope that the farmer was spraying poisonous pesticides on the plants in the plants. What is the name of the village again ? and i wonder if any of those ladies partying are single or speak english and open minded to speaking to a foreigner from the UK ?
@Escapetoasimplerplaceandtime
😃 thank you! The village is called Pevtsite, situated in the valley of the Roses , near to Karlovo. And yes, many of the people here do use poisonous chemicals! We try not to, but we have had lots of problems with certain fungi. The Bulgarians aren’t really into organic farming. At least not in their own gardens. And yes, the ladies here love English gentlemen!😊 but most of them don’t speak English. In the cities, you will get more people to speak English.😊

It's a very gypsy region. If you can manage to live to them then it's ok. They could work for you and on the next day some of the equipment from the yard is very possible to disappear... Not all of the gypsies are in this mood but most of them...

We have a lot of Roma - in fact, we are outnumbered! But we have never had a single problem - not one! They have been very welcoming to us and we even attend the church.😊

Hi you have states that it is now difficult to buy a house an live in bulgaria. So how are people from the UK still doing it now Thanks
@Escapetoasimplerplaceandtime
Hi there! It isn’t at all difficult to buy property here - the problem is if you want to live here full time. The rules have changed since England left the EU - if you live in England. However, it is still very possible, lots of people come over every year - in fact it is becoming more and more popular. I wouldn’t want to give anyone the wrong advice, so I would say to contact the English embassy here. (they have a website). All the Bulgarian embassy website in England, they should both give you up-to-date information. There are also a number of FB groups where people will answer your questions a good one is “moving to Bulgaria“.😊 we have friends who moved here last year, who aren’t retired yet - I think it’s easier if you have a pension - but they’ve managed it - so it is possible.xx
@Escapetoasimplerplaceandtime
If you want to buy a house here, then you need to open up a nonprofit company as foreigners are not allowed to purchase land. This only takes about an hour - if you are serious and I can give you the details of a very good solicitor. This is very easy to do. But if you want to buy an apartment then you don’t need a company because you’re not actually purchasing land you’re just purchasing an apartment in an existing block. I think that the rules still remain that you can stay here for 90 days every year. No problem.
