Incredibly sad news. I apologize for breaking down in the beginning of the video but it's been a tough morning. My thoughts go out to Kim's family and friends at this incredibly difficult time.

monetization is off on this video out of respect to Kim, Superani, his family and friends, of course all the heartbroken fans and anyone else who comes by. This was a very difficult video to make for me. I lost a family member a few months ago and have never really addressed or accepted the loss directly yet...so I am at a weaker state mentally and physically than usual. But people who follow my channel would want this...so I stepped up and did the best I could do. thanks. Rich.

@@RichardFriendartist no problem my friend. I actually met Kim Jung Gi and was fortunate to have him remark an art book I purchased in 2019. I was mesmerized by his intuitive and extemporaneous process. He seemed to have the entire scene materialize in his head well before putting it on paper. I believe he mentioned in his lecture session that he has a eidetic memory for machine parts. Once he sees it, he can remember everything about it. That’s a gift.

Thanks for making this video, no apology for breaking down needed. I think the fact that he seemed to be just a lovely and giving individual who handed out his time and art freely and gladly and I think that's what makes it hard. When someone of that talent is combined with that kind of humility it hurts that much more when we lose them. I did my own little sketch of him on my lunch break to post to instagram with my brush pen because of course it would be with my brush pen, and now I know I'll never NOT think of him when I draw with brush and ink. Anyway, RIP Kim Jung Gi and thank you so much for the art and inspiration. And thank you Richard Friend.

Thank you so much for this video and the time you put into this to convey such raw and genuine emotions. There is nothing to apologize for the beginning because you put into words what everyone felt. I felt exactly the same. Ironically, a literal 5 seconds before I saw the announcement on Superani's channel I was watching one of his livestreams with such contentment and enthusiasm at watching him create absolutely unreal art. And when I exited the video and saw the announcement, I was shocked, it was like the world paused. I was so fucking devastated, it felt like a million artistic dreams was shattered. To think we will receive another "Superani is Live" youtube notification ever again, or hear Kim's hilarious jokes literally does not feel real. I always hoped to see him draw live by attending one of his events and now that will never ever happen. He had so much more to offer but we can reassure ourselves because we know he died doing what he loved. He was the artist of artists, the epitome of creative capability. May he rest well. We will never forget so keep drawing and know that millions across the globe are mourning with you ❤

He was so prolific, producing more work in one or two years than most artists do in their entire careers. He did what he loved right up to the end. I was really looking forward to watching his style develop and change over the next few decades. This was just so unexpected and tragic given his age and relatively good health. His wife and kids must be devastated. When the lockdown began I watched his stream in the early hours and he interacted with chat thru a translator, Miss Boinlee, I remember someone asked him how to draw from imagination a question that was surly asked a million times and his answer I will NEVER forget he said as I remember it something like “ drawing from imagination is easy all you have to do is observe the object and understand its structure” …. Something along those lines maybe my point is that, as incredible and amazing as his art was he made me feel that I could do it, it gave me a lot of confidence and I’ve been really putting the work for the last year I also remember his good sense of humor he was hilarious sometimes and you can see it trhu his art… I was watching his last video in his official channel and he was live sketching commissions the guy asked him for an octopus and he came up with a hilarious octopus choking Mickey Mouse he’d always do things like that. I’m my opinion Mr G was at a point where drawing was like speaking to him maybe a substitute sometimes it was like whatever he wanted to say or express for him it was easier to say thru his art he was great at drawing but I think he was also great at story telling. I’m kinda writing all this for me really because I want to remember… thanks for the art and the inspiration Mr G

He makes it look so easy, but the quality of his work unreal. And the fact that he does all this from imagination , with no under drawing is mind boggling. I mean, that is something that some of the most accomplished, high level artists can’t do, with a few exceptions. @@RichardFriendartist You are right man, totally one of a kind. Rough day today. I also had a lot of good times watching his streams and trying to deal with anxiety. He seemed like a joyful guy having fun with his drawing. Take care of yourself Rich! Gotta keep the ink flowing like only you can dude!

Rich.. great tribute, to a aspiring human being, not giving up on his dreams,so teaching others to do the same.. Hey, my son has that high anxiety stuff he takes medicine for it, I think it's really held him back in life. I hope all goes well with you, it's a shame that heroes die..
@RichardFriendartist

sorry to hear about your son. I never have taken meds. But yeah, anxiety is tough...most times I can manage it fine. Just if I get out of my comfort zone it can mess me up. I find travel and stuff like that challenging...but overall I do ok. the last few weeks I'd been stressing about work and things like that. then stuff like this pops up and you realize how fragile life is...and it's just a little overwhelming. My wife's brother died out of the blue a few months ago and it was totally unexpected and then talking about this kind of brought that all back...which although I've dealt with....I still am honestly in shock and don't think I've fully processed. Thanks lead. appreciate all your comments. Did you like the cars he draws? I know that's a hobby of yours!

Thanks for the video. The news hit me hard. The last couple years have been punishingly stressful and watching live streams of Kim Jung Gi drawing and hanging out with his friends was a total escape. Your videos too. It's that weird parasocial relationship phenomenon. I feel like I knew him and the Super Ani crew. I feel like I know you. Artists can be pretty transparent on social media. But seeing how much his friends loved him and how devastating the loss is for them just reminds me of all the friends I have lost. I'm glad he was more than just a tremendous artist to his friends and family. Tough day.

even as much as I work. I realize I need to be more focused and a bit more purposeful. I am too random....but it's better to realize that and then move forward...so Kim will be in my thoughts as I move forward. He reminds me to sketch more things. I rarely sketch unless I am working on something (which is all the time) but I should be doodling more on the side.

When I first heard the news on RU-vid I had to Google it to make sure that it wasn't true, because deep inside I wanted it to not be true. I think the weirdest thing for me was that I had watched a video of him drawing two days ago. So it was sad for me to find out that he had died when I woke up this morning. Kim wasn't just a great artist but also a great person. His humor, his willingness to help others improve in drawing and just his passion and dedication for the craft was something out of this world. Even now, as I'm sitting here, I ask myself why. Why did he have to go so soon? And the only asnwer I can give myself is life. Rest in Peace Kim, you were one of the best.
