I love this one - it might be my favourite NW ballad, actually. Imaginaerum is such a cohesive album, I adore how this resolves the central issue of the earlier song _I_ _Want_ _My_ _Tears_ _Back:_ at the end of the river (of life), "the mermaids you turned loose brought back your tears". Imagination releasing that block on emotion, a kind of return to childhood at last. And Anette is perfect for it.

That moment when (maybe Marko) starts whistling reminds me of the spaghetti western movies with Clint Eastwood riding on a horse, on the final journey. Annette is just perfect on this song. She is the perfect storyteller.

One of the most interesting things about Nightwish is that it was Tuomas' intention since 1996 to have soft female vocals and a folky vibe, but they had to turn heavy and powerful to match Tarja's voice, and it led to them making such a great success. But after that, he was able to get closer and closer to what was the original intention for the band. Even the newer songs that demand power because of Floor's metal vibe, she can get soft when it is asked of her. And I feel like she learned that after joining the band. It was a challenge for her.

It's a beautiful, very beautiful song. I've been used to soft, gentle sound of female vocals in Nightwish for a very long time, since Tarja's time. It's a paradox, but those vocals go well with heavy music. That's why I like Anette's soft vocals in Nightwish albums more than Floor's vocals. Of course there are songs where Floor's voice is very soft too, like Élan, and I love those songs too. Turn Loose The Mermaids also sounds very soft and gentle and I like it very much.
