I hope you will enjoy this trip into Japanese Buddhism and history. If you enjoy it please rate it for me.
These sculptures were shot at the Nara National Museum, located in Nara City Japan.
Most of them belong to temples and shrines of the Nara area. Interestingly, while all were once used in such places, those with east asian features seem to have been originally brought to Japan from Gandhara (Pakistan) and the stone carvings from ancient China.
The museum was originally established in 1889 as the Imperial Nara Museum.
There is an underground passageway that connects the East and West Wings of the museum. The wooden hand postures were exhibited in this passageway. The museum refers to these hand signs in English as "Manual Signs", but in Japanese we refer to them as "In".
The names and brief explanation of the In in this video will be posted on my website (bushinjuku.com.)
This video only includes the few pieces that they permitted me to video tape.
I hope that anyone who enjoys this video would someday have a chance to visit this museum in person, and absorb the power of these and the many other artifacts on display at this museum.
Other videos from Japan are available on my channel, and I will continue to upload video of my favorite places in Japan. Subscribing will tell RU-vid to automatically send you notices when something new is uploaded to my channel.
The authentic buddhist chants were added to the video during editing and were obtained from jodoji.com.
Video was shot with a Sony HDR-FX1 in 1080iHD on a standard miniDV Tape (sorry lack of a tripod created a shaky video.)
