A trip on the UK's LONGEST TRAIN (Aberdeen - Penzance) - Part One - Aberdeen to Edinburgh

It's fair to say this has been a bucket list item of mine for a few years now, so to finally complete the entire 13 hour 15 minute journey from Aberdeen to Penzance on 13/07/2023, on a Cross Country Voyager no less, was nothing short of spectacular.
Of course, I had to document the trip, which will be split across four videos. This is part one, taking us from Aberdeen down the East Coast of Scotland, calling at Stonehaven, Montrose, Arbroath, Dundee, Leuchars, Cupar, Ladybank, Markinch, Kirkcaldy, Inverkeithing, Haymarket and Edinburgh Waverley, crossing both the Tay and Forth Rail Bridges along the way.
I also decided that as this was such a special occasion, while the standard class on XC services is comfortable, I would try their first class for the first time. It should be noted, however, that these videos are not a review of the experience, but a series to document the journey itself, showing each calling point and some interesting sights throughout.
Hopefully many of you will still find these videos interesting, and allow you to see just how long this one service is. A huge thank you to all of the staff who crewed the train on this day, making it an even more enjoyable journey, especially the train manager with us for this first leg, who was incredibly friendly and welcoming!

A friend and I were looking last year to see if we could do this longest UK rail service, but from what I recall it only ran Southbound and only on Saturdays, and with Advance tickets at a sensible price about as rare as rocking horse manure we didn't manage. Looks like a fuller service this year. This year the expedition has morphed into making the longest UK rail journey we can to get home to Inverness in a day, though without the criteria of doing it on a single service. So in September it will be leaving Penzanze at 0815 with a 1st Advance to Edinburgh (via London), at just under £140 with the railcard, and a separate Scotrail ticket to get in to Inverness at 2317. Very much looking forward to that. Suppose by setting off earlier you could get a bit further North, but the logistics of setting off with no prospect of breakfast weren't that appealing. Will watch your instalments with interest, especially the part beyond Taunton which I haven't done for many years. Thanks for posting this, and other things too. 👍

Thank you very much for your kind words :), I believe the Aberdeen to Penzance service went down to Saturdays only at the start of the COVID pandemic, and was only restored to the full Monday to Saturday running at the May timetable change this year, which also reinstated the calls at the Fife stations between Dundee and Haymarket. That 15 hour journey from Penzance to Inverness sounds great, and you should pass plenty of nice scenery along the way! It would be interesting sometime to try taking the bus from Land's End to Penzance and then using the trains and buses north of Inverness to get to John O'Groats. Hope you enjoy your trip and thanks again!

I've done it in segments, never at once. My ambition is one day to start in Thurso, change through Inverness to change through Aberdeen to Penzance, which would include the farthest reaches of the British Rail system.

That would be one incredibly long journey but quite an accomplishment! It would be interesting to try and travel to the furthest North, East, South and West stations all in one week.

Do you mean longest train journey?

I just shorten it to 'longest train', as do others when referring to it, as it is quicker and less repetitive than saying 'longest (single) train journey' every time. A valid point though, as technically it should refer to the journey rather than the train itself.
