I attended Mount Temple Comprehensive School, where we were always very aware of our famous past pupils, and would joke about how U2 would randomly appear one day to take a trip down memory lane, never expecting they would ever do such a thing. Of course Bono decides to do just that years after I graduate 😂 But to see him walking the same hallways I once walked is truly surreal. I already feel very proud to be a woman from the northside of Dublin, but knowing a band as big as U2 grew up in neighbourhoods a stone's throw away and sat in the same classrooms as me has definitely elevated that sense of pride 💙

I'm not a religious person, nor do I go to church, but seeing U2 is the closest thing to a "religious" experience I've ever had. The War album started it off for me but it was Unforgettable Fire that sealed the deal when I was a 12 year old kid growing up in small town Texas. Saw them twice for the Zoo TV tour then again for the Pop Mart tour. Edge singing "Sunday Bloody Sunday" alone was, as I said, a religious experience.
@PaulsYouTube
@PaulsYouTube Год назад
This is true. I grew up in a Baptist church and there were moments of long parish prayer with music that you could feel the "Holy Ghost" run through you and the parish. It was such a rush. I watched 'Rattle and Hum' in a Dolby wide screen theater with a packed audience in 1988. I got that familiar religious feeling and feel in love with the band. Each concert I went to produced a stronger and stronger result. I took my sister to one of their concerts in 2009 and made no mention of the religious experience out of fear she wouldn't have it for fear of blasphemy. At the end of the concert she said, "I didn't realize U2 was a Christian band." She started to explain the feelings of the "Holy Ghost" washing through her. There is something about combination of Larry's drum playing, the Edge's guitar playing lifting you up on a musical wave in the sky, Bono's emotional pouring of his voice and the crowd in sync as they sing along that lifts you up into a spiritual realm. You can't beat a live U2 performance. When I listen to U2, it has to be live performances.

@alexandriaocasio-smollett5078
Agreed. But it’s not just him. It’s the entire band. It’s puzzled me as well because they’re not bad guys. In fact, quite the opposite. I believe a major factor in why that dynamic exists with them is because of how long(and consistently) the band has been around with zero lineup changes/break ups. In fact, they are now officially the longest running band in the history of rock without lineup changes, break ups, deaths, etc. So I think at some point it becomes a matter of public exhaustion. Its kinda like the exact opposite effect of why legacies of certain artists/actors/politicians grow exponentially when they die young/at their peak(Kurt Cobain, Jim Morrison, Jimi Hendrix, James Dean, JFK, RFK, etc.). Those individuals are frozen in time without anyone seeing any personal/artistic/cognitive decline.. Whereas with U2/Bono, their legacies have declined a bit because we’ve witnessed their downslope. I’m not saying that’s the only reason. But I’m convinced it is a major reason for the dynamic we just described.

I will never understand why people don't like this man. When U2 played Chicago on the Vertigo Tour, Bono had a terrible cold, but they still played both nights and put on an amazing show. (The show is captured on DVD). And despite his cold, he came outside and personally greeted hundreds of fans earlier in the day.

Nothing to do with his music it’s his preaching about poverty while the same time does everything to hold on to his millions. Supports the rich while wanting the poor to tighten their belts
@hutch1197
@hutch1197 Год назад
@@davidclarke8750 He doesn't "preach" about poverty. He walks the walk. He has successfully lobbied first world governments to forgive hundreds of billions of debt to impoverished countries. He has personally used his connections with wealthy and powerful people to raise billions for direct aid to the worlds poorest, raising money for housing, food and fighting HIV/AIDS in Africa. And he has personally donated millions of his own money. Just because he's wealthy (with money he earned by the way), doesn't mean he's a bad person. He has used his position for nothing but good. And he has never asked the poor to "tighten their belts". You're really reaching here.
@etainafuzz
@etainafuzz Год назад
@@davidclarke8750 you 100% have Bono all wrong. He has been, and still is, an advocate for the poor. He's donated millions of his own money, raised millions from charity auctions, used his phone book to solicit additional millions from "rich friends", and most importantly he's donated a LOT of his own time helping the poor. In fact, U2 almost ceased to exist around the late 90's because of the amount of time Bono was spending on his charity work. The band ended up giving him an ultimatum. Bono has always said that both he and the band try and use their "celebrity" status as "currency." Meaning, if they can use their status to make the world a better place and help those that need it then they have done their job.

U2 is the sound track of my youth. When my dad died last year, we kept his body for the day for out of town family to be able to come make their closure. When the funeral home came to get him, on a gurney, swathed in the American flag (as he was a veteran) Bullet the Blue Sky was playing on the stereo. It sounded so deep and intense as what my soul was feeling at the moment. I cry like a baby every time I hear that song now. Now, when I need a good cry, I'll BLAST it.

I'm a Gen Xer and I have always had a thing for Bono for all the reasons you see in this video. All of these clips from his earlier music make me want to go back and watch his videos again when I first thought, "He can sing! He's smart! I love the lyrics! He wants to do more than just be famous! And he's pretty dang cute!" I love this band, I always have, and I always will. Thank you for this story!

Seen many bands live but none of them come anyway close to U2 live.Seen them a few times and they have blown me away each time.Oh for the record she said it's Bono's band but it's not.He may be the front man but it was actually Larry Mullen Jr who put U2 together.

He either publicly fakes his humility and humanity extremely well or he is really a special person in the world. In either case, he (and his band mates) has done massive amounts of good in the world with their voices, efforts and good deeds. More power to them all.

Bono has done more to destroy Europe than any other entertainer. He has the same politics as Bill Gates and Tony Blair. Ireland is being completely demographically destroyed with open borders and your boy is happy about it. The American Empire wants war with Russia and Bono is happy to promote that too. If he wasn't a Globalist shill he wouldn't be getting positive coverage from American Corporate Media.

Thanks CBS Sunday Morning for this story. This interview gave a glimpse into Bono's backstory as well as having his wife Ali take part. In addition, hearing how the men of U2, The Edge, Larry Mullen Jr, & Adam Clayton met just cemented why I & others have enjoyed their music for over 40 years. I fell out laughing when Bono said, "Americans are here and so is the bad weather." 😂 🍻#U2
