Representing Brooklyn, I would like the trolleys to make a comeback, with either the traditional renovated trolleys, or the latest design streetcars if possible.
And today downtown Brooklyn suffers from notorious congestion and is going to get worse once the renovation of the BQE cantilever section and the other parts begins. Cant wait.
Thanks for this great video about 19c Brooklyn trolleys and good luck with your project. I have lived in Geneva Switzerland for many years and can vouch for trolley power in easing urban traffic congestion.
LOOKS LIKE IN 2019 THIS TROLLEY PROJECT AIN'T GOIN' NOWHERE,IS THAT TRUE? I WAS IN SAN FRANCISCO,TROLLEYS & LIGHT RAILS ARE EVERYWHERE,& QUITE FUN TO RIDE! MOST OLD TRACKS IN BROOKLYN ARE NO MORE/COVERED UP,I USTA RIDE TROLLEYS TO CONEY ISLAND AS A KID...IN`50's..ALL GONE NOW!
It's 1 thing that i think will be a problem the electric lines that operates the trolley. Those can be a problem when trucks are on the road too the only suggestion would be to make the trolley electric like they make Teslas and have enough power to go at least a half a day then let the other half of trolleys go out and do the rest of the day. I can see it now trolleys running out of power in the middle of the street and they have to send in power cars to charge the trolley up. Only if the electric car was solar powered it will be nice but that's a fat chance
Check out the San Diego,CA trolley system.True, there has been a few glitches, but, overall, they can advise Brooklyn on how to do it with minimal problems and save millions of dollars.Just sayin'.
I'm from New York and I've been to Toronto and I always like going there because of the streetcars and really wish that all of New York City Never got rid of the streetcars. After all, a streetcar can carry more people than a bus.
The latest incarnation is called the "BQX", there are A LOT of new major players now involved. Watch: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-zc35haAt4g8.html
The Brooklyn Queens Connector , is different project although similar in concept. It would run along the Brooklyn waterfront from as far south as Brooklyn Army Terminal. It would run north touching upon the EDGE of Mr. Diamonds project up to green point and then to queens plaza and astoria sections. Total length path about 10 -12 miles each way. Area has seen alot of highrise construction with poir car scccess and near zero Public transit. Rolling stock would be modern srticulated card of 2 ~ 4 sections about 90feet in lenth. Would be overhead lines charging batteries on board as there ---ss in Detroit-- be eireless sections. Would be operated, as coity owned ferries are, seperate from state MTA agency that operates subway & bus service. Cutrently in limbo due to Virus.
Sorry, the Guinness Book of World Records says its the "World's Oldest Subway Tunnel": www.brooklynrail.net/images/News_21more/tunnel-guinness-world-records-2011-daily-news.jpg
