My number 1 is "Klaus" Number 2 is "Die hard" and Number 3 is "The golden compass" even if number 3 isn't really a Christmas movie but I love watching it on Christmas.
This movie hits #2. My #1 is Christmas vacation and my 3rd is the Grinch with Jim Carrey. I must say this trilogy is one of few that gets better as they go on.
Jim Carrey's The Grinch that Stole Christmas, this movie and the other ones of it, the original grinch movie, snow dogs, Jim Carrey's A Christmas Carol, Polar Express, Die Hard series, and im pretty sure a bunch more that i can't think of at the moment 😸
We watched this at my mom's recently, and me and my sisters tore it apart just to poke fun. My mom got mad, and we were like, "at least we aren't fighting."
I grew up in a divorced household and this was very much a beloved film for me. Still is. It's cheesy, but I feel like it does a good job really representing how children in divorced families feel sometimes. Scott learned a valuable lesson about cherishing his time with his son, the mom learned that she needs to let her child be a child and Scott and the mom learned how to be parents that are divorced. The only one that didn't really get some kind of arc was Neal (until the very end).
If you go back to when charlie was in school the kid behind him was an elf too and he's the only one who doesn't laugh when charlie says his dad's Santa
A movie doesn't need to have a message, not even a Christmas movie. It just needs to be enjoyable... And that's what this was, just a fun movie. I enjoyed it back in the day, and I still do. I enjoyed The Santa Claus 2 and 3 even more.
I also have a 2 1/2 year old and I completely agree. Watching this movie after becoming a parent has made me so hyperaware of my presence and attitude... And how important it is to keep their innocence alive!!!
"I want you to know this...and I want you to carry this with you for the rest of your days. NO ONE makes fun of Tim Allen on my watch...and get's away with it." --Johnny Depp, Life's Too Short.
Seems me and everyone here that likes it have the same experience - kids who's parents are divorced and how they dealt with it during the holidays. This has definitely hit us all. I wouldn't be surprised if everyone here also loved Mrs. Doubtfire.
It was when Scott finally accepts his new role as Santa that Tim Allen showed he could become someone besides his Tim Taylor character. When he catches the snowglobe from Charlie his expression changes to one of warmth. At the police station he does not talk back as Scott would likely do. And when Scott gently comforts Charlie at the end, he has totally become Santa.
Also, the scene where he mentions that Judy looks good for her age and she turns him down and you mentioned discomfort...I had the opposite issue: I was 9 when this came out and I remember crushing on one of the elves at the end (Kenny Vadas) and being weirded out because the elves were "older" than my grandparents! LOL
I genuinely love this one, not gonna lie. I think this is my first Christmas movie I actually remember seeing--I definitely wore the VHS out. I didn't get any of the adult jokes as a kid, so it only got funnier as I got older. Bernard the head elf was my first love; my mom actually used to write a Christmas letter "from Bernard" in gold pen for me every Christmas. 😆 It's corny but this one's important to me. I'm glad you guys got at least some enjoyment out of it!
Lol this just got me into the Christmas spirit! Yes it is a hilarious film, I always loved it. I giggle the most when his appearance is changing and he's in the pitch meeting ordering and eating all the sweets.
Fun fact: in addition to several sequels, Disney released a TV series last month with Tim Allen reprising his role as Santa Clause. I think it's 10 episodes. A bunch of the original actors returned, including Bernard! But you have to see the sequels to understand it.
Hey- I like the cheese. This is my all time FAVORITE Christmas movie- im so excited that you guys watched this, I also LOVE #2. They also just made a TV series out of this 😂 so, it’s not bad. 😂
My mom had us all watching the series on NYE while we waited for the ball to drop. She's been loving this franchise since the first one. Even the grandkids were roasting her that she's going to be binge watching it New Years Day.
I laughed so hard along with you both during some of those scenes 🤣. And I love this movie. I'm 34 and I think always watched it through my lens of being a child but watching through your lens was just hilarious. Thank you for that hahaha.
It’s legit the most 90s kids movie ever. If you didn’t watch it in the 90s and you weren’t a kid in the 90s, you’re probably not gonna vibe with it as well. The reindeer and the whole “we’re your worst nightmare: elves with attitude” is just straight up kids movie from the 90s. It’s so funny watching it again, like re-living my childhood. And as someone who studied psychology in college, I love any movie that pokes fun at psychologists. 😂
I didn't grow up in the 90's, I'm a 2000's kid, however, I still think this movie is awesome and just pure nostalgic, a lot better than Hallmark I'll tell you that much.
@@RisaPlays Oh my goodness, I love What About Bob! I know you probably won’t see this since it’s a year later (I didn’t realize my comment notifications were turned off 😝), but I have to comment when someone mentions What About Bob. One of my classmates used that film for a paper he did for our abnormal psychology class, and our psych professor loved that movie! He kept quoting it quietly to himself during that class. 😂
Y’all watchin this like you’re Neal lol. It’s supposed to be fun and goofy. It’s a 90s movie about Santa Claus existing with Tim Allen 😂 it’s not a drama or period piece or sumthin It’s a classic for a reason. It’s well loved!
Re your question: Yes, this is on my Christmas movie list. I prefer classics like "Miracle on 34th Street" and "The Bishop's Wife", but don't get why people like "Elf", which I think is much sillier and has less magic than "The Santa Clause." Also on my list are "Michael" and "While You Were Sleeping."
Funny reference... First house they go to Scott says he hopes that the person that lives there is a tailor. His character name in home improvement is Tim Taylor. Also, when they're at the North Pole for the first time you can see him trying to put on a kids tool belt
I loved this movie growing up. This is my first Christmas with my wife, and I was hesitant to show her this film...now I feel worse 😂 Thanks for the reaction!
So.. yeah, I bet people didn't request this just to "Get you good", like they were trolling you or something. It's really not that bad of a movie, lol. The CGI is old, obviously. And there was definitely some cheesy parts. But it felt like you all were picking at it a little. Like, it's Santa, there's magic.. of course the fireplaces are going to be able to fit him. 😂 People probably genuinely thought you'd love this movie.. I think I've only ever seen one other reaction where someone legitimately thought this was a bad movie..lol. Usually I totally agree with you guys in the reviews, but hey, guess it can't happen all the time! 🥰 And it's a little strange you didn't pick up on all the lessons here. Not sure how it missed the mark as bad as you think it did. So that's a little confusing. 🤔
Right?! This movie is much more emotional and lesson filled compared to Elf (a straight comedy). This definitely wasn’t the reaction I was expecting. 🤷🏼♀️
A lot of people grew up watching this movie I just don’t think this movie was bad. Considering what year it was made obviously the special effects are not going to be great. Kind of feels like this reaction was not what I expected.
same. I was super confused why they thought this movie was a troll vote or something. especially considering that they love Elf and Harry Potter?! don't get me wrong, I love Elf and I love the HP franchise but I just don't get how they can love those movies but then not understand how Santa magic works...so strange!
Loved you guys laughing still at the end because of how cheesy it was. Tim Allen's humor is still great and I'm glad he was apart of this 1st movie and continued til the 3rd and returned for the Disney+ series too (a few of the original cast from each movie return too)! The trilogy movies are a must watch during Christmas time no matter how silly. It is a movie for cynical non-believers of Santa and parents/guardians who don't know how to handle the holidays with children who start to stop believing in Santa and anybody with very low Christmas spirit. A lot of children who grew up watching this are now adults and might now understand the adult humor as well as how NOT to ruin a child's belief. Each movie hits differently based on your own life experience and how you connect to some of the characters (like the divorce issues present in this or a whole life style or attitude change). The 90s movies like this one and Jurassic Park both started incorporating real-life situations like divorce into fantasy movies while still giving us the opportunity to believe in the whole movie magic. This continues into the 2nd and 3rd movie too so I hope you guys give them a chance. No spoilers, but you guys will get answers to a lot of things you pointed out or asked about. Also, if Tim Allen isn't a believable Santa, then maybe you prefer Kurt Russell? There is the Netflix movies 'The Christmas Chronicles' ???
Hahaha...awesome! 😂 Hey, laughter is health. I guess, the Appleton Oak just gained another ten years. 👍 A movie that makes that happen can't be really bad. 😉
I never saw the Santa Claus either and I agree with Oak. It isn’t the premise it’s the execution. They could have done this same premise but done it intelligently.
i honestly cant believe you didnt like this movie. Its a classic, one of my all time favorites! Maybe you had to be a kid in the 90s to love it? at least you laughed a lot :)
I want to thank all four of you guys for your reactions especially during this time. These past few years and particularly the holidays have not been kind to myself and countless people however from the bottom of my heart, I want say thank you for helping me smile and laugh through it. It's not always easy but your reactions certainly help.
I grew up watching this movie. It's definitely in my top 3 Christmas movies. I think what this movie did INFINITELY better than any other Christmas movie is the North Pole. I've never seen a more complete or magical North Pole. It's absolutely stunning.
The Santa clause movies (and now, the new tv series) are my family’s go to movies! The next movies and the tv series explain things more 😂 And #3 is my favourite, Martin short and Tim Allen are hilarious together.
As a 90's kid I always have had a lot of fun watching this movie. Classic Tim Allen indeed, not exactly what we would consider super kid friendly comedy style these days, lol.
your review had me in stitches, that was awesome 😂 This movie was on repeat in my home because of my little brother, and seeing it from an adult point of view now hits different 😅
This was one of my kids favorite movies, but as they've gotten older and we've watched together. We find that it's not always a child's movie. Thank you for the reaction video because it made me laugh and helps me stay in the holiday mood
This is my favorite Christmas movie. I think I definitely believed in Santa Claus a lot longer than "normal" because of this movie. I loved it so much and still do. Nostalgia 100 as well as I love cheesy movies! I watch all 3 every Christmas.
This is my favorite Santa Movie 😂. I love it even more as an adult than when i did as a kid. The second one is great too. You would enjoy The Lemon Drop Kid with Bob Hope. It’s a great Christmas movie as well.
Honestly its not even a bad movie. Its a classic. Ok I admit that some of the effects are dated, but they were working with what they had. 2 is decent. 3 is kinda meh.
I grew up watching these but the only one I had on DVD was the 3rd movie. It’s not great, but Martin Short as Jack Frost is awesome. I personally like that story more than Robo-Santa in the 2nd movie.
this is one of my favorite Christmas movies. I feel like the whole thing about adults not believing in Santa or magic anymore is very fitting for the review here haha like, I think there was a lot of nitpicking here that I haven't seen in other movies. but honestly, everybody has different tastes so I'm glad that you guys were at least able to laugh and enjoy yourselves. ❤
I love this movie. My kids were young teenagers and they came into their own sense of humor and they loved it !! They're still watching it and it has become a staple in their house now. 🎄🎄 Allen also did "Christmas with the Kranks" with Jamie Lee Curtis and Dan Akroyd.
If some people think this isn't a great "kids" Christmas movie then they will definitely think that the Kranks is too much adult humor instead of for kids. But I love Tim Allen in pretty much everything he is in & I watch The Santa Clause movies & Christmas with the Kranks (which I just watched lol)near the holidays and love them, even more, each time!
I would say the difference is elf kept a more adult humor throughout. But this kinda gave up after certain point and felt like cater as just kids movie. If the movie started off like that and fully through maybe have different view.
@@stephaniezimbalist3757 but…Elf is executed WAY more cheesily! Understandably the North Pole scenes in Elf were super low-budget because it wasn’t where most of the action occurred. In the Santa Clause it was done exceptionally well!
I truly don’t think anyone expected you to think this was bad, everyone loves The Santa Clause! These movies are over the top and cheesy because they’re for kids, just like all the other classic Christmas movies. The North Pole was truly magical to see, and executed soooooo much better than Elf. Because that one is Will Ferrell, I always assumed it was done so cheaply/badly to be funny and hokey.
I love this movie but I also grew up watching it. It's the 8th movie/tv show out of 24 I watch every year for Christmas. Loved seeing your reactions and the nonstop laughing at the end. Fun fact, I saw Tim Allen at The Laugh Factory in California. He talked about this movie and how he hates/dislikes kids. So it was really funny hearing some of the stories from this movie. Also Happy Holidays or normal week if you don't celebrate
I absolutely LOVE you guys and your reactions and I absolutely get why you think this movie is so cheesy -- it is, pure 90s cheese -- but it's also really clever (so many of the jokes Tim Allen delivers early on are effing hilarious) and the emotional core hits me SO hard, even still (and maybe even more so?) today as an adult. I grew up with this movie and my husband and I consider this to be "our" Christmas movie because of all the nostalgia, but also we just think there's a lot to love here. I really do think the emotional core is one that's beautiful and really, really resonated with me and a lot of us who were kids in the 90s. I think this movie is much better than people give it credit for because of the fantastic father/son story. I'd encourage you to watch this one again with your kiddos.
My favorite Christmas movies, all three of them, with the third being my fave, even though most think it’s the worst of the three movies. I was so psyched to watch the new six episodes, with the majority of original major characters coming back! It was cute, and I honestly wish it would have been longer. I hear there’s a possibility of another set of episodes in the future! Merry Christmas to everyone!
My mom started playing the new episodes while we were waiting for the ball to drop and everyone was kind of doing their own thing to entertain ourselves and stay awake until midnight. 5 of 6 of us were so invested by the time we had to pause it for the ball drop. 🤣
I loved this movie as a kid. I mostly enjoy it for the lore it adds to Santa Claus. It answered questions I didn't even know I had, like does Santa die and if so, what happens? If it isn't one person for eternity, how do they choose a new person? I also love Christmas movies that bring the belief in Christmas and Santa Claus back to people who have lost that child within. Great reaction!
I’ve been so excited to watch y’all react to this! These were the Christmas movies I grew up watching. Bernard is such an underrated character 😂 Also I love the 2nd & 3rd movies more than the 1st!
It isn’t so bad it’s good, it’s just good! This movie shaped my view of Santa Claus as a kid and explained a lot of the questions I had. Tim Allen was, and will always be my Santa Claus. 🤍
You don't have to have grown up with this movie to enjoy it. I was 32 when this movie came out and it is up on my list of great Christmas movies. There is nothing wrong with cheese. This movie is about Christmas, it is fun, and it is inspirational, all things that make a classic Christmas movie.
To answer your critique of the weak plot and character development issues, I think of this as a story written by kids, only better! Watching it with a kid who lived through the 90’s and watched other 90’s kids movies is a blast! It’s a fantasy. It’s not deep. I love it! And I enjoyed you giggling through your whole review.
Tim Allen is AMAZING - I love everything he is in. I also love his personal story of redemption - started off a bit of a bad seed and turned his life around. Plus he is hilarious. Especially in Christmas with the Kranks!!!
Glad to see you guys enjoying one of my most favourite christmas movies 💜 I always get emotional because of Charlie. Also, I'm glad the Oak found it weird, too, when Judy, the elf, told Scott she was already seeing someone. That always makes me a bit uncomfortable 😂🙈 Thank you for your reaction! Wish you guys and your loved ones wonderful christmas days 🎄💜
Honestly surprised Babes in Toyland (the version with Pat Morita and Keanu Reeves) isn't one of Oak's Christmas movies. 🤣 Personally, I think every Christmas movie should have a little cheese. Even Die Hard is a bit cheesy at times. My mom loves these Santa Clause movies (and Tim Allen). She even had us watching the new Disney+ Santa Clause series on Christmas. And yes, it stars Tim Allen looking to retire as Santa and searching for a replacement to be Santa.
Just rewatched all three movies myself and the new show, and I gotta say I can't be more hyped for you guys to watch this movie(and hopefully the entire series). Merry Christmas!
In the original vhs tim Allen ad libbed a line saying Neal's number was 1800spankme. Turns out it's an actual adult phone service. They had to edit it out so kids wouldn't call the number.
I loved this movie as a child. I loved Bernard and Judy and the E.L.F.S. This movie has made me want to try the shaken, not stirred hot chocolate since I was little.
I found your guys page randomly a few months back and have been binge watching your reactions. Somehow i missed this one. Im so glad you watched this one. Im a late 90s kids so i grew up with toy story and this. We watch it every year as a family. We have watched it every christmas eve for as long as i can remember.
🙋🏻♀️ I’ve had a shaken “hot chocolate”, but it wasn’t hot, it was cold, and it was VERY good lol. This movie reminded me a lot of Hook when it came out. Needless to say, I loved it. This is one of the staples in our Christmas movies list. What I love is that this isn’t just a kid’s film, it’s got some very difficult adult themes that can make this a hard watch. I feel like they touch on the topics of divorce and child custody in a pretty profound way while making this still a fairly heartwarming Christmas movie. Definitely speaks to those children with broken homes. I think you guys found it so cheesy because it’s a VERY dated movie. Don’t get me wrong, it was always a bit cheesy, but it’s compounded by time. For sure a movie that requires a sense of nostalgia. That said, I DESPISE the sequels. So, good luck. 😂
Yeah like I watched National Lampoons Christmas vacation for the first time last night and that is also waaaay over the top cheesy. But I like it. A more lighthearted time.
@@Allaiya. If some parents were put off by the adult humor in The Santa Clause, I would LOVE to see their faces when they sit down to watch most... if not ALL of the Vacation movies and find out they aren't exactly kids' movies, holiday-themed or not!! That's If they even make it far enough to get to the really risque parts, I bet they run away screaming lol ;)
As a kid, this movie was hilarious. Nothing in the storyline was disturbing or bothering. It was relatable and realistic life situations with the divorce and dad being grouchy. I feel like that's real life. For it being in the 90s, there wasn't a lot of cgi in films. This was a magical, fun movie that was loved by most children at the time. I don't know how kids would feel about it now since cgi and technology is better and the new norm.
I've always thought the Santa Clause and the sequel with Martin Short is my jam but this year, for some reason, i went all in and totally binged and got into all the movies and even the TV Show. It's offically on my list of favourite franchises
im 30 years old, and i grew up with this one and its still one of my top favs. its in my top 5. The quote of believing is seeing, has stuck with me my entire life! its honestly helped me get through some tough times, and i would watch it every year with my dad. this is my second Christmas without him, and i cant tell you how much joy this movie brings me! While also making me think of some ridiculously fond memories of my dad. It's cheesy yes, and maybe it doesn't do the best at having a message. BUT, at the end of the day it brought me joy, and i continue to take a few things with me after watching it
Fun fact, Tim Allen originally had it scripted that he shot and killed Santa instead of just startling him off the roof. Disney decided they didn't find it as humorous to shoot Santa dead in their movie as Tim Allen did.
i used to watch this with my family every year while decorating the Christmas tree. it's such a cute movie. the other tradition was watching a Christmas Story multiple times (while chatting) at my grand parents. to me these are two of the best Christmas movies but probably mostly from nostalgia
I loved this movie as a kid lol And honestly would still have it on occasionally just bc I like Tim Allen though haven’t actually sat down and rewatched it in full. I love cheesy shows/movies, especially around Christmas time! 🎄🎅🏻 My favorite though is Home Alone & Rudolph.
