In this video I give some pointers on how to fly the P-51 and other American Fighters related to it in War Thunder, I will continue this series covering a variety of aircraft from War Thunder, and explaining tips and tricks to make you a better pilot!
After some tinkering with my recording software in VR is done I will upload some videos in DCS and Il-2 Great Battles to demonstrate tactics and the differences between flying in War Thunder and a Sim!

One more thing I've learned the hard way about this plane and its BR. most FW 190s turn like bowling balls as we all know, but the D-9 190 is surprisingly Turney. At high speed and any altitude above 3000m it will kick your tail in every way. Just drag it down to low alt and it loses most of its advantage. If he doesn't break off u might be in trouble but there's one option at least.

The Doras arent manœuvrable, I don't know where u got that from. It is very fast tho and I believe has rly good engine power

its amazing how these lower subscriber channels, typically provide WAY better info/tutorial vids, instead of all the washed out repetitive videos the main stream guys typically make, great work, earned a sub

I’m determined to learn this plane now because of a toxic bf109 clan that targeted me yesterday. Long story short, game 1 they all tried to climb after me and ended up leaving because they lost a lot of energy, 3 min later I dive down with my p-47 wingman and we destroy them. Next game I queue against them again, and they all make it known that they’re targeting me so I climb up to 8000 meters and 5 109s start making their way upward toward me, I tried what I could but because I’m a new pilot I ended up dying. I’m upset that I wasn’t able to take down even one of them in that situation. I plan on become an elite P-51 pilot so I can deal with something like that much better than I did.

If you practice a lot in a single plane even if it's not generally considered good you can become great with it! Some things that will really help is just go open a custom and put a bunch of bots to fly around as target practice and get extremely good with the guns which will help immensely. Keep practicing and you'll be walking all over them 109's in no time!

i myself rather fly P47 than P51. You are not as nimble, but you have more guns & ammo and that SPEED - if you notice them fast enough theres a high chance you get away because you are probably the fastest plane in the match. And since your compressor takes the other half of fuselage behind cockpit it have good performance on all altitudes. P47 D28 is in my top3 fav planes

Hello "Leon_SVK" here. I have over 3 000 games in P-51D models, around 70% winrate and over 7 000 kills. Possibly world record. K/D of 5:1 with D-30 and 7:1 with D-10. Few tips I can give as well: - Supercharger switches at around 3200m of altitude. That's where the P-51s performance is worst. You get the most performance at around 1,5 km and then at around 5.5 km of altitude - P-51 has actually really good performance at low altitude. It doesn't fit It's playstyle of course because then you don't have the advantage of being able to dive quickly. But top speed at the deck is around 620 kph IAS which is probably the best at It's BR. K-4 is faster at high altitudes, but not even K-4 can catch D-30 at the deck. D-30 has 150 octane fuel running 75'' of manifold pressure so it has a lot more performance and is actually more realistic to what P-51s used in real life. D-5 is running at 67''' of manifold pressure so running on factory setting which was not used in 1944 and later. - P51 has very very durable flaps. You can deploy combat flaps at 620 kph! Most planes rip their flaps at 500 kph and because of how aerodynamic this thing is it can turn surprisingly well at high speeds. Sometimes It's viable to let enemy dive after you and then you have a chance of getting on his tail in a first few turns while still at high speed. This works really well against 109s for example.

This is actually the best tutorial/ advice I've seen for the p51. And thx for some of the manual controls such as radiator control prop pitch and the elevator down/up. I didn't know those controls existed. I've been playing since 2016

a hack i use to bleed less speed when turing is by holding down E when turing left, and Q when truning right, good thing to do for people who are more acustom to using their keyboard more often.

Typically in D-30 you aren’t supposed to WEP from 2.9km to 3.6km because of supercharger lag causing power loss that renders WEP useless. Essentially if you WEP in between those altitudes you are just burning the engine running it at an intensive RPM that won’t give you more horsepower. Better to keep it as cool as you can and keep radiators as closed as possible to keep your speed up so that in the end you have more altitude and speed to play with as a result.

I think you can even keep the radiators at 100% with MEC if you want to. With the P51D models because Gaijin never implemented the Meredith Effect and also its radiators don't really mess up your climb rate at all...so its even better

I find it going with 97% throttle to be most effective. Game does good one with auto settings. MEC shines when you don't want to overheat your engine while chasing or running away from someone. I'm not as experienced as The Steel but there you go

If radiators really decrease your performance? I`m not sure about that. Usually just set WEP all the time and radiators 100%, never get overheat. Also set prop pitch to ~80, and 100 when chasing someone, or when in deep dive.

bro I have a question, how the hell are you making so many sliver lions and RP. by no means am i a good player but i make maybe 5,000 silver lions on a good game, and i see you made 60,000 from one game. im super confused on this, and i have no idea what im doing wrong

I just recently started playing war thunder again and I've noticed a drastic decrease in the rewards for doing well in Air RB, before it was nothing to get a 15000-20000 RP game with 80000 SL, and for a really good game I'd get upwards of 30000-40000RP and over 100k SL. Now I'm lucky to break 10000 RP with premium account and a premium plane. It's a bummer but in contrast it seems for me in ground RB I'm researching faster than I ever have. (I suck in ground RB) It's probably something to do with them increasing the rewards for doing bad and decreasing them for doing well sometime last year.

Came from the reddit post. Nice tutorial. hate to break it too you but you got a good us team, most of them just ground pound or go for the deck and get picked up. Btw can you do a tutorial for the F8F1B? I have the French varient and like it a lot but I can't play it very effectively.

You said it better to climb fast, clearing implying faster climb rate, not faster speed. Then you continue to say its better to have speed to get away? If your climbing faster than you have less speed. So do you mean its better to climb slowly in order to have more speed? Or what.

In DCS the k4 is better mainly because the P 51 has been running below 61” 1,500~HP of manifold pressure... Thats 1942 standards. Even factory setting for D variants were 67” 1,630HP-1,690HP (Low blower ofc) when introduced (round 43 era). But before and by the time as well as after the MOST COMMON was 72”-75” of manifold 1,776HP-1,848HP. Which is what the D-10, and D-30 run on in war thunder WHICH IS CORRECT AND ACCURATE. DCS running p 51s below 67” and 72” manifold against 1944-45 planes isn’t historically accurate, or realistic in any stretch of the imagination. Even the D-5 in war thunder running 67” instead of 72” is very inaccurate seeing as its skin is “winter of 1944”. Idk if you are advocating that p 51s face things like K4s with 310 less Horsepower because you think K4s are bad, or aren’t as easy as they were when they used to be unhistorically good (still are, so are they in DCS). That’s not balanced or a good idea... Thing is it shouldn’t even have 1.98ata (1,900~HP) if we are talking about most common boosts setting a during service. 1.8ata was the most common (1,800~HP). Idk why sims or some players insists on making allied planes (typically American) unhistorically bad, and german ones unhistorically powerful. It makes no sense from a logic, historical, or balance stand point to me.

@@anneallison6402 I think it’s an absolute monster and out classes any mustang even the H (unless we are talking straight-line speed, and AoA of course). As far as do I think it’s accurate? To a degree yes, the high aspect ratio wings should and in theory would be better for good MER, and it’s weight of course would negate a lot of the extra lift to a degree which would cause sole loss in AoA which is what I think war thunder sorta simulates since the Ta 152 doesn’t turn much better than the Dora’s if at all without flaps. But it retains tons more speed, aswell as keeping more lift above 7.8km which is realistic. I will be making a video series dedicated to testing the Mustang, and Dora 9 (which is a much closer match up, and both relatively were around at the same time periods). However, if we are talking vs the D-30, Ta 152 H wins daily. Now that you’ve mentioned it’s FM I’ll look into it.

@@anneallison6402 109s in general have a bit too much AoA for what they are (from what I’ve gathered), but for balance reasons I think it should stay as is. As far as MER: it might be a bit too good as well buts some case with the AoA. The only things I can for sure tell you where 109s over perform is high speed controllability (mainly rolling is too good at higher end speeds), and the engine settings which are incredibly Ahistorical with things like the F-1, F-2, G-10, G14/AS (to my knowledge) being the acceptations to that. As far as MER I say this because the slats while they’d produce extra lift they’d also cause more drag so as to how they don’t slow you down as much in high angle of attack maneuvers idk. As far as later 109s (like the G6 and later). They lose a lot of thrust under 120mph (not sure if that’s historical) but if you take away some of their MER and fix their high speed controllability I’d say buff here crap out of their low speed thrust because the thing is... Bf 109s are in a tough area, you what some historical accuracy but you don’t want 109s to be near unplayable, and un fun. As an allied player I don’t want to club Germany all day even tho back in the day when their planes were insanely unhistorical that’s what they did. Eventually more ppl will leave the game, longer que times, more fighting things like Ki 84s, yak 3us, Ta 152 Hs, etc nuts planes that I don’t want to see spammed out. Overall the 109s are decently balanced with G-14s being too high in BR, and K4 imo is okay at 5.7 but could be even better if we do some major decompression.

thanks for the info but my team mates are usually the cause of my loss due to me being the only one that side climbs and my team mates all end up getting killed due to head ons or turn fighting only one match where my team mates side climb I actually won and got 15k+ sl it usually never goes good maybe a kill but always die because I’m all alone when everybody else is dead do you think you have any way to maybe live trough a match?

how do you do the key binds for the propeller pitch and other stuff ETC as it needs to be realistic controls which are really hard to fly what do i do?

You go to realistic, set controlls for MEC (manual engine controll) and go back to those simple controlls (idk what its called), you will have mec keybinded and working
